Locked On Bruins - Daily Podcast On The Boston Bruins

Let's be honest, the 2023 offseason was much longer than the Boston Bruins anticipated.

A devastating first-round exit was followed by a bunch of departures (Patrice Bergeron, Taylor Hall, Tyler Bertuzzi, David Krejci, Garnet Hathaway, Dmitry Orlov, Nick Foligno, Thomas Nosek, and Connor Clifton) and some underwhelming additions (Morgan Geekie, James van Riemsdyk, Milan Lucic, Jesper Boqvist, Kevin Shattenkirk).

BUT the Bruins prioritized their NHL-best goaltending tandem of Linus Ullmark and Jeremy Swayman and a defense corps that was tops in the league last season.

Will it be enough to remain in the playoff picture, or will they be cashing in on the top-10 protection on their 2024 1st round pick?

The Boston Bruins signed forward John Farinacci to a two-year entry-level contract with an annual NHL cap hit of $910,000.

Ian McLaren discusses the signing, how Boston is filling out the prospect pool despite a lack of draft picks, and what Farinacci can bring to the organization.

Next, Locked on NHL hosts recently participated in polls ranking players at each position, and we're looking at the results for Linus Ullmark, Jeremy Swayman, and Charlie McAvoy. Spoiler alert - too low, especially for McAcvoy.

Ullmark may have been a one season wonder, but McAvoy is without question a top 5 defenseman in the NHL today.

Ian McLaren continues a series on jersey numbers and who wore it best while as a member of the Boston Bruins.

Nos 20-29 are highlighted by two Bruins legends in Terry O'Reilly and Willie O'Ree, while there's a few members of the 2011 Stanley Cup team in this bunch.

Call it recency bias, but Cup winners will get love at every single opportunity, so shout out to Dan Paille, Andrew Ference, and Chris Kelly.

After 15 full NHL seasons, David Krejci has decided to retire from the best league in the world.

He finishes career as one of the top point producers and playoff performers in team history. Krejci led the Bruins in scoring during the 2011 Stanley Cup run and set up one of the most iconic goals in team history to win Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals. He also led the Bruins in scoring in 2013 and would have won the Conn Smythe had the Bruins not lost to the Chicago Blackhawks.

Hang 46 from the rafters for his impact on and off the ice.

Plus, a quick word from Ian McLaren on the state of the center position down the middle with Charlie Coyle and Pavel Zacha now the featured players. Don Sweeney has some work to do in trades or free agency.

Continuing a series that was kicked off during the pandemic (remember those days) by looking at jersey numbers 30-39 and asking who wore it best while a member of the Boston Bruins.

Some obvious ones jump out - 37 Patrice Bergeron, 33 Zdeno Chara, 30 Tim Thomas. You can make an argument for all three being hung in the rafters.

Join Ian McLaren for a little blast into the past as the Bruins approach their centennial season, and stay for some unexpected names along the way.

Jeremy Swayman could not be happier about being back under contract with the Boston Bruins after a somewhat arduous arbitration process.

Ian McLaren breaks down Swayman's comments from Tuesday about how it wasn't a process he wanted to go through, and how he's ready to get back to hockey.

Plus, what Swayman had to say about building up the post-Patrice Bergeron era in Boston.

Then, Ian ranks all 32 NHL logos. You might not believe what comes in at No. 1.

Breaking: The Boston Bruins don't have a deep pr promising prospect pool.

Hear from Haid Kalakeche and Sebastian High of Locked on NHL Prospects as they slot the Bruins at 29 among all teams, plus some thought from Ian McLaren on why the Bruins rank so low.

Fabian Lysell, Mason Lohrei, and Matt Poitras have potential, but there's not much to write home about after that.

Plus, the latest on David Krejci, who may be done with the NHL but not necessarily retiring quite yet.

The Bruins have a vacant C following the retirement of Patrice Bergeron, which begs the question as to who will be the next captain.

Ian McLaren looks back at the captains since the 70s, and discusses ex-Bruins head coach Bruce Cassidy's comments about Brad Marchand filling the role.

Marchand would be a great choice, and one no one would have seen coming a decade ago. But will the Bruins go younger?

Perhaps Charlie McAvoy is the guy? Or David Pastrnak? Ort a darkhorse choice like Brandon Carlo or Charlie Coyle?
