Once upon a time, in a parallel universe where college sports took unexpected turns, a seismic shift was about to rock the world of collegiate athletics. In a surprising turn of events, the University of North Carolina (UNC), North Carolina State University (NC State), Florida State University, the University of Miami, the University of Louisville, Duke University, and several other prominent ACC schools were rumored to be considering a move to the Big 12 Conference.

It all began when the Big 12 Conference found itself facing numerous challenges. Financial disparities, declining viewership, and a growing sense of stagnation plagued the conference. Seeking a revitalization, the Big 12's commissioner, let's call him Commissioner Smith, set out on a mission to bolster the conference's status and ensure its long-term sustainability.

Commissioner Smith reached out to the leadership of various ACC schools, sensing an opportunity for a seismic realignment. Intrigued by the potential benefits, the ACC schools cautiously entertained the idea. Secret meetings were held in undisclosed locations, where university presidents, athletic directors, and influential boosters gathered to discuss the possibilities.

Bob Huggins, the head coach of the West Virginia Mountaineers, has been suspended for the first three games of the 2023-24 season, and his salary has been reduced by $1 million annually. Huggins has also been ordered to undergo sensitivity training after he used an anti-gay slur during an appearance on a Cincinnati radio station, jeopardizing his job. The incident occurred after longtime Cincinnati radio host Bill Cunningham and former Huggins assistant coach Steve Moeller got Huggins on the phone. Cunningham asked Huggins about Xavier University, his rival when he was the head coach at Cincinnati from 1989-2005. Huggins responded by describing Xavier fans throwing “rubber penises on the floor” during a Crosstown Shootout game against Cincinnati. Cunningham then asked if that happened on “transgender night?” to which Huggins responded with the offensive language.

Huggins has since released an apology statement admitting to using “a completely insensitive and abhorrent phrase” and described himself as “ashamed and embarrassed and heartbroken.” West Virginia’s athletic department released a statement of its own describing Huggins’ remarks as “insensitive” and “offensive” and saying the matter was “under review.” In a joint statement, West Virginia president Gordon Gee and athletic director Wren Baker made it clear to Huggins "that any incidents of similar derogatory and offensive language will result in immediate termination."

Baylor and Brigham Young University (BYU) should be rivals in sports due to their shared history, competitive spirit, and geographic proximity. The two universities have a lot in common and would make great rivals on the field or court.

Both Baylor and BYU are private Christian universities that were founded in the 19th century. They have a strong commitment to their religious values and academic excellence. In addition, both universities have successful athletic programs and a passion for sports. Baylor and BYU have competed against each other in various sports over the years, including football, basketball, and volleyball. However, they have never had an official rivalry.

A rivalry between Baylor and BYU would be beneficial for both universities. It would generate excitement and interest in their sports programs and attract more fans to their games. A rivalry would also create a sense of competition and motivation for the athletes, coaches, and fans. Additionally, a rivalry would enhance the reputation of both universities and increase their national visibility.

No. 20 ranked Baylor Softball completed a triumphant three-game series sweep of No. 5 ranked Texas on Sunday afternoon at Getterman Stadium with a 2-1 walk-off victory. This win marks the sixth time this season that the Bears have emerged victorious over a top-5 team, three of which were achieved at home. Baylor's overall record now stands at 39-15 this season, with an 8-10 conference play record.

The game's defining moment came in the bottom of the seventh inning when Zadie LaValley capitalized on an error to reach base and secure the game-winning runs for the Bears. This was the third time this season that Baylor had won a game by walking off its opponent.

The Bears' defense played an exceptional game, with pitcher RyLee Crandall producing a standout performance. Crandall completed the entire game, throwing six scoreless frames, which began with a three-up, three-down top of the first inning.

Josie Bower secured Baylor's first hit of the game in the bottom of the second inning, recording an infield single to second base. However, the Bears failed to capitalize on this opportunity to score a run. Texas threatened in the top of the third inning, but LaValley caught a runner off-guard at second base, picking her off to end the inning.
