Locked On Falcons - Daily Podcast On The Atlanta Falcons

The Atlanta Falcons haven’t decided on their head coach yet, but, now we know for a fact that Ryan Nielsen won’t be on their coaching staff in 2024. The Jacksonville Jaguars have hired Nielsen to be their next defensive coordinator. Tenitra Batiste, Aaron Freeman and Jarvis Davis talked about what the loss of Nielsen means for this team going forward. Secondly, with Bill Belichick completing a second interview with the Falcons and Jim Harbaugh being scheduled for a second interview, the team discussed these two candidates and whether or not they would be a good fit. Lastly, they discussed the possibility of Raheem Morris being a good fit for the Falcons now that he is reportedly scheduled for a second interview in Flowery Branch.

The Atlanta Falcons remained busy over the weekend as they search for their next head coach, interviewing four new candidates with many old and fresh faces to come this week. Host Aaron Freeman discusses the latest on the coaching search and dives into how the Rooney Rule affects the Falcons' timeline and decision-making. He breaks down whether or not there's an increased chance that the Falcons hire their first permanent minority head coach during this cycle.

Later, he looks back at the Falcons' 2023 season and breaks down their quarterback position. He analyzes Desmond Ridder's disappointing, turnover-laden year and why things seemingly regressed in December despite some upside. Finally, he discusses the many directions the Falcons may turn this offseason as they look for a new quarterback both in free agency and the 2024 NFL Draft.

The Atlanta Falcons continue their search for their next head coach while former New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick is poised for his second in-person interview with the team this weekend. Host Aaron Freeman wonders why the Falcons are so eager to go after him before speaking to other top candidates like Ben Johnson, Bobby Slowik, and Raheem Morris. He also discusses why despite defending the decisions of Falcons owner Arthur Blank and president Rich McKay in recent days, he can't any longer if they've settled on Belichick.

Later, he looks at why he thinks Belichick isn't the answer to solve the main issues that have held back the Falcons' last two coaches in Dan Quinn and Arthur Smith. He looks at quarterback development, play-calling, and roster management and how Belichick did an even poorer job fixing those same issues in recent years in New England.

Finally, he looks at the potential quarterback options the Falcons could be looking at this offseason and whether drafting a player or signing a veteran is the best move.

The Atlanta Falcons have decided to allow assistant coaches to interview for vacancies elsewhere in the NFL, including defensive coordinator Ryan Nielsen. This is a shift from a few days ago, which begs the question what exactly changed over the past week. Host Aaron Freeman explains that it likely has nothing to do with the team being closer to hiring a new head coach, but instead may be due to them being further away.

Later, he looks at two potential candidates for the Falcons head coaching vacancy in Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero and San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Steve Wilks. He discusses what these two coaches could do to build on Nielsen's successful defensive turnaround, while also looking at the styles of offense they might need or want in Atlanta.

The Atlanta Falcons officially interviewed former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick for their head coaching vacancy this past Monday. Host Aaron Freeman breaks down why he thinks Belichick is the wrong fit for the Falcons long-term.

Later, he discusses Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan's candidacy and what makes him an attractive option. He breaks down Callahan's past and ability to make in-season adjustments. Finally, he looks back at the Falcons' decision to hire Arthur Smith and whether that was a "win now" move and how such thinking currently influences their pursuit of Belichick and other candidates.

The Atlanta Falcons may look at trending Houston Texans offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik in their search for their next head coach. After the Texans dismantled the Cleveland Browns defense in the wildcard playoffs, host Aaron Freeman discusses why so many people now see Slowik as the next big thing from the Kyle Shanahan-Sean McVay coaching tree.

Later, he discusses the low odds that current Falcons defensive coordinator Ryan Nielsen will be retained by whoever is the next head coach. Finally, he looks at the latest rumors surrounding former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick's next destination, and whether the Dallas Cowboys will pursue him after their playoff embarrassment.

The Atlanta Falcons completed virtual interviews of Mike McDonald, Brian Callahan, Steve Wilks, Ejiro Evero and Anthony Weaver. On this special edition of the Atlanta Football Party, Jarvis Davis and Aaron Freeman talked about the most intriguing candidate out of that first group. Secondly, with so many conversations about who the Falcons will hire as their next head coach, the guys discussed what the mindset should be when it comes to who will be under center for this team. Jarvis and Aaron talked about what they’ve heard so far from Rich McKay and Arthur Blank being the main reason why it is hard to get excited about anything regarding this organization’s future. Lastly, they wrapped things up talking about the Falcons requesting to interview Antonio Pierce for their head coaching spot. Also, Jarvis gave his dream speech for the Falcons.

The Atlanta Falcons made their first interview for their coaching vacancy in Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Mike MacDonald this past Friday. Host Aaron Freeman explains why MacDonald's stock is soaring after transforming the Ravens defense the past two years to the best unit in the league and draws comparisons to Sean McVay and Bill Belichick.

Later, he explains the Falcons' potential timeline for their coaching search and why they may not officially hire anyone until the end of January or the beginning of February. Then he discusses where the Falcons' vacancy stacks compared to the other six openings around the NFL and why the Washington Commanders could be considered the most coveted job.

Finally, he looks ahead to the 2024 NFL Draft and discusses why the Chicago Bears and Commanders won't be trading back, how the Falcons could trade up for a quarterback, and/or stay at the eighth overall selection and pick a stud pass-rusher like Alabama's Dallas Turner.

The Atlanta Falcons have blocked at least three of their current assistant coaches from interviewing with other NFL teams about open jobs: defensive coordinator Ryan Nielsen, offensive line coach Dwayne Ledofrd, and special teams coordinator Marquice Williams. Host Aaron Freeman breaks down why the team may not be willing to let these coaches leave and what that says about their intentions with their head coaching vacancy.

Later, he looks at a potential dark-horse candidate for that vacancy in Baltimore Ravens defensive line coach Anthony Weaver, who is scheduled to be among the first interviewees this weekend. He breaks down why Weaver could be the right target for the Falcons to fix their culture.

Finally, he reviews the film from the Falcons' Week 18 loss to the New Orleans Saints, discussing quarterback Desmond Ridder's up-and-down performance and issues involving the team's play-calling, blocking, and coverages.

The Atlanta Falcons announced eight candidates that they'd like to interview for their head coaching vacancy. Host Aaron Freeman and guest Jarvis Davis (@LockedOnATL) discuss which candidates stand out, specifically Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris and why a reunion in Atlanta makes sense.

Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan, Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero, Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, Houston Texans offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik, Baltimore Ravens defensive line coach Anthony Weaver, and San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Steve Wilks are the seven others on the Falcons' radar.

Later, they discuss why they're surprised to see Univesity of Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh not on that list and debate why they're not in love with the idea of former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick heading south to Atlanta.
