Locked On Falcons - Daily Podcast On The Atlanta Falcons

As the owner of the Atlanta Falcons, Arthur Blank felt the need to address some things when it came to the process of hiring Raheem Morris. The first thing that he felt passionately about was whether or not he offered Belichick the job. Tenitra Batiste, Tori McElhaney, Jarvis Davis and Aaron Freeman talked about what stood out to them in Blank’s press conference. Secondly, the team discussed how there should be hope for the Falcons after watching Super Bowl 58 last night. The Falcons will have to have an elite level of sustainability if they want to achieve the level of success that the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers have attained. Lastly, the team discussed Usher’s halftime performance, and how he gave the city of Atlanta the performance that they needed.

The Atlanta Falcons are one of the top potential destinations for Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins should he hit the open market this offseason. Host Aaron Freeman is joined by guest Luke Braun (@LockedOnVikings) to discuss the possibility that Cousins makes it to the market and whether or not the Achilles tendon tear he suffered in 2023 will negatively impact his chances to succeed in 2024 and beyond on a new team.

Later, Aaron breaks down why he thinks the Falcons would be preferred destination for Cousins over another suitor like the Pittsburgh Steelers. Finally, he looks at a mock draft from NFL.com's Lance Zierlein where the Falcons trade up for North Carolina QB Drake Maye.

The Atlanta Falcons absolutely nailed it when they signed safety Jessie Bates last offseason. Host Aaron Freeman breaks down how Bates' "unique approach" to coverage rules led to his success as an All-Pro and Pro Bowl safety.

Then, he discusses why the Falcons should be looking for an upgrade at the other starting spot after a disappointing year from Richie Grant. But he explains why Grant still adds value as a reserve and role player, along with DeMarcco Hellams. Later, he breaks down the crop of impending free agents with connections to new coaches Raheem Morris, Jimmy Lake, and Justin Hood.

The Atlanta Falcons cornerback play was up and down throughout the 2023 NFL season. Top cornerback A.J. Terrell struggled a bit with allowing too many explosive plays while Jeff Okudah had a rough November. Host Aaron Freeman breaks down the areas and aspects that Terrell, Okudah, and Clark Phillips must improve upon to get better production from this position group in 2024. He also breaks down whether or not this offseason is the right time to extend Terrell’s contract and how much should his price tag be.

He also breaks down the revolving door opposite Terrell at outside cornerback, and why Okudah and Phillips may not be the preferred options to become a “door stop.” Aaron also breaks down why Phillips’ zone coverage ability might be valuable in a zone-heavy scheme employed under new head coach Raheem Morris and defensive coordinator Jimmy Lake. He looks ahead to the offseason and discusses if the Falcons are poised to find a long-term solution at outside cornerback in free agency or the draft, and whether Okudah, Tre Flowers, and Mike Hughes are poised to return.

The Atlanta Falcons could be in for a new look on defense under head coach Raheem Morris. However, host Aaron Freeman explains why that is unlikely to extend to the team's linebacker corps. He breaks down why Kaden Elliss, despite being a perfect fit in former defensive coordinator Ryan Nielsen's scheme, should have a similar role under Morris and Nielsen's replacement in Jimmy Lake. He looks at Morris' usage of simulated pressures with Los Angeles Rams linebacker Ernest Jones.

Later, he breaks down why Nate Landman despite positive play in 2023 is likely relegated to being a backup moving forward. He discusses why the Falcons' defensive ceiling is higher if Troy Andersen can take over and become a reliable every-down player. Finally, he looks towards the offseason to discuss if the Falcons are going to be targeting depth in the draft or looking to upgrade their starting spot in free agency.

He highlights his thoughts on offensive lineman Jackson Powers-Johnson (Oregon), wide receiver Ladd McConkey (Georgia), defensive end Darius Robinson (Missouri), edge-rusher Laiatu Latu (UCLA), and cornerback Quinyon Mitchell (Toledo). The Atlanta Falcons under new head coach Raheem Morris continue to fill out their coaching staff with new faces and holdovers. Assistant defensive coach Jerry Gray was among the official announcements that are sticking around, and the team has also found a new defensive line coach in Jay Rodgers. Host Aaron Freeman breaks down why these moves should enhance the team's defense both on the back end in the secondary and up front with their defensive line.

Later, he recaps which 2024 NFL Draft prospects stood out on the second day of Senior Bowl practice. With more focus on the trenches, he breaks down the players that he liked on both the offensive and defensive lines in the 1-on-1 matchups, including Oregon center Jackson Powers-Johnson, Miami guard Javion Cohen, and more.

Finally, he discusses which quarterbacks and wide receivers stood out on the second day of practice. He discusses if any passer made up ground on Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. and shines a light on some receivers that could add much-needed speed to the Falcons lineup including Michigan's Roman Wilson, North Carolina's Devontez Walker, and Lousiville's Jamari Thrash.
