Locked On Bruins - Daily Podcast On The Boston Bruins

After making a splash in free agency by signing Elias Lindholm and Nikita Zadorov, all attention turns to the Boston Bruins signing goaltender Jeremy Swayman.

They have the cap space, so what's the hold up? Neither party wants to go to arbitration, so it seems like a matter of time before the deal gets done, but every day that passes raises the anxiety a little bit.

Other than that, is Boston done looking at free agent? The Bruins did not sign a prominent winger, hoping instead that Max Jones can provide value and someone internally can step up.

Plus, a look at some notable games on the 2024-25  Bruins schedule.

The Boston Bruins landed the two free agents they were most keen on, signing center Elias Lindholm to a 7 year deal worth $7.75 million annually along with defenseman Nikita Zadorov to a 5 year contract worth $6 million annually.

Locked on Boston Bruins host Ian McLaren discusses why General Manager Don Sweeney targeted these two players specifically, and why they're both being compared to (but don't want to be compared to) Patrice Bergeron and Zdeno Chara.

The length and value of the deals may be higher than we want, and these players are both nearing 30, but they should make the team better in the near term.

Plus, the Bruins are hoping to get value out of 2016 first round picks Max Jones and Riley Tufte.

Later this week we'll touch on Jeremy Swayman, the now former Bruins who signed elsewhere, and what Boston still needs to fill out the roster.

It's a bonus episode of Locked on Boston Bruins as host Ian McLaren recaps what the Boston Bruins achieved at the NHL Entry Draft and previews Monday's free agent frenzy.

With the 25th overall pick, the Bruins selected Dean Letourneau. Why him? Well, others they likely preferred were already taken, and Letourneau's ceiling is as high as his vantage point.

Later in the draft, the Bruins traded Jakub Lauko to the Minnesota Wild in order to move up in the 4th round, shed a bit of cap space, and declutter the bottom 6.

All attention turns to Monday, where the Bruins will be looking to land a big fish in Steven Stamkos or Elias Lindholm, among other needs.

Boston Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney is set to have a busy next few days. The team will be on the clock to pick 25th overall at the National Hockey League Entry Draft on Friday (with some later picks incoming Saturday), and will be looking to swing big in free agency on Monday.

Sweeney addressed the media Thursday from Vegas, and Locked on Boston Bruins host Ian McLaren breaks down what Sweeney had to say about the first-round pick (and potentially trading it), the priorities in free agency, Jake DeBrusk likely signing elsewhere, Fabian Lysell, Joonas Korpisalo and more.

Plus, Brad Marchand and Charlie McAvoy were named to their respective 4 Nations Face-Off rosters, and could the Bruins be in on Winnipeg Jets prospect Rutger McGroarty?

Boston Bruins General Manager took care of a big piece of business by trading Linus Ullmark to the Ottawa Senators earlier this week. Next, he needs to re-sign Jeremy Swayman, hit on the 25th overall pick, and spend well and wisely in free agency.

Locked on Boston Bruins host Ian McLaren touches on some prospects the Bruins should target, mentioning again Jett Luchanko and Sacha Boisvert while adding Cole Beaudoin and Dean Letourneau to the conversation.

Plus, a look at what the team needs in free agency, including a center, one or two wingers (depending on what happens with Jake DeBrusk), and depth on the blue line.

Finally, Ullmark will not be signing an extension right away, nor will he be hugging his new goaltending partner.

Heads were scratched when the Boston Bruins added goaltender Joonas Korpisalo in a trade with the Ottawa Senators involving Linus Ullmark. Sure they got a 1st round draft pick, but is it work picking up a guy who really struggled in 2023-24? Do they plan to buy him out out try to flip him?

Locked on Boston Bruins host Ian McLaren breaks down the options, and why all signs point to Korpisalo backing up Jeremy Swayman for the foreseeable future.

Plus, the Bruins' Centennial logo is officially shelved.

Minutes before Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final, the Boston Bruins traded goaltender Linus Ullmark to the Ottawa Senators for forward Mark Kastelic, goaltender Joonas Korpisalo and a 2024 first-round draft pick (25th overall).

Locked on Boston Bruins host Ian McLaren argues while it's great to get back into the first round, and Ottawa is retaining 25% of Korpisalo's salary, the return for the 2023 Vezina Trophy winner is underwhelming. Ullmark for a late first would have been fine, and late first to take Korpisalo's contract is reasonable, but altogether, it's not great.

Ullmark not immediately signing an extension with the Senators surely diminished the return, and there's questions about whether Korpisalo will stick around (which we'll discuss in a future episode).

At the end of the day, Ullmark is moving to Ottawa, and the podcast ends with a quick look at his legacy in black and gold.

There was no movement on the Linus Ullmark front over the weekend, although there are rumblings of a third team being involved along with the Ottawa Senators, as well as two other teams on the radar.

Locked on Boston Bruins host offers the absolute latest on the Ullmark trade front, with the Bruins no doubt wanting to get something locked down before the Draft on Friday. An extension could be needed, though, which can't be signed until July 1.

Plus, the Bruins re-signed depth defenseman Ian Mitchell, and it's Game 7 of the Stanly Cup Final! Who you got?

As it stands, the Boston  Bruins won't select until the fourth round of next week's National Hockey League Entry Draft. That could change, though, if a Linus Ullmark trade is made and they can snag the 25th overall pick, which originally belonged to them.

Locked on Boston Bruins host Ian McLaren names a pair of center prospects that the Bruins should target if they get that pick, and also looks at what's next on the NHL calendar once the Stanley Cup Final between the Edmonton Oilers and Florida Panthers finally wraps up.

That would be the buyout window, and the Bruins aren't expected to be active there unless veteran players become available for cheap.
