Director Johan Renck joins Kyle Meredith to talk about Spaceman, the new film starring Adam Sandler and Carey Mulligan that follows an astronaut on a solitary research mission who encounters a mysterious, benevolent spider creature (just don't tell Consequence Senior Entertainment Editor Liz Shannon Miller). Listen to the new episode now, and make sure to follow KMW and write a review to show your love!
Renck talks about how directing Sandler in a non-comedic role allowed the two to get to a particularly vulnerable place. They attempted to tap into a zeitgeist of loneliness, a vibe that's only reinforced by the script’s reflection of vanity and narcissism. The filmmaker also discusses his work directing David Bowie's music videos, and whether that late icon would have enjoyed Spaceman.

5 Seconds of Summer's Luke Hemmings joins Kyle Meredith to talk about his new single, “Shakes." The popstar tells us why it was time to do another solo set, how his writing changes when not with the band, continuing to work with producer Sammy White, and how being in his late 20s with a sense of loneliness drives many of the new songs he’s writing.
In fact, Hemmings says that he’s tapped into the melancholy sounds of Damon Albarn, LCD Soundsystem, and Cocteau Twins for inspiration. The Australian singer also discusses 5SOS’s most recent tour and bringing out the giant dice that dictates which deep track they would play, as well as the group’s plans to reconvene later in the year to start working on their next album.

Nick Robinson and Juan Carlos Fresnadillo join Kyle Meredith to talk about the new Millie Bobby Brown-fronted Netflix film, Damsel. Listen to the new episode above, or wherever you get your podcasts.
The film tells the story of a dutiful damsel (Brown) who agrees to marry a handsome prince (Robinson), only to find that the royal family has actually recruited her as a sacrifice to repay an ancient debt. Fresnadillo, the film's director, talks of flipping traditional fairytale storytelling upside down, working with the actors, and pulling off nearly half-hour-long shots of Brown. He also touches on how getting Lykke Li to cover Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire" elevated the film to a new level.
For his part, Robinson talks about his love for playing darker characters, as they challenge him to go in-depth into their motivations. He also talks of working with legendary actors like Robin Wright and what he learned from being on the set of History of the World Pt. II.

Tom Payne joins Kyle Meredith to talk about his roles in Imaginary, Horizon: An American Saga, The Walking Dead, and more. Listen to the new episode above, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Speaking to the myriad of horror and horror-adjacent roles the actor has tackled, Payne dives into how the process of approaching scary or thrilling material differs from that of other genres. From the upcoming Blumhouse production Imaginary to his tenure on The Walking Dead, the actor has had to dial into his spooky side.
As the focus shifts to his time on The Walking Dead, Payne reveals that he didn't want to become a zombie after his the death of his character. "I did not want to sit in makeup for hours and hours and wear a latex hood," he explains. "The guys and girls who play the walkers, they deserve medals, because they bake in the sun. They're in very uncomfortable positions, and they're wearing all this makeup, and have to get in earlier than us in the morning and leave later than us at night. That's the hardest job on that show."

Joe Keery joins Kyle Meredith to talk about the recent viral success of Djo’s "End of Beginning," which was originally included on their 2022 album Decide. Listen to the new episode above, or wherever you get your podcasts.
The actor/musician looks back on the success of the song on TikTok, how much he's grown in the two years that have passed, and how such reminiscing suits the song's themes. Nodding to the Annie Lennox classic "No More I Love Yous," the song plays with ideas of the past -- so, of course, it only took off once it was in the rearview mirror.
Keery and Meredith also take a detour to chat about his work as an actor, from Marmalade to Fargo to Stranger Things. Of his iconic role in the latter, Keery expresses both gratitude and an excitement to move on to newer (perhaps even stranger) things.

Crowded House’s Neil Finn catches up with Kyle Meredith to talk about the band's upcoming album Gravity Stairs, their second release since reuniting in 2020. Listen to the new episode above, or wherever you get your podcasts.
The songwriting legend measures the band's new material against their classic '80s and '90s work, explaining how they maintained a dreamy quality for the latest set. A goal for the new album in particular, though, was to be more lyrically direct, which lead Finn to work with his sons Liam and Elroy, as well as his brother (and former bandmate) Tim Finn.
Such interests can be heard on the first single, "Oh Hi," which has ties to the charity So They Can, an organization focused on helping build schools in countries like Kenya and Tanzania.

The artist explains the concept of the new album, how it connects to the previous installment, and the process of selecting which compositions would make the cut. He also gets into why he feels classical music has been able to endure in the current landscape of music, as well as why he feels it's particularly important that it does.
