Locked On Canadiens - Daily Podcast on the Montreal Canadiens

The Montreal Canadiens take Cayden Lindstrom to dinner, Tij Iginla has a great attitude, and some NHL Draft prospects don't have a filter... all that, and more, as Scott recaps his experience at this year's NHL Draft Combine. We begin with general thoughts about the combine and what stood out, as well as the prevailing thought that Kent Hughes is not really interested in trading the fifth overall pick. In our second segment, we narrow in on Cayden Lindstrom and Tij Iginla as two players who may be available when the Habs pick at 5th overall. Finally, in the third segment, we discuss some of the more quirky parts of the combine, including the dreaded team questions to the players.

Scott and Laura tackle the news that just won't seem to go away in regards to Martin Necas and Trevor Zegras. This time however, the news might not be good, as reports are circling that the team might already be out of the running for both players. Carolina apparently doesn't see anything of interest in Montreal, and the Habs are unwilling to potentially meet Anaheim's high asking price. So now what?

After that it's the Friday Mailbag!

The hosts dive into listener questions as F1 Weekend in Montreal approaches, and more NHL Draft rumours begin swirling!

F1 listener question teams: Montreal, Toronto, Boston, Detroit, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Ottawa, Tampa Bay, Chicago, and New York (Rangers)

Inside the latest Locked on Canadiens

The Habs have been busy on the transaction market once again, adding a pair of players this afternoon.

First up is Josh Nadeau, brother of Hurricanes draft pick Bradley Nadeau. Josh joins the Montreal Canadiens for their upcoming development camp after the NHL Draft and looks like a potential steal of an add for the Laval Rocket next year. After putting up over 2 points per game in the BCHL and point per game in the NCAA, can Nadeau surprise in camp?

Up next is an actual full contract signing, and one that appeared out of nowhere with Connor Hughes joining on a one-year, two-way contract. Hughes comes over from the Swiss National League where he reigned as one of the best netminders in the league. So the question is, where does he fit in the goalie spectrum in Montreal?

Finally, the hosts debate over whether or not Kent Hughes HAS to make a big off-season splash move, or if simply letting the team get healthy will fit the bill as well.

The Montreal Canadiens have signed Jared Davidson to an entry level contract. What this means for the Habs prospect. Owen Beck shone in the Memorial Cup playoffs and was named MVP. We talk about the chances of him making the Habs next year. Sean Monahan is going to free agency. Can Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton bring the fan favourite back? Should they? Finally, Montreal as a destination where hockey players would want to play.

Inside the latest Locked on Canadiens

Scott is here to kick off the player review part of the off-season, and is starting with perhaps the most unclear position in the Montreal Canadiens organization...Goaltending.

The Habs went into this season with a three-goalie system and left it with just two players left between the pipes after a deal at the Trade Deadline. So, who stood out this year, and who disappointed in net for Montreal(and Laval), and what can we expect next season?

Scott also takes a look at why the risk of trying to run a three-goalie crease was a gamble that didn't quite pay off for Montreal this season, but was understandably worth attempting.

Inside the latest Locked on Canadiens

Scott and Laura dip into some off-season silliness, what if the current Montreal Canadiens were current professional wrestlers? Who is the Habs version of Cody Rhodes? Is there anyone reckless enough to be Jon Moxley? The hosts debate

Then to round out the second half of the show, Scott poses a simple question...Which single player would you take from each of the remaining Stanley Cup Playoff teams in order to make Montreal a legit Stanley Cup contender? The catch being, you cannot take any team captains, or alternate captains in this scenario.

Who did the hosts pick? Find out inside today's show!

In our first segment, we discuss the report that Laval Rocket head coach J-F Houle has re-signed with the Montreal Canadiens on a multi-year extension. In the second segment we talk about what Owen Beck will have to do to earn his NHL roster spot next season. In the third segment, we talk about potential Habs trade targets due to their current buy-low status. As well as one fantasy choice.

Inside the latest Locked on Canadiens

Czechia emerged from the 2024 World Championship as the victors, claiming a gold medal on their home ice, even more shocking is that they beat the Swiss for it as well. It's another reminder of how quickly the international scene is changing, and that smaller hockey nations are coming in and upsetting the usual giants with relative ease. Scott looks at the results, and why the Big Four nations not winning all the time, is actually great for hockey.

The Laval Rocket have been extremely quiet so far this off-season with the lingering discussion over whether or not JF Houle will be back behind the bench. Scott discusses the only real update the team has had, with coach Kelly Buchberger stepping away to coach in the AJHL next year instead.

Finally, is the officiating in the Stanley Cup playoffs really that bad this year, or are fans and coaches just complaining more than ever?
