„Lumea în două zile” este un roman scris de George Bălăiță.

Povestea se desfășoară într-un mic oraș românesc și se concentrează pe Antipa, un funcționar care face naveta într-un oraș mare din apropiere.

Într-o noapte, în timp ce stătea și trăncănea cu prietenii, în glumă, a început să parieze la întâmplare când vor muri fiecare dintre aceștia.

Dar la scurt timp după „predicțiile” lui, aceștia au început să moară, exact după „programul” pe care îl anunțase el în glumă.

Pentru că predicțiile lui au început să se adeverească, prietenii lui au început să se întrebe dacă e un șarlatan sau un adevărat clarvăzător.

Nu trece mult timp și o legendă începe să se țeasă în jurul lui Antipa, spunându-se despre el că e înzestrat cu puteri întunecate, drăcești, din străfundurile iadului, pe care el le folosește în bătaie de joc.

Deși în orașul mare reputația sa devine una de om al întunericului și al răului, cea din orașul unde locuiește este una de om docil și la locul lui.

Criticii literari descriu „Lumea în două zile” ca un roman despre ce înseamnă să fii viu și să simți cum se apropie moartea.

Cartea plutește undeva între ironie și patetism, ilustrând o societate închisă, în care oamenii sunt plictisiți și ajung, astfel, să creeze monștri.

Personajele romanului sunt schițate cu grijă, și Bălăiță ne cufundă în nebunie, într-o lume a coincidențelor și a fanteziei.

Criticii spun despre acest roman că estompează linia de demarcație dintre viață și moarte și că glumele lui Antipa despre moartea prietenilor săi sfârșesc prin a fi doar începutul sfârșitului său și, în final, o profeție asupra propriei sale morți.

The World in Two Days is a novel written by George Balaita.

The story is set in a small Romanian town and focuses on Antipa, a bureaucrat who commutes into a nearby big city.

One night while relaxing and bantering with friends, as a joke he arbitrarily wagers on when his friends will die.

But soon after his "predictions," they begin to die, right on time according to the "schedule" he had given facetiously.

Because his predictions start coming true, his friends begin to wonder whether he is a charlatan or a true clairvoyant.

Before long, a legend surrounds Antipa, as he is said to be endowed with dark, evil powers from the pits of hell that he will not take seriously.

Even though in the city his reputation morphs into one of darkness and evil, the reputation he holds in his home town is one of being very docile and harmless.

Literary critics describe The World in Two Days as a book about what it means to be alive and to have death hot on one's heels.

The book hovers somewhere between irony and pathos, illustrating a closed society in which people are bored and thus end up creating monsters.

The novel's characters are sketched carefully, and Balaita delves into madness, the world of coincidences, and fantasy.

Critics say the book blurs the line between life and death, and Antipa's jokes about his friends' deaths end up being only the beginning of his undoing and ultimately a prophecy of his own death.

„Moromeții” este un roman scris de Marin Preda.

Povestea se întinde pe două decenii și ilustrează dezintegarea prelungită, convențională și banală a unei familii de țărani, în aproximativ o mie de pagini, împărțite în două volume.

Familia locuiește în micul sat Siliștea-Gumești.

Atunci când a scris primul volum, Preda se bucura deja de o reputație bună ca nuvelist.

Începutul romanului îl prezintă pe Ilie Moromete, soția sa Catrina și cei trei copii ai lor.

Ilie are, de asemenea, câțiva fii mai mari dintr-o căsătorie anterioară.

După toate aparențele, familia duce o viață normală, deși, desigur, nelipsită de probleme.

În partea întâi a romanului, Preda scrie că în anii dinaintea celui de-al Doilea Război Mondial, oamenii din regiune duceau o viață liniștită, însă, după câteva pagini, această afirmație este negată odată ce familia Moromete începe să se confrunte cu probleme crescânde, cum ar fi datoria care se acumulează rapid din cauza impozitelor pe care nu au posibilitatea de a le plăti.

The Moromete Family is a novel written by Marin Preda.

The story spans two decades and chronicles a conventional, nondescript peasant family's protracted dissolution in approximately one-thousand pages that are organized into two volumes.

The family resides in the small village of Silistea-Gumesti.

Preda wrote Volume One after he had already earned a good repute for himself as a writer of short stories.

The story starts with Ilie Moromete and his wife Catrina and their three children.

Ilie also has some older sons from a previous marriage.

By all appearances, the family lives a normal life, although of course not without problems.

In the opening part of the novel, Preda writes that in the years before World War II, people in the region didn't face many serious conflicts, but within several pages, this statement is negated as the Moromete family starts facing mounting problems, like their rapidly accumulating debt due to land taxes they are unable to pay.

Their debt problem is exacerbated by tumbling crop prices after the Great Depression.

Illie's sons demand that he sell part of the land and give them the money, but he refuses, so they abscond with their stepsisters' dowry and the horses.

Volume Two was published twelve years after the first one, as Preda wrote two other novels between the two volumes of The Moromete Family.

It is clearly distinct from the first volume as only the location of the action is the same.

The structure of the book, its narrative technique, and the writing style used are different from the first volume.

The second volume is focused more on the village, although Illie is in the story.

His wife and the rest of his family deserted him, and he died alone.
