Retirement is supposed to be the reward for a life well lived—freedom, travel, hobbies, and time for ourselves. But there’s a part of retirement that often goes unspoken: loneliness.

In this video, I open up about the quiet moments that caught me off guard. Even with a full schedule and plenty of people around, I’ve felt an emptiness I didn’t expect.

And for some, that loneliness comes after a life-changing event—like the loss of a partner through death or divorce. After sharing your days, your stories, your plans with someone, the silence can feel overwhelming. It’s not just about missing their presence; it’s about re-learning how to exist in your world without them. That type of loneliness is deep, and it takes time, patience, and compassion to navigate.

Other times, loneliness is less emotional and more situational—you’re simply bored. After decades of being busy with work, kids, deadlines, or responsibilities, the sudden freedom can leave a strange void. You wake up with time on your hands, but no clear plan or motivation to fill it. Boredom can quietly evolve into disconnection, and it’s often overlooked as a source of loneliness.

Whether you’re newly retired, years into it, or still thinking about what life will look like after work, this conversation matters. Loneliness in retirement can sneak up on anyone—especially after we lose daily routines, structured social connections, or a strong sense of purpose. And while it can feel isolating, you’re not alone in feeling this way.

You might not realize it, but you are a living, breathing source of value. You’ve lived with yourself for years, so it’s easy to overlook the incredible experiences and wisdom you possess.
And sure, you may be thinking about taking it easy, or finally enjoying hobbies you may not had time for before, but there’s something just as important—your legacy!

Even a small segment of your life could be turned into a book—or your life and experiences could become a whole series.
The books tone can be as unique as you are. Make it comedy drama, adventure, romance, self-help. Your choice!

In this video we share 6 reasons to write a book:

1. Getting Older We’re all getting older, and eventually, the clock will run out. Writing a book is a way to leave behind your wisdom and knowledge in a way that’s as authentic as you are.
2.  Let Your Family Get to Know You in New Ways: Share your story, journey, and reflections, allowing your family to see a side of you they never had before.
3. Pass Down Your Expertise Share the valuable lessons you’ve learned throughout your career and life with the next generation. 
4. Therapeutic Benefits: Writing can be a form of therapy, helping you process your experiences and emotions, and offering a place to come out of hiding. 
5. A Creative Outlet: Writing a book allows you to express yourself creatively, whether it’s through drama, comedy, action, or romance—totally up to you.
6. Leave a Lasting Legacy A book is a unique way to leave behind your wisdom and knowledge, reflecting who you truly are, ensuring your memory lives on.
