Locked On Falcons - Daily Podcast On The Atlanta Falcons

The Atlanta Falcons are looking for a new head coach but general manager Terry Fontenot seems to be taking a back seat. Host Aaron Freeman breaks down why he believes Fontenot shouldn't be the point man compared to owner Arthur Blank and president Rich McKay by looking at how other NFL organizations are structured.

Later, he discusses why the Falcons seem to constantly come up short under Blank and McKay's leadership and whether they're at fault for it. Then, he looks at whether the bets on quarterback Desmond Ridder and the run game were the biggest factors in the downfall of head coach Arthur Smith.

The Atlanta Falcons are undergoing another search for their next head coach after firing Arthur Smith earlier this week. Host Aaron Freeman breaks down the pros and cons of three of the hottest names in this year's cycle: Ben Johnson, Jim Harbaugh, and Bill Belichick.

He explains how Johnson as the Detroit Lions offensive coordinator could build a better version of the Arthur Smith offense but will have to deal with potentially too many similarities to the former Falcons coach. He discusses how Harbaugh is a "program builder" in his past both in college and pros and how he is known for taking teams to that next level. But also has too many vibes similar to former Falcons coach Bobby Petrino. And finally he breaks down how despite being recognized as the greatest coach ever, Belichick has essentially run the New England Patriots into the ground in recent years.

Arthur Blank decided to relieve Arthur Smith of his duties as the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons. Tenitra, Aaron and Jarvis talked about how the loss to their NFC South rival, the New Orleans Saints, played into that decision. Secondly, they discussed what went wrong in the Arthur Smith era. Ultimately, the mishandling of the departure of Matt Ryan was where it started. Then, deciding to go with a first round bust in Marcus Mariota. Also, the non-development of Desmond Ridder as the season went along played a factor as well. Lastly, they discussed who their dream pick would be to be the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons.

The Atlanta Falcons dismissed head coach Arthur Smith in the wee hours of Monday morning after the end of their 2023 season after a third consecutive 7-10 record. Host Aaron Freeman and guest Jeff Schultz (formerly @TheAthletic) discuss where things went astray for Smith, considering his job security was considered safe a few months ago.

They also discuss the Falcons current process involving team president Rich McKay and owner Arthur Blank with finding a new coach, discuss the rumors linking the team to current New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick as Smith's successor, and whether getting the head coach hire right is a "crapshoot."

Could trading up for Caleb Williams or Drake Maye be in the stars for the Falcons? What about pursuing head coach Bill Belichick? Aaron Freeman of Locked On Falcons breaks it all down.

The Atlanta Falcons ended the year in fitting fashion in a 48-17 blowout loss to the New Orleans Saints. It could be the final note in the tenure of head coach Arthur Smith with quarterback Desmond Ridder and the rest of the team laying an egg after a promising first half. Host Aaron Freeman breaks down where things went wrong in this season finale.

Later, he discusses whether or not Smith will return and breaks down the decision of owner Arthur Blank on that front. Will he be given another chance to find a quarterback or will the team look for a fresh approach after a lackluster offensive year? Aaron also breaks down the multitude of other holes the Falcons will need to address this offseason on offense and defense beyond simply making changes at head coach and quarterback.
