Topics we will cover on this episode of KSL's Inside Sources include:
In less than 24 hours since they became available, tickets for the Salt Lake Temple open house have surpassed one million! The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced this massive development just this morning. A lot of people have taken to social media to say they couldn't get tickets, but don't worry; the Church says additional tickets will be released in batches. So stay tuned and stay in line!
Gallup polling just put out a new report this morning with this title: "Record-high 89% in U.S. say government corruption widespread." Nearly 90% -- spread across all political ideologies -- think that corruption is at the highest it's ever been! Is anyone truly surprised? Greg and Holly say their biggest shock was how it went from less than 60% in 2006 to roughly 30% higher in only 20 years.
Congress may pick up where the Supreme Court left off with birthright citizenship. The high court gave a kind of mixed bag on the issue in the spring, but upheld the fact that the President could not redefine a constitutional amendment with an executive order. But with the House back in session right now, they're looking into ways to restrict birthright citizenship. In a hearing on Capitol Hill, the House Oversight Committee is looking at so-called birth tourism.
Remember Lori Vallow Daybell? Her murder case was all the news in 2024, and she was convicted of killing her two children, JJ Vallow and Tylee Ryan. She was also found guilty of conspiring to murder her husband's first wife. Well now, the Idaho Supreme Court has set a date for her appeal: November 2nd. There have been a lot of questions about this impending appeal, so KSL Legal Analyst Greg Skordas breaks down the appeal and the process for our listeners.
It's World Coconut Day, prompting us to propose a big change: we think it should no longer be "the world is your oyster," but become "the world is your coconut" instead. Coconuts are pretty divisive, but they have some really cool history and uses in things like healthcare and gardening. The hosts walk through some of the big things and read listener comments describing how they feel about coconuts.
After years of waiting for plans -- and after Salt Lake City denied original plans -- Intermountain Health is announcing new plans for a massive hospital in downtown Salt Lake City. This major complex will take the site of the former Sears store, which has become home to a lake and lots of birds since the building was demolished. In this segment, we hear from leaders with Intermountain Health, officials at LDS Hospital, and SLC Mayor Erin Mendenhall.
Flooding in the Grand Canyon and Nepal, hurricanes hitting California and the Gulf Coast, and fires around the West -- Mother Nature has sure ramped up her anger. With so many people travelling around the country and the world, there's a good chance you might find yourself in a weird situation with a natural disaster… all while you try to rest and relax on vacation. September is Disaster Awareness Month, so Greg and Holly take a few minutes to talk about emergency preparedness while on vacation. They're joined by KSL Meteorologist Matt Johnson with more on the storms and Benjamin Donner, executive director of the American Red Cross Central and Southern Utah chapter, with more on how to best be prepared.
Weddings are so expensive. They might be a little cheaper here in Utah since a lot of young people get married in temples for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. But that doesn't mean reception venues are any cheaper. Increasingly, more and more people are opting for a weekday wedding as an option to save some major money. Holly's own son is doing this later this month! The hosts chat about this growing trend and ask listeners to chime in with their own thoughts on weekday weddings.
