Locked On Bruins - Daily Podcast On The Boston Bruins

The Boston Bruins roster for 2023-24 is pretty much set after the two big restricted free agents signed new deals on Tuesday.

Jeremy Swayman was awarded a one-year, $3.475 million deal after an abitration hearing, while Trent Frederic and the Bruins agreed to terms on a two-year deal with an average annual valuation of $2.3 million prior to their scheduled hearing.

With that, the Bruins have a full roster, and Ian McLaren breaks down what could come next and what position battles are on deck at training camp.

There's some doom and gloom surrounding the Boston Bruins after an epic playoff collapse, and perhaps rightfully so.

But things aren't all bad for the black and gold, and there's reason to believe the Bruins will still be pretty good next season apart from other Atlantic Division teams taking steps back.

Ian McLaren breaks down three specific reasons: David Pastrnak, Charlie McAvoy and Hampus Lindholm anchoring the defense, and a commitment to keeping Linus Ullmark and Jeremy Swayman together.

There's been a lot of changes to all the Atlantic Division teams so far this summer, and not necessarily for the better.

The Boston Bruins are sure to drop off from their historic regular season, but are they still a playoff team? A lot of that depends on whether Patrice Bergeron is back, but the answers is likely yes.

Ian McLaren takes a look at improvements made by the Detroit Red Wings, Montreal Canadiens, Ottawa Senators and Buffalo Sabres, while there's reason to believe the Florida Panthers, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Toronto Maple Leafs won't be as good as last season either.

A very early look at the power rankings, how much the landcape has changed, any why the Metro will be the division to watch.

The Boston Bruins have signed goaltender Michael DiPietro, defenseman Alec Regula and defenseman Reilly Walsh each to one-year, two-way contracts with an NHL cap hit of $775,000.

The leaves Jeremy Swayman and Trent Frederic as the remaining restricted free agents yet to sign. Their arbtration hearign are set for late July and early August.

Ian McLaren looks at a recent contract signed by the Tampa Bay Lightning and Tanner Jeannot as a comparable for Frederic.

Plus, Anton Stralman wasn'y about his lack of playing time with the Bruins last season. He and two other former B's Zach Senyshyn and Ondrej Kase - is taking their talents to Europe next season.

This should come as no surprise, but the 2023-24 Boston Bruins won't be as good as last season.

Part of that is the fact their historic regular season is unlikely to be replicated by any team for a while, but there are some specific reasons as well.

For one, Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci might not be back, and the offense took further hits with the losses of Taylor Hall and Tyler Bertuzzi.

Plus, Linus Ullmark is likely to regress, and even hitting his career average will cost several goals against.

They should still be fine, but expect a few (perhaps many) more L's.

The Boston Bruins signed another player in free agency on Wednesday, adding 24-year-old Jesper Boqvist.

Boqvist previously played for the New Jersey Devils after being drafted in the second round back in 2017, and scored 10 goals in each of the past two seasons despite limited ice time.

So, where does he fit with the 2023-24 Bruins?

Plus, Nick Foligno recently spoke about his disappointment over being scratched in Gamer 7 against the Florida Panthers, and a question about whether Jake DeBrusk will get a contract extension.
