Locked On Falcons - Daily Podcast On The Atlanta Falcons

Atlanta Falcons head coach Raheem Morris spoke to the media this morning during the NFL's owner meetings in Orlando, Florida, where he discussed various topics, including the team's desire to bolster the quarterback room. Host Aaron Freeman and guest Dave Choate (@TheFalcoholicLive) discuss how that impacts the team's 2024 NFL Draft plans at quarterback and Taylor Heinicke's grip on a roster spot. Later, they discuss the team's free-agent moves so far this offseason, Calais Campbell's potential return, and whether or not the Falcons can realistically draft three defensive starters come April. They also look at the team's 2022 and 2023 NFL Draft classes to see which players are poised for the biggest jumps in their second and third NFL seasons. Expectations for the Atlanta Falcons have been raised thanks to upgrading their quarterback position by adding veteran Kirk Cousins this offseason. Host Aaron Freeman answers a series of listener questions over what should the expectations be. Are the Falcons now a legit Super Bowl contender? Or should it should be lowered to being a competitive, playoff team? Later, he discusses some free-agent moves he'd make between now and the 2024 NFL Draft if he could take over for GM Terry Fontenot. He discusses the potential pursuit of safety Justin Simmons or cornerback Xavien Howard, if Notre Dame offensive tackle Joe Alt would help improve the team's pass protection, and whether or not the team should wait for the 2025 NFL Draft to find their QB of the future such as Colorado's Shedeur Sanders, or just pull the trigger on South Carolina's Spencer Rattler this year. Back in 2016, the Atlanta Falcons had one of their best drafts in team history with multiple guys starting on the defensive side of the ball in their rookie seasons. Raheem Morris and Terry Fontenot will be tasked with trying to repeat that because of their needs headed into the 2024 NFL Draft. Tenitra Batiste, Jarvis Davis and Aaron Freeman talked about the type of strategies the Falcons’ brass needs to implement in April. Secondly, the Falcons’ defense will have to figure out a way to coach their defensive players differently when it comes to tackling a player on offense. At the NFL owners meetings, they voted to take the swivel hip drop tackle. The team discussed the confusion and the apathy they had towards this decision by the national football league. Lastly, former Falcon Deion Sanders, implied that he will allow Shadeur Sanders and Travis Hunter to only go to certain teams when they declare for the 2025 NFL Draft. The team discussed how they were all for it.

The Atlanta Falcons need to improve their pass rush and should have plenty of options at the top of the 2024 NFL Draft. Host Aaron Freeman breaks down a recent four-round mock draft from Chad Reuter (@NFL) that has them moving back three spots and getting Florida State edge-rusher Jared Verse. He breaks down why Verse is the safest bet among the top pass-rushers in this year's draft. Later, he looks at Chad's four Day 2 selections in Notre Dame CB Cam Hart, Brigham Young OT Kingsley Suamataia, Michigan LB Junior Colson, and Florida WR Ricky Pearsall. He also goes deep on fourth-round selection in South Carolina QB Spencer Rattler. Part of the @LockedOnATL Follow & Subscribe on all Podcast platforms… 🎧 https://link.chtbl.com/LOFalcons?sid=... The Atlanta Falcons need to improve their pass rush and the free-agent market is scraping the bottom of the barrel. Host Aaron Freeman breaks down why trading for Philadelphia Eagles outside linebacker Haason Reddick could potentially on the table if the Falcons are willing to part ways with an early-round pick and pay him a big contract. But he discusses why he's skeptical based on the Falcons' offseason moves so far if they will pull the trigger. Later, he responds to a listener who disagrees with his previous comparison of the Falcons' 2024 offseason to those conducted by former Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff. He breaks down why he is underwhelmed with the Falcons' free-agent additions at wide receiver and why it compares to the team's 2019 offseason. The Atlanta Falcons are under investigation for illegally tampering during the "legal tampering" period before free agency with unauthorized contact between team officials and new quarterback Kirk Cousins. Host Aaron Freeman breaks down what he thinks the potential punishment might be and if the team will get off with a slap on the wrist or will NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell do the usual and bring the hammer down. Later, he revisits the end of the Desmond Ridder Era after his trade to the Arizona Cardinals last week to discuss whether or not he has any regrets regarding his belief in Ridder. He's also joined by Brian Peacock (@LockedOn49ers) to discuss new Falcons: tight end Charlie Woerner and wide receiver Ray-Ray McCloud, formerly of the San Francisco 49ers. The Atlanta Falcons still have several spots across their roster that could use upgrades. Host Aaron Freeman breaks down the team's top six needs after the first wave of free agency, and some other spots that also could be upgraded. He looks at the team's quarterback, wide receiver, offensive line, defensive line, linebacker, and secondary as areas of concern and breaks down how the Falcons would build their 48-man roster if they had to play a game this weekend. Later, he's joined by Alex Clancy (@LockedOnCardinals) to discuss the Rondale Moore-Desmond Ridder trade, and Lorin Cox (@LockedOnBears) to break down what Darnell Mooney is bringing to the Falcons. The Atlanta Falcons will sport a brand new look to their offense in 2024 under new quarterback Kirk Cousins and offensive coordinator Zac Robinson. Host Aaron Freeman breaks down whether that innovation will mean improved years for both tight end Kyle Pitts and wide receiver Drake London. He discusses how both players' roles might change moving forward compared to how they were used by former head coach Arthur Smith. Later, he looks at the Falcons re-signing defensive lineman Kentavius Street and whether they've done enough to bolster their defensive line depth behind Grady Jarrett and David Onyemata. The Atlanta Falcons took control of the headlines last week when they signed Kirk Cousins to a 4-year, 180 million dollar contract with 100 million guaranteed. Terry Fontenot and Raheem Morris, now that they have their quarterback situated, have a different set of expectations for this team in 2024. Tenitra Batiste, Aaron Freeman, Tori McElhaney and Jarvis Davis talked about exactly what those are. Secondly, the team talked about whether or not Taylor Heinicke will be on this roster once things get started this summer. If the Falcons were to cut Heinicke, they would save like seven millions dollars against the cap. Lastly, the team discussed the trade of Justin Fields and how it affects former Falcons head coach Arthur Smith. Also, they mentioned the signing of Kentavious Street and Ray Ray McCloud III becoming official.

The first week of NFL free agency has wrapped, and the Atlanta Falcons have new options on the table at the top of the 2024 NFL Draft. Host Aaron Freeman breaks down how the top seven selections might go and which teams are looking at quarterback, wide receiver, and offensive tackle. He breaks down how the Falcons could take a wide receiver, pass-rusher, or trade back in the first round. Later, he breaks down how the Falcons drafting a wide receiver could be the catalyst to pushing them into contention now that they've added Kirk Cousins at quarterback. Finally, he's joined by Luke Braun (@LockedOnVikings) to discuss why things didn't work out for Cousins in Minnesota over the past six years.
