Locked On Falcons - Daily Podcast On The Atlanta Falcons

New Atlanta Falcons head coach Raheem Morris was responsible for keeping the Los Angeles Rams from falling apart under Sean McVay the past two seasons. Host Aaron Freeman and guest Jourdan Rodrigue (@TheAthletic) discuss how critical Morris' presence was to keep the Rams together throughout a troublesome 2022 season and reinvigorate McVay's passion for the sport.

They also discuss Morris' ability to make adjustments during the course of games as the Rams defensive coordinator over the past three years. Later, they look at new Falcons offensive coordinator Zac Robinson's stint as an assistant with the Rams, his role in teaching the McVay offense on the fly to veteran QBs Baker Mayfield and Carson Wentz the past two seasons, and whether that experience will lead the Falcons towards adding a veteran or draft pick to solve their quarterback woes.

There have been recent rumors connecting the Atlanta Falcons to pursuing Kansas City Chiefs cornerback L'Jarius Sneed. Host Aaron Freeman breaks down why he wasn't initially sold on the idea, but eventually warmed up to it. He discusses Sneed's potential to fill the "STAR" role in Raheem Morris' defense and what it would take for the Falcons to acquire and pay the franchise-tagged corner.

Later, he breaks down whether or not the team's interest in Sneed means that cornerback A.J. Terrell is on the trading block. He explains why it doesn't make sense for the Falcons to package Terrell to move up in the 2024 NFL Draft for a quarterback. Finally, he looks at wide receiver Mike Evans re-signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and what the Falcons rumored interest in him suggests for their offseason plans.

The Atlanta Falcons’ work is done at the NFL Combine. The entire professional football world was in Indianapolis checking out the best prospects. Raheem Morris and Terry Fontenot both spoke to the media. Tenitra Batiste, Tori McElhaney, Aaron Freeman and Jarvis Davis discussed being up there and their biggest takeaway from the event overall. Secondly, the team put their general manager hats on and discussed Justin Fields, Kirk Cousins, Russell Wilson and Baker Mayfield. The Falcons have big decisions to make if they want to compete in the NFC South. Lastly, they talked about the Carolina Panthers ending contract extension talks with Brian Burns. They discussed the possibility of Burns hitting 85 south and putting on a black and red uniform.

New Atlanta Falcons head coach Raheem Morris seeks stability at the quarterback position which leads down a path toward Kirk Cousins or a prospect in the 2024 NFL Draft. Host Aaron Freeman breaks down why those options likely give Morris at least three years with one quarterback, which will allow him to avoid the fate of former head coach Arthur Smith. He breaks down why trading for Chicago Bears QB Justin Fields essentially is a one-year rental and why the team would prefer to avoid that. Later, Aaron looks at a mock draft from Vinnie Iyer (@LockedOnFantasyFootball) that has the Falcons selecting Alabama edge-rusher Dallas Turner in the first round. Aaron breaks down why concerns about Turner's lack of production are unfounded and also how he thinks the first seven picks are likely to go. Finally, he discusses Texas WR Xavier Worthy's record-breaking 40-yard dash time, other Combine standouts at wide receiver, and his thoughts on the quarterbacks' throwing session on Saturday. The Atlanta Falcons won't be trading up in the 2024 NFL Draft based around reports emerging from the Scouting Combine. Host Aaron Freeman breaks down the latest scuttlebutt out of New England that suggests the Patriots are standing pat at the third overall pick and selecting a quarterback. He explains why that kills any hopes of a possible trade up and whether or not this means the Falcons turn to Kirk Cousins, Justin Fields, or J.J. McCarthy as their next franchise quarterback.

Later, he looks at the four premiere edge-rushers in Alabama's Dallas Turner, UCLA's Laiatu Latu, Florida State's Jared Verse, and Penn State's Chop Robinson to break down how their Combine testing matches up with their film.

The Atlanta Falcons may not be in any rush when it comes to trading for Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fieds. Despite some recent rumors from unreliable sources, host Aaron Freeman breaks down why he thinks the Falcons and other NFL teams will take their time vetting a Fields trade.

Later, he discusses how he interprets Falcons head coach Raheem Morris' comments about finding a quarterback that is the best fit for the city of Atlanta. Finally, he breaks down Jonnu Smith's release and where the Falcons go next at tight end.

New Atlanta Falcons head coach Raheem Morris spoke to media on Tuesday and indicated that the team is poised to make the playoffs in 2024 if they can upgrade their quarterback play. Host Aaron Freeman breaks down why Morris is both right and wrong in that assessment and dives into the discourse surrounding whether or not the Falcons are "a quarterback away."

He breaks down the inherent risk involved in the team being aggressive by trading up in the 2024 NFL Draft to find that quarterback before looking at whether or not the Falcons can foster a nurturing environment to develop a young quarterback.

The Atlanta Falcons might not get the chance to see some of the top 2024 NFL Draft prospects at this year's Scouting Combine due to some prominent names skipping. Host Aaron Freeman breaks down if other high-end prospects will join QB Caleb Williams (USC), QB Jayden Daniels (LSU), and WR Marvin Harrison Jr. (Ohio State) by opting out and how that might impact Falcons' draft boards. He also discusses why weigh-ins will matter for Daniels and QB J.J. McCarthy (Michigan).

Later, he discusses why he'll be paying extra attention to the 40-yard dash times of most of the wide receivers as part of the Falcons' need to get faster on offense. He also breaks down why the three-cone drill and short shuttle are the most important drills for edge-rushers.

The Atlanta Falcons are expected to be aggressive in their pursuit of a new quarterback this year, which could include trading up in the 2024 NFL Draft for LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels. Host Aaron Freeman breaks down a mock draft from Josh Kendall and others from @TheAthletic that propose such a blockbuster trade. He discusses what the price tag will be and whether or not Daniels is worth it in his eyes.

He also looks at the NFL's increased salary cap of $255.4 million and how this could affect the Falcons' spending during this offseason. He breaks down the potential cap cuts and restructures that could increase the team's cap space and whether the extra flexibility will allow them to be more creative in pursuing impending free agents like Kirk Cousins.
