“Only 20 years old! These guys are the future (and present) of the sport!” said Kilian Jornet, in 2015, about Yngvild Kaspersen and Remi Bonnet - and man was he right.
Yngvild quit the Norwegian national soccer team to pursue running, with great results. She was 21 years old when she won Zegama, placed 1st in CCC 2023, 5th in WSER 2024 and is ranked #3 female trail runner in the world. Like that wasn’t enough, Yngvild balances all that with being a full-time doctor, working night shifts and going for a 6 hour run afterwards.
Her career has seen some tough periods and setbacks: burn-out in 2018, hip fracture in 2021, disappointing CCC in 2022 and a car crash right before WSER 2024.
We discuss all of that in detail, along with topics like training theory, The Norwegian Method, pressure, being coached by Tom Evans, high-carb fueling, Norway's excellence in sports, perfectionist attitude and work/run balance.
