Locked On Bears - Daily Podcast On The Chicago Bears

Justin Fields needs to use this training camp to improve some of his weaknesses from last season and accelerate his development for 2023.

The preseason will also give us a good chance to evaluate how much we trust backup quarterback P.J. Walker, plus a big battle for the No. 3 quarterback spot between Nathan Peterman and Tyson Bagent.

Cole Kmet is a more important part of the Chicago Bears offense than many people might think, but he's not the type of tight end that typically get paid the big bucks.

That complicates the current long-term contract negotiations, especially with a productive backup next to him in Robert Tonyan, who could be key to opening up Luke Getsy's offense for Justin Fields.

The Chicago Bears running back job is Khalil Herbert's to lose, but he has formidable competition in free agent D'Onta Foreman and maybe the rookie Roschon Johnson.

The backfield may end up as a committee effort, but each player has to carve out their role at training camp and throughout the preseason. Is there any room for Travis Homer or Trestan Ebner in the rotation?

How Chase Claypool does at Chicago Bears training camp will set the foundation for how he performs in the regular season.

He needs every practice rep he can get to learn the offense and get on the same page as Justin Fields, especially with two young receivers right behind him on the depth chart.

This is as questionable of a Green Bay Packers team as the Chicago Bears have faced in a long time, putting Justin Fields in a strong position to try and surpass his NFC North rival this season.

Peter Bukowski from Locked on Packers joins the show to compare and contrast the two teams and how they stack up for 2023.

The Chicago Bears have the great luxury of having their starting 5 offensive linemen all set before training camp, but they don't have a lot of experience behind them on the bench.

Training camp will be the most important offseason stretch for the young offensive linemen, including Braxton Jones and Darnell Wright, to develop and grow once the pads come on. Their progress will be critical for Justin Fields' success in 2023.

Defensive line is the Chicago Bears biggest weakness, and the team needs the young group to accelerate their development at training camp.

The defensive end rotation is a wide open battle, with the possibility of a veteran free agent still being added, while defensive tackle has three prominent rookies trying to get up to speed.

The Chicago Bears revamped almost their entire linebacker position this offseason, and they're counting on Tremaine Edmunds and T.J. Edwards to be upgrades for Matt Eberflus' defense.

Ryan Poles also brought in more competition for Jack Sanborn, who is somehow the linebacker on the roster with the most experience in this Bears defense.

The Chicago Bears are young and relatively inexperienced at the cornerback position. They could be solid and exciting, or they could make mistakes and struggle.

Our training camp previews continue with a look at expectations for Kyler Gordon and Tyrique Stevenson, plus a lot at stake for Jaylon Johnson in a contract year, and a strong competition for the backup jobs.

2023 will be an important year for the development of Jaquan Brisker. It should also give us a clearer picture of the long-term future of the Chicago Bears safety position.

Eddie Jackson is still the veteran leader of this secondary, but for how much longer? Plus, the training camp battles for the backup safety spots are wide open with plenty of young talent on the roster.
