Locked On Bruins - Daily Podcast On The Boston Bruins

The Boston Bruins have a number of unrestricted free agents, with big decisions to make in terms of who to re-sign, who to let walk, and what cap space they want to leave open to attract players on July 1.

Locked on Boston Bruins host looks at the UFAs and determines who should stay (Jake DeBrusk, Danton Heinen, maybe 1 more), and who can walk (everyone else).

Plus, a look back at the last time Don Sweeney had significant cap space to work with, how that can help him this time around and what he can learn from it.

The first offseason domino fell over the weekend as the Boston Bruins and goaltending prospect Reid Dyck did not sign an entry-level agreement. Whether that was a team decision or Dyck decided he wanted to re-enter the draft is undetermined, but there's one fewer goalie in the pipeline.

Linus Ullmark is still around, of course, but could be included in a package to acquire Martin Necas from the Carolina Hurricanes. Or, perhaps he could be floated in a deal with the Devils as New Jersey appears willing to part with the 10th overall pick.

It's a Tuesday news day as Locked on Boston Bruins host Ian McLaren brings you all the latest on the black and gold in the lead up to a Florida Panthers - Edmonton Oilers Stanley Cup Final.

Charlie Coyle and Pavel Zacha had massive skates to fill following the retirement of Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci, and they went out and posted career highs in the regular season. Production dipped in the playoffs, though, as did success in the faceoff circle. With cap space at the ready, Don Sweeney will certainly be looking to add at the center position.

Locked on Boston Bruins host looks at Coyle and Zacha in the regular season vs. playoffs and discusses free agent options like Elias Lindholm, Steven Stamkos, Sean Monahan, and the big fish Leon Draisaitl who could become available next summer.

For the last 15+ years, the Boston Bruins have been ridiculously blessed with high-quality goaltending, from Tim Thomas and Tuukka Rask to Linus Ullmark and Jeremy Swayman and even some random backups in between.

The Bruins boast one of the best tandems in net, but Swayman stole the show in the playoffs, and is due a large raise as a restricted free argent. And so, it seems as though Linus Ullmark might be traded this summer. In fact, it's pretty likely.

Locked on Boston Bruins host Ian McLaren looks at Bruins' goaltending in the 21st century, Swayman / Ullmark this season, and what the future portends for this duo.

Few would have thought Brad Marchand would rise to the ranks of captain of the Boston Bruins, but after one season on the job, it's clear he's the right man for the job.

The Bruins exceeded expectations all year long, and their leader was a big part of that despite diminishing offensive production. He was certainly missed in the series against the Florida Panthers after being injured by Sam Bennett, and had some of his best games of the season in the first round against Toronto.

Marchand can become an unrestricted free agent next summer, but Don Sweeney has declared Marchand will be a lifelong Bruin. What his next deal looks like will be very interesting, considering he'll be 37 years old.

It's Marchand season in review day on Locked on Boston Bruins. Subscribe and make the podcast a daily listen.

It was a dream end to the season for David Pastrnak, but on the international stage rather that in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Pastrnak scored the game winning goal to win gold at the 2025 IIHF World Championships for his native Czechia on Sunday, an event made even more special because the tournament was hosted by the Czechs. He, along with Pavel Zacha, helped Czechia win its first gold since 2010, and it's maybe the country's biggest win since Nagano.

This comes after the second most prolific offensive NHL season of his career in which he set a new high for assists. His production was down in the postseason, highlighting Boston's need to add scoring to relieve the defensive pressure placed on Pastrnak.

Are there any health concerns? Google Translate suggests he may be dealing with a hip issue that hopefully won't require surgery.

It's a David Pastrnak year season in review on today's Locked on Boston Bruins. Subscribe to become a daily listener.

Based on expectations heading into 2023-24 , it's fair to say more went right than wrong for the Boston Bruins this past season. Many didn't think they'd make the playoffs after the departures of Patrice Bergeron, David Krejci, Taylor Hall, and others. Instead, they made it to the second round.

So, what went right? It all begins with Jeremy Swayman and Linus Ullmark.

What went wrong? Shot volume and lack of secondary scoring.

Can it be fixed this offseason? Don Sweeney will cap space and trade possibilities.

Join Locked on Boston Bruins host Ian McLaren as he breaks it all down, and subscribe to become a daily listener.

The Boston Bruins brass addressed the media Wednesday and echoed a common sentiment around this team: disappointment over losing to the Florida Panthers in Round 2, but also pleased with what they accomplished in a transition year and hopeful about the future.

Head coach Jim Montgomery will be back behind the bench, and team president Cam Neely and general manager Don Sweeney are intent on improving the roster and complimenting the new core with high end talent.

Linus Ullmark and Jake DeBrusk, however, could very well be on the outs, as updates from Sweeney weren't super encouraging about their futures with the club.

Everything we learned from Bruins' brass on today's episode. Subscribe and become a daily listener.

Before apparently heading off on a boys trip, Boston Bruins players met with the media and had a lot of positive things to say about the 2023-24 experience.

From captain Brad Marchand to the new core of David Pastrnak, Jeremy Swayman, and Charlie McAvoy  and right on down to guys unlikely to return, there a lot of good to take away despite the second round loss to the Florida Panthers.

Locked on Boston Bruins host breaks down what we learned about what it was like in the room this past season, and why players are hopeful about the future of this club with roster changes looming.
