Locked On Canadiens - Daily Podcast on the Montreal Canadiens

Scott and Laura welcome back Julian McKenzie of the Scrum Podcast to talk about the busy Canadiens' off-season so far.

They'll discuss the new identity of the team after the NHL Draft when they added Kaiden Guhle and Luke Tuch, and why adding toughness to this roster is good since they've added skill as well.

Then it's a look into the pre-free agency signings and trades by Marc Bergevin and how they continued to build the new Habs lineup for this year and how it makes them a true playoff contender now.

Finally a debate about whether or not Brendan Gallagher's new contract should set the bar for Phillip Danault's impending contract negotiations.

It's a guest day at Locked on Canadiens as Alison Lukan(@AlisonL) joins the show to help break down a number of pressing questions in the Canadiens fanbase!

First and foremost, we wanted to know what makes Josh Anderson tick as a player, and why he was likely so appealing to the Canadiens as a whole. Alison breaks down why Anderson is such a special talent, and why he's so much more than a big body in the lineup for the Canadiens.

Secondly we'll look at the strange world of free agency, and how this pandemic fueled market has created an unforeseen wealth of players who can be had for below market value. Alison takes a look at who might fit into the Columbus lineup next season.

Finally, the hosts and Alison examine how Max Domi can fit in with John Tortorella in Columbus, and how he could possibly thrive there as well.

We're back after a not quite so busy first weekend of free agency to break down the Canadiens moves, or lack thereof.

First up though, with a weekend to reflect, Scott and Laura look at Josh Anderson's seven year deal compared to some signings in free agency, and what the next step for Marc Bergevin has to be.

Following that Scott has some thoughts on the Canadiens' only free agent signing of the weekend coming in the form of AHL enforcer Brandon Baddock, and where he fits in the organization.

Then, its time to take a look at the new contracts for Victor Mete, Noah Juulsen and Xavier Ouellet, with some praise to Marc Bergevin for getting most of his housekeeping done with restricted free agents.

In the last segment our listeners can hear Scott's heart break live as Taylor Hall signs with the Buffalo Sabres, leaving the Canadiens out in the cold, and in need of a big back up plan. Speaking of plans, what exactly was the Canadiens plan this off-season, and what can they do with Hall off the market now?

As we were recording the episode, news broke that the Montreal Canadiens had signed Josh Anderson to a 7-year contract, and we provide initial thoughts on that. Plus, we have our usual mailbag questions, which are heavy on the draft and free agency this year, and some discussion on the lack of French Canadian or QMJHL players in the Habs' 2020 draft class.

We discuss the overall format of the NHL 2020 Draft, what we liked and didn't like as well as what we would change. We then move on the Montreal Canadiens' draft picks on Day 2, and see if there's a pattern to their draft strategy. Finally, we go over Max Domi's comments a day after after being traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets.

It's the first night of the NHL Draft and there was plenty of craziness to be covered outside of the Canadiens first pick of the draft.

Before that though, Marc Bergevin was extremely busy in the morning, pulling the trigger on a buyout of Karl Alzner. Scott and Laura take a look at what that means and why it needed to happen for both sides.

Then, it was Bergevin sending Max Domi to Columbus for Josh Anderson in a move out of the blue. The hosts take a look at why the move has plenty of upside, but also is a huge risk for the Habs.

Finally, the Canadiens selected Kaiden Guhle at 16th overall, so who the heck is Kaiden Guhle and is he what the Habs actually needed. The hosts also take a peak at some of the other nonsense happening in round one, and how it could always be worse.
