Locked On Bruins - Daily Podcast On The Boston Bruins

The Boston Bruins went 1-2 at the 2023 Prospects Challenge in Buffalo, and there were a couple players that stood out above the rest: Brett Harrison and Luke Toporowski.

Meanwhile, guys like Fabian Lysell, Mason Lohrei, Georgii Merkulov, and John Farinacci showed they're likely to form a solid core in Providence this season.

Locked on Boston Bruins host takes a look at the forward situation ahead of training camp, and plots out how hard it will be for these AHL guys to make the opening night roster, especially with Danton Heinen and Alex Chiasson attending on PTOs.

Plus, the Bruins have a new assistant coach.

The Boston Bruins unveiled three commemorative Centennial jerseys to be worn during the club’s 100th year in 2023-24.

The new jerseys include a new primary home and away look, as well as a vintage alternate expected to be worn for select Original Six matchups during the coming season.

Locked on Bruins host Ian McLaren discusses the features of the jerseys and assigns a letter grade to each.

Plus, some notes from the Prospects Challenge and a word on why the Bruins don't have a Mike Babcock problem.

There will be Boston Bruins hockey today!

The Prospects Challenge is happening this weekend in Buffalo, and Bruins youngsters will take on their Pittsburgh Penguins peers on Friday.

There's a few guys to keep an eye on, including Fabian Lysell, Mason Lohrei, Matt Poitras, and Georgii Merkulov. The guys closest to making the NHL roster might be John Beecher, who needs to make a great impression at this tournament.

Plus, head coach Jim Montgomery confirms there will be a captain this season (Brad Marchand? Charlie McAvoy?), and there will also be a new assistant coach named soon.

And Jake DeBrusk says there's nothing new in contract extension talks as he gets ready for a career-defining season.

The Boston Bruins announced the “Historic 100,” a list of the 100 most legendary players in franchise history as voted upon by an independent committee of journalists and media members, historians and members of the hockey community.

Locked on Boston Bruins host mentions a few players that should have been included on the list, including Joe Juneau, Michael Ryder, and Linus Ullmark.

Next it's a look at Ian's All-Centennial team, picking the most legendary 2 goalies, 6 defensemen, and 12 forwards.

Then, a quick glance at who stood out on the Historic 100.

The Boston Bruins are reportedly interested in Ottawa Senators restricted free agent Shane Pinto.

The center did score 20 goals as a rookie last season, but Locked on Bruins host Ian McLaren argues it wouldn't make much sense to flip a top prospect like Fabian Lysell to fill a role that's occupied by Morgan Geekie or Trent Frederic.

These are guys with similar upside the Bruins invested in this past offseason, leaving them without the cap space to sign Pinto.

Plus, Milan Lucic is back at Bruins practice and Alex Chiasson isn't a fan of PTOs.

One of the biggest storylines for the Boston Bruins in 2023-24 is how Charlie Coyle and Pavel Zacha will step in as the team's top two centers following the retirements of Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci.

Locked on Boston Bruins host Ian McLaren takes a look around the Eastern Conference and argues there's maybe a handful of teams with less inviable center depth than the Bruins, with the Buffalo Sabres, Florida Panthers, and New Jersey Devils boasting the strongest groups.

Thankfully, the Bruins are very strong elsewhere, and Don Sweeney remains on the hunt for a top line option.

The Boston Bruins signed forward Danton Heinen to a professional tryout offer on Tuesday.

Heinen was traded to the Anaheim Ducks for Nick Ritchie a few years ago, and returns to the Bruins after a couple seasons with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

He's not guaranteed to make the team, though, and will battle with Alex Chiasson (also on a PTO) and other forwards like Jesper Boqvist, Milan Lucic, Jakub Lauko, Patrick Brown and potential AHL graduates for a spot on the opening night roster.

Plus, Brad Marchand is sure talking like the next captain of the Bruins.

Ian McLaren of Locked on Boston Bruins and Armando Velez of Locked on Florida Panthers team up for a crossover episode for the first time since the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

The Panthers will begin a new season with Aaron Ekblad and Brandon Montour on the sidelines due to injury, and Ian asks about potential breakouts from Spencer Knight and Anton Lundell.

The Bruins are enterting the post Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci era, and Ian discusses how they'll stay afloat while they search for long term replacements down the middle.

Jake DeBrusk wants to sign a contract extension with the Boston Bruins.

The 26-year-old can become an unrestricted free agent next summer after his two-year contract expires. That deal was signed during a very public trade request, but a lot has changed since then.

DeBrusk now has the chance to prove why he's a core member of the team both on and off the ice. If he can make good on his 30+ goal potential, a long term, reasonable money extension will be an easy sign for both sides.

Plus, the first practice is set for next Tuesday, and new jerseys - to be worn during 15 nationally televised games - will be revealed in a couple weeks.
