University of Georgia defensive tackle Jalen Carter, who was booked and released Wednesday night on reckless driving and racing charges, returned to Indianapolis on Thursday to finish his interviews, measurements and other activities at the 2023 NFL Scouting Combine, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported, per a source.
Carter did not take the field to work out for NFL scouts on Thursday, but he was seen on the sidelines in support of the defensive lineman showcasing themselves at Lucas Oil Stadium.
One of the top prospects in the 2023 NFL Draft, Carter was the subject of arrest warrants in Athens, Georgia, as a result of an ongoing investigation into a fatal crash on Jan. 15, the Athens-Clarke County Police Department announced on Wednesday.
Carter, 21, was booked at 11:33 p.m. ET and released at 11:49 p.m. Wednesday night after paying a $4,000 bond for the two misdemeanor charges.
Carter released a statement on Wednesday before turning himself in, saying that he intended to return to Athens "to answer the misdemeanor charges against me and to make certain that the complete and accurate truth is presented."
"This morning I received a telephone call from the Athens Georgia Police Department informing me that two misdemeanor warrants have been issued against me for reckless driving and racing," Carter said. "Numerous media reports also have circulated this morning concerning the tragic events of Jan. 15, 2023."
The news of the arrest warrants secured for Carter came hours after a report published by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Wednesday that Carter was present at the scene of the crash, left the scene before officers arrived and then gave "shifting accounts of the wreck as an Athens police officer questioned him about whether he had been racing the car that crashed."
Carter, who declared for the NFL draft on Jan. 10, was not present for his scheduled news conference on Wednesday morning at the 2023 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. NFL senior vice president of football and international communications Michael Signora told media assembled at Carter's assigned podium that Carter would not be speaking at the event on Wednesday.

The Cleveland Browns are in the process of exploring locations for a potential new stadium with their lease at FirstEnergy Stadium set to expire at the end of 2028. As one might expect, Browns fans across social media were quick to react to the news of a potential new stadium, which according to Prendergast, could include either a dome or a retractable roof. "The Haslams reportedly want a year-round stadium with either a permanent dome or retractable roof to attract to Cleveland more non-football related events such as bigger concerts and shows, larger and annual Rock Hall induction ceremonies, college sporting events including basketball tournament games and more," Prendergast wrote. "Unfortunately, FirstEnergy Stadium is used only about 10-12 times per year, underutilizing 20 acres of prime lakefront land." As for the locations the Browns are reportedly exploring, Prendergast specifically mentions two: where the Main Post Office is currently located at 2400 Orange Ave., southeast of downtown, and just east of downtown’s central business district, north of St. Clair Avenue -- potentially between East 13th and East 17th streets. While most fans on social media appear to favor keeping the team's stadium on the lakefront with the second location, some have expressed concern over how the stadium would be paid for, which Prendergast reports would include at least some level of public funding. "One thing is certain some public funding will be involved whether the Browns play in a renovated or replaced stadium. Only three NFL facilities – Gillette Stadium in New England, MetLife Stadium in New Jersey/New York City and SoFi Stadium in Greater Los Angeles – were built without any public funding, according to a recent article in The Buffalo News," he writes.
Meanwhile the city of Cleveland continues to make repairs at FirstEnergy Stadium. The latest, approved by city council one week ago, total $10 million and includes replacing crumbling, rusted ramps, deteriorated concrete elsewhere in the stadium, plus new lighting, heating and doors. About $8 million will be paid by the countywide sin tax and most of the rest will come from the city’s general fund. The city is responsible for emergency repairs per the lease with the Browns. Carrying out the work will be construction managers M. A. Mortenson Company of Minneapolis and Independence Construction of the Cleveland suburb of Independence, a third source said. Mortenson has completed more than 160 development and construction projects in 25 states in the past decade alone. However, Ohio has not been one of the states in which they’ve built anything. That changed in April when the Cleveland Guardians and the Gateway Economic Development Corporation of Greater Cleveland hired Mortenson as their construction manager at risk for the $435 million renovation of Progressive Field. Mortenson is partnering with Independence on updating the Guardians’ ballpark as well, with work starting after the baseball season ends this fall.

Looking for the latest Browns news? You've come to the right place! In this video, we'll discuss the team's potential free agent targets and discuss their chances of signing Bobby Wagner. The Cleveland Browns are poised to make a run at the NFL's best linebacker in free agency. With rumors swirling and teams showing interest, it's sure to be an exciting offseason for the Browns! Stay tuned to this channel for all the latest Browns news and rumors! The Cleveland Browns are looking to win now and the best linebacker in football just hit the free agent market.
Cleveland had a rough run in 2022, though the team’s first-year issues weren’t much of a surprise. The Browns went all in on quarterback Deshaun Watson last offseason and are poised to be competitive in the AFC North Division if the quarterback can return to his pre-suspension form. Several units on the roster are stacked with Pro-Bowl level talent, though the linebacker group, which was plagued by injury last year, is in desperate need of an injection of talent. On Thursday, February 23, perennial All-Pro linebacker Bobby Wagner broke ties with the Los Angeles Rams and will be looking for a new home when the NFL’s free agency period opens on March 15.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter broke the news on Thursday afternoon. Thea The Los Angeles Rams and top linebacker Bobby Wagner agreed to mutually part ways making Wagner a free agent. Wagner’s desire to win, which Schefter noted, could be an issue for the Browns should the team decide to court him. However, the franchise’s commitment to playing for the present is clear based on the moves it made last offseason.

Kevin Stefanski boasts a 26-24 record over 3 seasons as the Cleveland Browns‘ head coach. That actually compares favorably to how a lot of Hall of Fame-caliber coaches started their NFL careers. But Stefanski is trending in reverse, starting out with an 11-5 campaign and coming off a 7-10 effort in 2022. And that has more than a few folks wondering if Stefanski should be on the hot seat in 2023. This is despite some solid offensive rankings that don’t placate fans who question his play-calling and player usage. And hiring a defensive coordinator with head coaching experience isn’t going to lessen any pressure Stefanski feels. It’s All About The Quarterback During the Christmas weekend broadcasts, NBC ran a graphic of great coaches’ records without their most famous quarterback. Bill Belichick, for example, has a losing record without Tom Brady. And that trend was followed by more Hall of Fame coaches than not across recent history.
As underwhelming as Watson was in December, Stefanski deserves a normal season with Cleveland’s franchise quarterback. Anyone who can win playoff games with an inconsistent Mayfield and turn Brissett into a top-10-rated passer does.Of course, failing with Watson at the helm will only accelerate Stefanski’s departure from the Browns. It might even spell the end of the untouchable Paul DePodesta and his stability-wins-championships mantra. Fans’ Angst Proves Things Are Better With Stefanski Brissett’s statistically-impressive performance in 2022 might earn him a starting job somewhere else next season.

Browns rookie Alex Wright has learned a lot from two of his pass rushing idols this year in teammates Myles Garrett and Jadeveon Clowney. That remains true even now, as Clowney appears to be on his way out in Cleveland. The rookie has played a significant number of snaps for Cleveland from the jump. He’s played 494 total defensive snaps -- ironically, exactly the same number as Clowney -- and has appeared in all 16 games for the Browns. He’s proved to be an effective weapon on the line when it comes to using his 6-foot-5 frame to bat down balls, something he never got a chance to do in college. He’s got a team-high five this season, which also ties him for third-most among all NFL edge rushers. That’s been the highlight of his game, while rushing opposing quarterbacks has been a tough adjustment compared to the college level. He has no sacks this year, and only 10 pressures -- all QB hurries. Understandably, improving in that aspect of his game is the No. 1 task on his offseason checklist.
Perrion Winfrey quietly may have shown glimpses of what he can be in the future for the Cleveland Browns during his rookie year. Now that the season is over, All-Rookie teams are here. Winfrey was named first-team defense on the All-Rookie team put together by SportsInfoSolutions. Winfrey missed four games as a rookie and had a rough acclimation period at times at becoming a professional. Playing in 41 percent of the defensive snaps, Winfrey made 22 tackles, one tackle for a loss, and a half sack. The Browns have a lot of questions at defensive tackle with not a lot of answers. If Winfrey can build off of year one, perhaps it could bode well for both sides.

Cleveland Browns news and rumors today are buzzing after Greg Newsome’s Tweet in which he closed the door on planning in the slot, nickel position again in 2023 after a Browns fan asked him on Twitter. Could we see a Greg Newsome trade as a result? The Browns roster features a lot of depth at cornerback with Denzel Ward and Martin Emerson. So, Browns trade rumors are back as a result this Thursday. Browns NFL Draft rumors are starting to pick up with the 2023 NFL Draft less than 50 days away. Might Browns GM Andrew Berry look to trade one of his 2nd round picks away and acquire a proven player like DeForest Buckner or Jerry Jeudy? Locked On Browns Podcast hosts Garrett Bush and Jeff Lloyd Peterson discuss the viability of trading the former 1st round pick to Denver for Jerry Jeudy.
After trading for Seattle Seahawks all-time-great quarterback Russell Wilson in the offseason, the Denver Broncos were poised for a big year. After 18 weeks the Broncos finished with a 5-12 record and fired head coach Nathaniel Hackett after his first year in Denver. Wilson had the worst season of his career, finishing with 16 touchdown passes and 11 interceptions. Denver finished last in the NFL in points per game (16.9), but finished in the top half in points allowed per game (21.1). Amid all the offensive blunders, wide receiver Jerry Jeudy had the best season of his young three-year career. The 2020 15th overall pick finished the season with 67 receptions for 972 yards and six touchdowns (all career highs). Jeudy was arguably the best Crimson Tide product in weeks 14 and 18. There are several teams that could use a new wide receiver, but one that sticks out is the Baltimore Ravens.
Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson has rejected some of the highest offers in league history from Baltimore, but an up-and-coming receiver might be all he needs to accept one.Baltimore's receiving talent has been subpar (besides All-Pro tight end Mark Andrews) since Jackson took over under center. Jeudy's numbers this season have been better than nearly every wide receiver in Baltimore the past few years. Jackson is known to be one of, if not the best scramblers of all time. The addition of a route-running technician like Jeudy could make him an even more elite passer and give him his second NFL MVP trophy.

In this video, we're going to take a look at what surprising spot the Browns landed in ESPN's 2023 NFL Power Rankings! After a tough season in which they missed the playoffs, the Browns managed to fall to 19th in the rankings in ESPN's 2023 NFL Power Rankings. This surprising spot puts them below the Steelers, Ravens, and Bengals in the AFC North. So what does this mean for the Browns? We'll discuss all of the news and rumors surrounding the team in this update video of the Locked on Browns Podcast! Keep an eye out for more videos about the Browns in the coming weeks! The dust from the 2022 NFL season has not settled yet following last night’s Super Bowl but many are ready to turn the page to the 2023 NFL season. Two head coaches need to be hired, a bunch of other coaches need to move around the league and then we get to player movement. Needless to say, where teams are the day after the last Super Bowl and where they are at the start of the following season are generally quite different. That doesn’t mean it isn’t interesting to at least discuss next year at this point but it is important to note.
ESPN just completed their very early 2023 power rankings. In many ways, their power rankings are very similar to the final records of last season with some tweaks. The Cleveland Browns are ranked 19th with the obvious key being around QB Deshaun Watson. Only one team that finished 2022 with more than the Browns seven victories is ranked below them, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers who just lost Tom Brady. Cleveland is also the highest-ranked team that won seven or fewer games last year. The AFC North is also interesting to look at with the Pittsburgh Steelers up at #14, the Baltimore Ravens at #11 (with lots of questions about Lamar Jackson) and the Cincinnati Bengals 4th in the league. Thankfully for the Browns, a lot will change between now and the start of the season and, which is always true, power rankings do not mean a lot. It will be interesting to compare these rankings to those following free agency and the draft to see how the team’s moves impact how they are seen by some in the national media.
