Last weekend I posted a rage bait picture on social media. Posting stuff like this is a fun little exercise that points out how emotionally reactive people are. The image featured a picture of Scarlett Johansson, arguably one of the most attractive women in Hollywood, in a bikini with some circles around a couple of her flaws. The reason this is so triggering is because women who aren't on Johansson's level of attractiveness feel attacked because if someone considers Johansson unattractive, what does that say about them? Men get triggered because we're hard wired to defend women. It's a feature, not a bug. Knowing these things makes for easy emotional engagement on social media, and the hateful response can is anticipated and hilarious!
