Locked On Bruins - Daily Podcast On The Boston Bruins

The Linus Ullmark trade reports continue to swirl, with the Ottawa Senators perhaps being the most logical landing spot. In fact, there's reports out of Ottawa that the Senators have intensified their pursuit of the Boston Bruins goaltender after Jacob Markstrom was traded to the New Jersey Devils on Wednesday.

Locked on Boston Bruins host Ian McLaren breaks down the report, why it makes sense, and the aggressive package Don Sweeney might be requesting.  The key might be whether Ullmark is willing to move to Ottawa.

Plus, Pierre-Luc Dubois was traded to the Washington Capitals for Darcy Kuemper, giving us a clue as to what a nixed Ullmark deal with the Los Angeles Kings may have looked like.

And is Jake DeBrusk going to move to Canada? The Calgary Flames make sense, but the Toronto Maple Leafs?

Finally, how the Bruins could reunite some old Flames pals in free agency.

Jacob Markstrom was traded by the Calgary Flames to the New Jersey Devils on Wednesday, a domino that will have a direct impact on the National Hockey League trade market and specifically the Boston Bruins and Linus Ullmark.

The return? The Devils 2025 1st Round Pick (top 10 protected) and defenseman Kevin Bahl. The Flames also retained some salary, bumping Markstrom's cap hit to $4.125M.

This sets the market for a potential Linus Ullmark trade, with the field narrowed down to the Ottawa Senators, Buffalo Sabres, Los Angeles Kings and perhaps some unknowns.

Locked on Boston Bruins host breaks down this deal with the Devils and what it means for the Bruins and Ullmark.

With the Stanley Cup potentially awarded tonight - and definitely within the next week - Locked on Boston Bruins host Ian McLaren is asking whether being a hockey fan is only all about wining the greatest trophy in sports.

Congratulations to the Boston Celtics for winning another NBA title, by the way.

Plus, a look at the 2024 preseason schedule, and an update on soon to be former Bruins forward Oskar Steen.

There's no shortage of options for the Boston Bruins when it comes to improving the roster this offseason.

Locked on Boston Bruins host Ian McLaren discusses the latest the pursuit of center Elias Lindholm, who reportedly turned down a 7-year, $50M offer from the Vancouver Canucks.

Plus, should the Bruins chat with the Columbus Blue Jackets about Patrik Laine as those two parties work out an exit strategy?

And would it be worth sending Linus Ullmark to a division rival if it means acquiring either the 7th overall pick or Jacob Chychrun?

It may not seem improbable, but there's a path to Steven Stamkos signing with the Boston Bruins on July 1.

The Tampa Bay Lightning captain can become an unrestricted free agent, and the club doesn't have the cap space to do so at the moment. Enter Don Sweeney, who has the money and a need to add a scoring center.

Locked on Boston Bruins host Ian McLaren breaks down why Stamkos at 3 or 4 years for $7-million is better than signing Elias Lindholm to a longer term, bigger money deal.

It appears likely the Boston Bruins will trade goaltender Linus Ullmark this summer, but what can we actually expect in return? Recent history suggests draft picks, which the Bruins can definitely use.

Locked on Boston Bruins host Ian McLaren looks at recent goalie trades around the National Hockey League and what the acquiring teams had to cough up, projecting a similar return for the Bruins.

While they may not get a top line center or scoring winger, they can certainly use that $5M in freed up cap space.

Also, GM Don Sweeney finished fifth in GM of the Year voting. Let's discuss why.

A couple hockey news drops over the weekend will directly impact the Boston Bruins.

The cap ceiling is set at $88M, giving the Bruins plenty of cash to spend this summer. Plus, Boston will co-host the 4 Nations Cup in February, although the Bruins' biggest star won't be participating.

Plus, some key dates to circle on the calendar this offseason.

The Boston Bruins will be active this offseason, that much we know. To what extent is yet to be determined, but Fluto Shinzawa of the The Athletic recently outlined his dream summer for the club, and Locked on Boston Bruins host Ian McLaren is offering some thoughts on:

• A potential Linus Ullmark trade
• Jeremy Swayman and Brad Marchand contract extensions
• Jake DeBrusk and Tyler Bertuzzi coming back
• Elias Lindholm signing
• Improvements from some young players

With the Stanley Cup Final set to begin Saturday, Locked on Boston Bruins host Ian McLaren is debating who to root for. Is there a case to be made for the Florida Panthers? What about the Edmonton Oilers?

Maybe the decision is based on geography or Conference. Maybe you're rooting for former Bruins on the Panthers staff - Gregory Campbell and Shawn Thornton. Or maybe you want Leon Draisaitl to finish business in Edmonton so he can move on next summer.

After that, let's ask when the Bruins might next be in the Final, and what it will take to get there.
