Liz Murray has an incredible well-publicized story, which highlights her journey from homeless high school student to Harvard graduate. Liz’s story was featured on the Oprah Winfrey Show, made into a Lifetime Television film, and chronicled in her memoir, Breaking Night: My Journey from Homeless to Harvard. She was born to loving but drug-addicted parents in the Bronx. At age 15, Liz found herself on the streets when her family finally unraveled. She learned to scrape by, foraging for food and riding subways all night to have a warm place to sleep.

When Liz's mother died of AIDS, she decided to take control of her own destiny and go back to high school, often completing her assignments in the hallways and subway stations where she slept. Liz squeezed four years of high school into two, while homeless; won a New York Times scholarship; and made it into the Ivy League halls of Harvard.

In this episode, Liz talks to Bobbi about her journey, and how she is trying to make the world a better place by mentoring at risk youth through the foundation she co-founded called the Arthur Project. It's there she helps underserved children with a very hands on approach.
