Three down, three to go on the Colorado Avalanche six game homestand.

The Avs found a way to get past the Pittsburgh Penguins, 4-1, with the help of a timely Casey Mittelstad goal, two more from Artturi Lehkonen and two empty netters. Add in some stellar goaltending by Scott Wedgewood and it's two points in the standings.

Was it their most polished game? Far from it. But maybe the Avalanche are getting back to their finding ways to win ways.

Colorado Avalanche GM Chris MacFarland meet the media Monday afternoon to discuss a series of topics. The main ones being the newly acquired Avs in the trade with the New York Rangers. MacFarland discussed how head coach Jared Bednar plans to utilize Ryan Lindgren on the defensive side and Jimmy Vesey on the offensive side.

He also mentioned how Gabriel Landeskog will likely miss the regular season again. His third consecutive season he will miss. This no doubt brings up the topic yet again, should he call it a career. We discuss.

The Colorado Avalanche got a jump start on the trade deadline season and made a deal with the New York Rangers for defenseman Ryan Lindgren and forward Jimmy Vesey. Lindgren is the big name in the deal, and his drop in production has been well discussed. But will a change of scenery be just what he needs to get back to his production from a few years ago? The Avalanche think so.

Casey Mittelstadt hasn't had the best season in his first full year with the Colorado Avalanche. But does Val Nichushkin returning, and Jonathan Drouin  back as well finally give Mittelstadt a solid line he can play with day in and day out? Was Nuke the missing piece?

We also discuss the rumblings about former Avalanche star Mikko Rantanen and the talk about the Carolina Hurricanes trading him before the trade deadline if they cannot come to an agreement on an extension. Would Carolina go the Avalanche route and move him or ride it out and see what happens?

The Colorado Avalanche went 21 games missing what Val Nichushkin brings and in one game you could see how much it was missed. Nichushkin was one of only three forwards not to register a point, but he was everywhere and showed his importance to helping this team win.

Nathan MacKinnon had a three point night, bringing his season total up to 90, which leads the league.

In a season where you never know what Avalanche team will show up, this is the one you hope does game after game.

The Colorado Avalanche headed into the 4 Nations break feeling pretty darn good. They have come out of it feeling pretty much the opposite.

The Avs lost both games of the weekend back to back, both division rivals in the Nashville Predators and St. Louis Blues and now must go home for a six game home stand and show what this team is made of.
