Locked On Falcons - Daily Podcast On The Atlanta Falcons

The Atlanta Falcons will have to debate on who their next quarterback will be, and it may come down to either Minnesota Vikings QB Kirk Cousins or Chicago Bears QB Justin Fields. Host Aaron Freeman breaks down why he thinks the logical answer is Cousins over Fields due to the perceived pressure to win, scheme fit, and an overall belief in the player.

Later, he discusses why the Falcons should avoid similar pitfalls of adding either Fields or Cousins as some recent NFC South rivals did. He discusses the parallels between the Falcons trading for Fields and the Carolina Panthers trading for Sam Darnold three years ago and those between signing Cousins and the New Orleans Saints signing Derek Carr last year.

Finally, he looks ahead to the 2024 NFL Draft to discuss a pair of defensive tackles from Texas in Byron Murphy II and T'Vondre Sweat. He breaks down why he thinks Murphy could be a sleeper for the Falcons to take in the first round and how his game mirrors that of Grady Jarrett and why he's not sold on Sweat as anything more than a two-down plugger.

The Atlanta Falcons hired a universally beloved man and coach in Raheem Morris last month. Host Aaron Freeman is joined by guest Travis Rodgers (@LockedOnRams) to shed even more light on why the ex-Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator is so well liked and what was the identify of his defenses the past three seasons.

Travis and Aaron also speculate on what new Falcons offensive coordinator Zac Robinson's offense might look like and why Sean McVay is the best coach in the NFL. Later, Aaron looks at six players that are potential cap cuts for the Falcons this offseason: defensive tackle Grady Jarrett, kicker Younghoe Koo, quarterback Taylor Heinicke, cornerback Mike Hughes, tight end Jonnu Smith, and outside linebacker Lorenzo Carter.

The Atlanta Falcons are a strong candidate to sign impending Minnesota Vikings free-agent quarterback Kirk Cousins this offseason. Host Aaron Freeman and guest Cory Woodroof (@usatodaysports) discuss the possibility that Cousins' post-career interests in business and desire to connect with Falcons owner Arthur Blank could be a deciding factor in bringing him to Atlanta.

Cory also shares his thoughts on the team's new coaching staff led by Raheem Morris and how the sense of urgency to win sooner versus later could affect the Falcons' future. Later, he discusses why he thinks the Falcons secondary, tight end, and center positions are under-the-radar team needs.

The Atlanta Falcons intend to leave no stone unturned when it comes to finding a new starting quarterback, which may include adding some imperfect solutions including current Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson. Host Aaron Freeman breaks down why the Broncos will certainly part ways with Wilson and why he could be an option for the Falcons looking for a cheap, veteran player. But he expresses his skepticism on Wilson's potential fit in the Zac Robinson-led Falcons offense.

Later, he discusses why Wilson's wife Ciara and her ex, Future, might prevent him from being fully embraced by the city of Atlanta. He also breaks down why Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Baker Mayfield could be a potential option given his background working with Robinson in Los Angeles, and whether or not a new team might not get the same results. He also discusses Rams QB Carson Wentz's performance in their 2023 season finale, and whether he's an option to start or be a backup for the Falcons.

The Atlanta Falcons have a big decision to make in May when they will have to make a decision on Kyle Pitts’ fifth-year option. Raheem Morris will have to assess what Pitts has done on the football field and the injuries he has had to deal with as well. Tenitra Batiste, Tori McElhaney, Aaron Freeman and Jarvis Davis talked about whether or not the Falcons should pick up that year that is worth 10.5 million dollars. Secondly, the team discussed quarterbacks coach T.J. Yates comments about the quarterback position. The Falcons have one priority in 2024 and that is to get a quality starting quarterback. Also, the Falcons aren’t hiding the fact that they are looking for one, starting with Arthur Blank. Lastly, they discussed how the Falcons may be the team to finally get out of this rut of mediocrity that is Atlanta sports outside of the Atlanta Braves.

The Atlanta Falcons can find a possible answer at quarterback in the 2024 NFL Draft by selecting Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy. Host Aaron Freeman goes through a recent mock draft from Benjamin Solak (@theringer) that had the Falcons selecting McCarthy with the eighth overall selection. Aaron breaks down why McCarthy's stock is on the rise, why he'll be inevitable compared to Desmond Ridder, but also why he thinks McCarthy is a better bet than some other alternative options like Justin Fields.

Later, he looks at alternative selections in the first round of the draft including Alabama edge-rusher Dallas Turner and LSU wide receiver Malik Nabers. Finally, he answers a listener question about whether or not there needs to changes in how teams should evaluate QBs based on this year's postseason results.

The Atlanta Falcons new offensive coordinator Zac Robinson and defensive coordinator Jimmy Lake spoke to the media for the first time on Wednesday. Host Aaron Freeman and guest Jarvis Davis (@LockedOnATL) break down their biggest takeaways including the news that the defense will be reverting back to a 3-4 defensive front under Lake. They discuss how that scheme change will help young players like Arnold Ebiketie, DeAngelo Malone, Zach Harrison, but may hurt veterans like Grady Jarrett and David Onyemata.

They also discuss the team's need to bolster their depth along the interior of the defensive line and whether or not the draft or free agency is the best avenue to do so. Later, they break down Robinson's comments about the team's need at quarterback and whether soon-to-be-traded Chicago Bears passer Justin Fields, or some other player best fits the role.

The Atlanta Falcons are looking for the right fits for their team under new head coach Raheem Morris and offensive coordinator Zac Robinson, especially at quarterback. Host Aaron Freeman and guest Trevor Sikkema (@NFLStockExchange) break down the top four quarterbacks in the 2024 NFL Draft: Caleb Williams (Southern California), Drake Maye (North Carolina), Jayden Daniels (LSU), and J.J. McCarthy (Michigan) and their potential to work in Atlanta's offense.

Later, they look at positions of need for the Falcons beyond the quarterback position that could be in the mix for their first round pick. Trevor discusses two premier wide receivers in Malik Nabers (LSU) and Rome Odunze (Washington), and three pass-rushers: Dallas Turner (Alabama), Jared Verse (Florida State), and Byron Murphy II (Texas). Trevor also breaks down a sleeper in Iowa defensive back Cooper DeJean, who could be a versatile Jalen Ramsey-esque playmaker in the Falcons secondary. Finally, they look at Day 2 prospects that could fit the Falcons at wide receiver, edge rusher, and defensive tackle in the second or third rounds.

The Atlanta Falcons are looking for a new quarterback, and Chicago Bears QB Justin Fields is a big name that is expected to be traded. Host Aaron Freeman is joined by guest Lorin Cox (@LockedOnBears) to discuss Fields' trade value and potential fit in Atlanta. They break down whether Fields' running ability or passing potential will be the key to continued improvement.

Later, Aaron discusses why he went from someone that advocated for the Falcons to draft Fields in 2021, to being lukewarm on trading for him in 2024. He argues why the Falcons could justify a Fields trade along similar lines as their justifications for Marcus Mariota and Desmond Ridder in recent years. He also breaks down why he thinks Fields won't be atop their wishlist, but what would need to occur for the Falcons to pick up the phone with the Bears.

The Atlanta Falcons need to upgrade their quarterback in an offseason where there is pressure on new head coach Raheem Morris to win immediately. Host Aaron Freeman picks the brain of guest Josh Kendall (@TheAthletic) to see which direction the team might go including Kirk Cousins, Justin Fields, and Jacoby Brissett. They also discuss the possibility of the team drafting a rookie to plug in at quarterback including LSU's Jayden Daniels.

Later, they discuss the biggest priorities the Falcons need to address this offseason that aren't the quarterback position including defensive end, cornerback, and wide receiver. Josh also shares his thoughts on whether or not Morris' likeability will translate directly on the field. Finally, they discuss the potential futures of cornerback A.J. Terrell and tight end Kyle Pitts in terms of whether contract extensions and fifth-year options are on the horizon.
