Locked On Falcons - Daily Podcast On The Atlanta Falcons

The Atlanta Falcons are expecting big things for rookie running back Bijan Robinson in 2023. Is one of those things potentially leading the entire NFL in rushing? Host Aaron Freeman breaks down a recent projection for Robinson that predicted as much and how plausible it is. Could Robinson's explosive running ability put on him on a similar path as a young Adrian Peterson?

Later, Aaron discusses Robinson's potential impact in the passing game. Will Bijan's highlight-reel plays from training camp will translate into the regular season? Will Falcons head coach Arthur Smith utilize Robinson in the same or different ways as he did Cordarrelle Patterson in 2021?

Finally, Aaron answers a pair of listener questions about the plausibility of Robinson reaching 2,000 yards from scrimmage this year, and if there's a future where Tyler Allgeier hits record production this year. That discussion includes whether a deep postseason run for the Falcons should be on anybody's radar at this point in the calendar.

The Atlanta Falcons have upped the levels of competitiveness in training camp this year compared to previous years. At least according to guest Josh Kendall (@TheAthletic). He joins host Aaron Freeman to discuss the first day of padded practice for the team this summer and breaks down which players have stood out with less than a week of camp underway.

They discuss the team’s wide receiver depth, improved defensive line, key position battles, and the pecking order in the secondary, and head coach Arthur Smith’s affinity for Desmond Ridder’s “grittiness” and work ethic. They also break down Ridder’s ranking in The Athletic’s QB tiers.

The Atlanta Falcons 2023 NFL Draft class of rookies have gotten off to an impressive starter to training camp. Running back Bijan Robinson, guard Matthew Bergeron, defensive end Zach Harrison, and cornerback Clark Phillips have all earned praise from observers and coaches for their early camp contributions. Host Aaron Freeman breaks down what is impressive about each, including if Matt Hennessy’s injury helps Bergeron’s bid to be the team’s Week 1 starter at left guard, if Harrison’s success means the Falcons have an offensive line depth issue, and if Phillips can close the gap on presumptive favorite Dee Alford at nickel cornerback.

Later, he discusses the latest on defensive end Calais Campbell’s potential return to the practice field. Then, he breaks down the second (and final) departure of defensive tackle Eddie Goldman, Justin Ellis’ potential to fill Goldman’s shoes, if edge-rusher Kemoko Turay can live up to his potential, and running back Godwin Igwebuike’s role moving forward.

The Atlanta Falcons have an open competition for their vacant left guard position between veteran Matt Hennessy and rookie Matthew Bergeron. Host Aaron Freeman is joined by guest Jarvis Davis (@LockedOnATL) to discuss how heated that competition will become. With Hennessy getting the starting reps on the first day of camp, Jarvis discusses whether Bergeron can begin to make up ground when the pads come on.

Later, they discuss the Falcons secondary and whether additions like safety Jessie Bates and cornerback Jeff Okudah will stabilize a unit that has been a revolving door the past few years outside cornerback A.J. Terrell. They discuss the ongoing competition at nickel cornerback and whether Jaylinn Hawkins will have a significant role as third safety.

Finally, they take an in-depth look at Arthur Smith's new mustache.

The Atlanta Falcons held their first practice of 2023 training camp, and host Aaron Freeman breaks down what exactly he was and will be paying attention to each day during the summer. He discusses why training camp is less about the daily individual standouts in practice and rather the long-term trends that help players make a bid for the 53-man roster.

Later, he discusses if Jalen Mayfield's return at right tackle helps or hurts his chances of making the roster. Finally, he discusses the unknowns surrounding new defensive coordinator Ryan Nielsen and whether he'll be the one play-caller that can turn around the Falcons' defense.

The Atlanta Falcons improved their pass rush this offseason in free agency with several key additions. How much it improved remains to be seen. Host Aaron Freeman shares his projections for the team's sack total in 2023, and discusses how players like Arnold Ebiketie, Grady Jarrett, Kaden Elliss, and Calais Campbell could raise the ceiling considerably this year.

Later, he discusses the Falcons roster moves on Tuesday, including re-signing veteran tight end MyCole Pruitt, cutting running back Caleb Huntley, and placing Campbell on the Non-Football Injury List.

Finally, he answers a listener question on whether or not the Falcons need more to sign more pass-rush help in free agency.

The Atlanta Falcons’ biggest offensive addition this offseason was 2023 first-round running back Bijan Robinson. It has led to a lot of hype surrounding Robinson’s potential production this year. Host Aaron Freeman explains why he thinks Robinson will live up to the hype, yet will still share a significant amount of the workload with second-year running back Tyler Allgeier.

Later, he breaks down the Falcons' potential to be more explosive on offense. Will the talent alone can get the Falcons where they want to be in terms of explosiveness? Or does head coach Arthur Smith's play-calling need to take another step?

Finally, Aaron discusses the looming competition at left guard between rookie Matthew Bergeron and veteran Matt Hennessy. He discusses expectations for both players should they win the battle.

The Atlanta Falcons have a serious concern at wide receiver, at least when it comes to what they eventually want their offense to evolve into. Host Aaron Freeman explains why he continues to talk about the Falcons acquiring current New York Jets wide receiver Corey Davis, despite all public statements from the latter suggesting he is not and never will be available. He breaks down why Hollins is a serviceable "bridge" or "stopgap" option for the team currently at wide receiver, but how that eventually will change in the future.

Later, he discusses the current state of the running back position in the NFL in terms of compensation and draft value. Why have running backs been devalued and will the pendulum swing back. Finally, he answers a couple of listener questions pitting Green Day and Blink-182 against each other and his thoughts on polar bears.

The Atlanta Falcons may be looking to upgrade their wide receiver corps, and the New York Jets might have several options to offer. News broke Wednesday that they are planning on parting ways with former 2020 second-round pick Denzel Mims, but host Aaron Freeman explains why the Falcons should just be patient and wait for them to dump Corey Davis.

Later, he answers listener questions, including whether or not re-signing Julio Jones is a bad idea and why the team didn't draft a wide receiver in the 2023 NFL Draft. He also breaks down the Falcons' playoff expectations and if that'll still be the case if backup quarterback Taylor Heinicke saw extended action. Other topics include if Tyler Allgeier or Cordarrelle Patterson are more likely to vulture touchdowns from Bijan Robinson, which players he'll be watching at this summer's training camp, and if practices against Drake London and Kyle Pitts will help rookie cornerback Clark Phillips improve his game.
