Today I had the chance to sit down with Oiyan Poon, who is currently a faculty member at Loyola University Chicago. This is the first part of a conversation we had almost a year ago. When I went to put the episode together, my computer ate half of it when I tried to split it between two episodes. So it took some time to be able to sit down with Oiyan again, but I was finally able to do it recently, so now you can hear it this week and next week. This week we talked about growing up in New England, family, sports, school, dropping out of grad school, deciding to pursue a PhD, being political, culture shock, dissertations, and a lot more! This week’s conversation covers up to when Oiyan was getting ready to move to Chicago, and next week we will cover from Chicago to now, and some of the things that she tries to do to find balance and regain energy.
