Locked On Falcons - Daily Podcast On The Atlanta Falcons

The Atlanta Falcons have renamed Desmond Ridder their starting quarterback during their bye week. Host Aaron Freeman breaks down what this means for Ridder, the team, and the rest of the season.

Later, he breaks down his "way too early" 2024 NFL Mock Draft predicting all 32 picks in the upcoming first round. He discusses why Georgia tight end Brock Bowers makes sense as his projection for the Atlanta Falcons at the top of the first round, and why the team didn't go with a pass rusher or quarterback.

The Atlanta Falcons' defensive investments from this past offseason have seemingly paid off with a much-improved unit. Host Aaron Freeman breaks down each position group during the bye week to assess how far they've come this year and what's left to see in the final seven games of the 2023 NFL season.

He breaks down the team's underwhelming pass rush, looking at the lack of reliable pressure coming from the team's edge rushers, and how the interior defensive line has done its best to make up for it. Later, he discusses Nate Landman's emergence and how that impacts the future at linebacker. Finally, he discusses the strength of the team's secondary and whether Jeff Okudah and A.J. Terrell have both earned big contracts this upcoming offseason. He also discusses ways the team can offset Richie Grant's disappointing play so far this year.

The Atlanta Falcons offense has been disappointing in too many ways through the first 10 games of the 2023 NFL season. Host Aaron Freeman reviews each offensive position group during the bye week, looking back at what has been and what is ahead.

He discusses if Desmond Ridder's play has disappointed due to his benching, and whether turnovers and other negative plays have overshadowed the progress he's made as a first-year starter. Then, he discusses the disappointing running game and whether it's owed to the regression of the offensive line. He breaks down Bijan Robinson's rookie season, Tyler Allgeier's contributions, and looks at each starting offensive lineman. Finally, he looks at the Falcons' receivers and whether Drake London and Kyle Pitts have disappointed given their potential. He also looks at the mid-season depth chart shift at wide receiver, Jonnu Smith's ability after the catch, and the blocking of MyCole Pruitt.

He also looks forward to what the team may do at each position group this offseason.

Atlanta Falcons head coach Arthur Smith need to get their season back on track and it's likely going to rely on improved play from quarterback Desmond Ridder for the remainder of the season. Host Aaron Freeman looks back at Smith's play-calling in the loss to the Arizona Cardinals to break down why Smith had little trust in Ridder's replacement: Taylor Heinicke. He breaks down why he thinks Ridder will be back as the starter after the bye week and how Smith's job security is tied not only to the team's but Ridder's success. He discusses how Smith won't be able to make a convincing pitch about the future of the Falcons quarterback position without Ridder's play improving down the stretch.

Later, he discusses whether or not the Falcons should consider benching safety Richie Grant after a rough outing vs. the Cardinals. He also breaks down Frank Darby's contributions to the Greg Dortch's big punt return that turned the game in Arizona's favor.

After having some time to think about it, the Atlanta Football Party decided to take another shot at figuring out what’s wrong with the Atlanta Falcons. Kyler Murray led his team on a game winning drive to defeat the Falcons 25-23. Arthur Smith found a way to get Bijan Robinson the football, but the passing game was putrid. Tenitra, Tori, Aaron and Jarvis talked about their overall takeaway from the Falcons third straight loss. Secondly, Desmond Ridder came in for Taylor Heinicke due to a hamstring injury. Ridder was able to take the lead in the fourth quarter, but the Falcons’ defense wasn’t able to hold them in the end. The team talked about how Murray looked comfortable in the pocket for most of the game. Lastly, the team discussed what Smith has to do now that they have a bye week before playing the New Orleans Saints.

The Atlanta Falcons lost to the lowly Arizona Cardinals. Kyler Murray made his season debut against the Falcons in another “get right” game. Taylor Heinicke was having a mediocre performance until he got hurt, and Desmond Ridder entered the game. Tenitra Batiste, Aaron Freeman and Jarvis Davis tried to make sense of what happened in Arizona.

The team did find one positive when they talked about how Arthur Smith fed Bijan Robinson the football on their two touchdown drives in the first half. Lastly, they wrapped things up by talking about if Smith has lost the locker room.
