In an astonishing episode of the popular podcast "Murder In the Morning" hosted by Tony Brueski and Stacy Cole, they dissect the chilling and delusional claims of Lori Vallow Daybell, who is currently under trial for the murder of her children. Daybell asserts her innocence, alleging she communicates with her deceased children and possesses knowledge of the afterlife.

 

In this episode, Daybell's perplexing court statements were replayed, in which she quoted the New Testament to defend her actions and call into question the judgment passed on her by others. As she declared, "Jesus knows me and Jesus understands me. I mourn with all of you who mourn my children, and to me, Jesus Christ knows the truth of what happened here."

 

Daybell further explained that she believes no murders occurred, attributing the deaths in her life to accidents, suicides, and medication side effects. An incredulous Brueski responded to her claims, "That's not remotely real." He and Cole struggled to comprehend Daybell's version of events, which they described as "delusional."

 

Her claims go beyond merely disputing the cause of death. Daybell narrates a vivid experience of having died and visited heaven during labor in 2002, where she met her deceased sister, Stacy. This incident, she alleges, gave her access to the spirit world, allowing her to communicate with her dead children and others.

 

"She thinks all this shit's real," remarked Cole, expressing disbelief at Daybell's claims of ongoing contact with deceased individuals. According to Daybell, these spirits include her children Tylee Ashland and Joshua Jackson, her friend Tammy Debell – the ex-wife of her husband who was also mysteriously murdered – and other relatives.

 

"She thinks that she launched these people into a better life, that she's somehow this martyr that she did something great for people that they weren't able to do for themselves," Cole expressed, summarizing Daybell's disturbing perspective. The hosts questioned the mental health of Daybell, referring to her diagnosis of "hyper religiosity with narcissistic features."

 

Daybell's narrative included graphic descriptions of her daughter, Tylee's, suffering, stating that she had been sexually abused and suffered from a painful health condition. She presented herself as a loving, protective mother despite the accusations against her for murdering her children.

 

Most shockingly, she claimed her children's spirits visited her after their deaths, assuring her that she hadn't done anything wrong. According to Daybell, Tylee commanded her to stop worrying while Joshua Jackson put his arm around her, expressing his love.

 

The podcast hosts found these claims deeply disturbing and frightening. Cole expressed concern about Daybell's mental state and the risk she poses to other inmates, deeming her unfit for normal prison conditions. "Even prisoners should not be upset, subjected [to her]," Cole stated.

 

The hosts concluded that despite Daybell's firm belief in her divine path, her destination might be quite different from the heaven she so vividly described. Brueski concluded, "This whole thing is just frightening and it terrifies me. I don't want her by any other inmates because she is not mentally sound. There's something so terribly wrong with how she thinks."
