Locked On Canadiens - Daily Podcast on the Montreal Canadiens

Inside today's Locked on Canadiens

Scott takes a look at some of undeserved panic surrounding the Montreal Canadiens and Juraj Slafkovsky just six games into the latest NHL season. Scott breaks down the improvements he's seen from the first overall pick this year, and why everyone already declaring him a lost cause, has lost the plot just a bit. Scott also takes a look at why bringing up Joshua Roy isn't going to magically make things better and that trusting the long term vision is a must for this team.

Speaking of possible lineup changes, with all three goalies having been given a start so far in Montreal, what does the pecking order officially look like? Even more importantly with teams like the Oilers struggling to find any consistency in net, is there a deal to be made in order to solve the three person logjam? Scott breaks down his thoughts, and what it means for the Habs goaltending room in the coming weeks!

Rumours are also floating around that the Habs and Caps have engaged in possible trade discussions around Joel Armia and Anthony Mantha. Does this deal make any sense for either side, and can the Canadiens even get it done without giving up more to shed the rest of Armia's deal? Scott takes a look and analyzes the possibilities.

Finally, the Habs are back in action Thursday night as they take on the Columbus Blue Jackets and their burgeoning roster of young players. Can the Habs get back on track against a team that has tripped them up in recent seasons, or will Adam Fantilli and Johnny Gaudreau be too much for a beleaguered Canadiens defence?

The Montreal Canadiens have lost to the New Jersey Devils thanks to their poor performance on special teams, but there is a silver lining. David Savard is out 4-6 weeks, and the Laval Rocket are dealing with an injury bug of their own. What should the Habs do in the meantime to avoid over-working Mike Matheson? Finally, we talk about the Canadiens strengths at even strength.

Inside today's Locked on Canadiens

The Canadiens bounced back from an ugly loss to Minnesota to pick up a win over the Washington Capitals in overtime on Saturday night. Cole Caufield played the overtime hero while Nick Suzuki had his best showing of the season for the Habs. Scott and Laura take a look at the game, and some good underlying signs that the Habs might be okay this year.

Then, it's Three Up, Three Down!

To the surprise of no one, the Montreal Canadiens power play leads the way in this week's down column, the hosts discuss if it's time to shuffle some of the bodies around to find a more creative approach on the man advantage. Scott also has some concerns about the AHL goaltending situation, and how it might sink a promising Rocket season before it even begins. And finally, the injury curse appears to be back in full force, just not at the NHL level...yet.

On the up side, Joshua Roy has taken the AHL by storm, piling up an incredible week on the scoresheet and finding himself alone at the top of the scoring race in the early going of the season. He isn't the only member of the AHL team doing whatever they can to be noticed by the Canadiens staff, but who else will join Roy on the up list this week?

Inside today's Locked on Canadiens

Scott is flying solo tonight and that means it's time for a special show featuring the Laval Rocket and the Montreal Canadiens top prospects in the AHL!

First up, a wild Wednesday night at Place Bell that featured a three goal comeback, a hat trick, and a goalie goal in the Rocket/Amerks game, Scott does his best to break down all the insanity from the contest.

Then, who among the prospects has been impressing so far? Joshua Roy seems to be making every single case possible to be the top call up, but who else has impressed? Logan Mailloux continues to grow each game for Laval, but there's another name that has asserted himself as a real top option this year as well.

On the flip side of things, which prospects are struggling to make their mark? After a strong preseason it's been tough sledding for William Trudeau, can he find the form that made him so dominant last year? Also, what in the heck is going on in net? Scott breaks it all down!

The Montreal Canadiens have lost to the Minnesota Wild after a disappointing game in which they took far too many penalties and allowed the power play to sink their hopes. Michael Pezzetta was one of the few highlights of the game. After recapping the game in the first segment, we discuss Kaiden Guile's injury and what it might mean for the team going forward. Finally, in our third segment, we discuss goaltending and when Cayden Primeau might get a chance to prove himself.

Inside today's Locked on Canadiens

Bad news comes in threes and the Montreal Canadiens are no exception to that old saying as they received a pile of injury news on Monday afternoon. David Reinbacher will be out multiple weeks after a collision with the boards in Switzerland, while Emil Heineman will be out indefinitely after being kneed in the head on Saturday.

The worst news came in the form of Kirby Dach's injury, as it was revealed he suffered a devastating knee injury against Chicago that will leave the Habs without one of their best players for the rest of the season. It's a brutal blow to the Habs very early in the season and leaves fans wondering how they can replace him in the lineup now.

Time marches on however, and the Canadiens welcome the Minnesota Wild to the Bell Centre on Tuesday night. The Wild have had the Habs number in recent years, but can the Canadiens build on their win over Chicago and start a winning streak?

On today’s episode, we talk about the Montreal Canadiens 3-2 win against the Chicago Blackhawks that may have cost the Habs Kirby Dach and who should play in his sport until he comes back. We then have our weekly 3 Up and 3 Down, but we cheat this time with mostly 3 Ups for both the Laval Rocket and the Montreal Canadiens.

Inside today's Locked on Canadiens

It was opening night for the Montreal Canadiens as they played a wild 6-5 game with the Toronto Maple Leafs, coming up just short in the shootout on Wednesday night. Scott breaks down the game with all the good and the bad thrown in to kick off the show!

Perhaps the biggest moment of the night came with a clash of two heavyweights as well with Arber Xhekaj showing no fear in going after Ryan Reaves in a decisive win in their first meeting. Does this make Xhekaj the top dog in the NHL's fighter ranks? Scott sure thinks so!

Among the names that also impressed was Juraj Slafkovsky, and after a much ballyhooed preseason, the first overall pick looked great, even in defeat against Toronto. Scott breaks down what went right for the big winger as well!

Finally, to round out the show Scott looks ahead to Saturday's home opener against the Chicago Blackhawks and Connor Bedard. What can Montreal do to tighten things up and come away with their first victory of the season against the newest generational star?
