Nicolae Ceaușescu a fost un important om politic român.

S-a născut în anul 1918 și a murit în anul 1989. A fost secretar general al Partidului Comunist Român între anii 1965 și 1989, aceasta facându-l cel de-al doilea lider comunist român și ultimul lider comunist înainte de înlăturarea regimului comunist.

A fost, de asemenea, șeful de stat al României în perioada 1967-1989.

Ceaușescu s-a înscris în rândurile Partidului Comunist la o vârstă fragedă, făcând parte din Uniunea Tineretului și avansând prin eșaloanele administrative ale lui Gheorghe Gheorghiu-Dej.

După moartea lui Gheorghiu-Dej în 1965, a acces la funcția de secretar general.

La începutul activității sale ca secretar general, era o persoană moderată, însă, de-a lungul timpului, stilul său de conducere a devenit din ce în ce mai represiv și sălbatic.

Unii specialiști consideră că, dintre toate statele membre ale blocului comunist, regimul său s-a asemănat cel mai mult cu cel stalinist.

Ceaușescu nu tolera disidența de niciun fel, iar Poliția sa secretă (Securitatea) a fost una dintre cele mai sângeroase și omniprezente forțe polițiste din toate timpurile.

Deoarece a dorit să plătească datoria României cu orice preț, a dat ordin ca majoritatea bunurilor industriale și agricole să fie exportate, lucru care a dus la deficite extreme ale produselor de primă necesitate și a redus dramatic calitatea vieții în România.

Conducerea sa a fost, de asemenea, marcată de nepotism, naționalism și deteriorarea relațiilor cu alte țări, inclusiv cu Uniunea Sovietică.

Nicolae Ceausescu was a prominent politician from the Romanian Communist Party.

He was born in 1918 and died in 1989 and served as general secretary for the Romanian Communist Party between 1965 and 1989, making him both Romania's second Communist leader and also the last Communist leader before the Communist regime was ousted.

He also served as Romania's head of state between 1967 and 1989.

Ceausescu enlisted in the Communist Party at a very young age, being part of the youth movement and ascending through the echelons of Georghe Gheorghiu-Dej's administration.

After Gheorghiu-Dej died in 1965, he acceded to the party's top rank of general secretary.

When he first became general secretary, he was a moderate, but then over time, his administration became more and more repressive and savage.

Some compared his time in power as bearing the closest resemblance to Stalinism out of all of the member states of the Soviet bloc.

Ceausescu did not tolerate dissent of any kind, and his Secret Police was one of the world's most bloodthirsty and ubiquitous police forces ever.

Because he wanted to pay off Romania's debt at any cost, he ordered most of the nation's industrial and agricultural goods to be exported, which resulted in extreme shortages of basic necessities and dramatically cut Romanians' quality of life.

His administration was also marked by nepotism, nationalism, and deteriorating relations with other countries, including the Soviet Union.

All of these factors resulted in great unrest, and his time in power culminated in collapse as Romanians finally became angry enough to overthrow him following his order to his security forces to fire on people who were protes [...]
