Locked On Flyers - Daily Podcast On The Philadelphia Flyers

The Flyers finally picked a sniper, he just wasn’t on anyone’s list. But that’s okay, because we love our new Flyers boy anyway! After we got over our shock, we discuss the pro’s and con’s of drafting Tyson Foerster and what he brings to the Flyers organization. We also answer some draft questions, like who were we surprised fell or jumped higher than we expected? Nashville picked Askarov and the Metro got better, but how much better?

In pre-draft news we were NOT expecting, Matt Niskanen has decided to retire from hockey! We wish him well, but that creates a gap on our blue line and some interesting cap implications. We discuss our internal options at defense, as well as possible free agent targets for the slot, including Alex Pietrangelo, Torey Krug, Tyson Barrie, Kevin Shattenkirk and more. The Flyers took immediate steps and re-signed Justin Braun at 1.8 AAV and we rate that contract as well. Then we turn our attention to tonight's NHL Draft. Who do we think the Flyers will pick at 23? Who do we want them to pick? What are our other predictions for the draft?

The Moose is back! We touch on the Flyers loaning a goalie and re-signing a goalie. Was signing Elliot the best move for the Flyers? Should they’ve explored the saturated goaltending market? Danielle and Rachel take a look at the market and discuss Lehner’s deal, what that means for Fleury and if Dallas is serious about Khudobin. As well as look at what teams are willing to take a chance on Markstrom and Holtby and what their deals could look like. We wrap up with our Nemesis of the Week and Flyers fun thing!

Brent Flahr met with the media heading into the draft, so in today’s episode we are going to discuss what he said and try to decipher his comments to see who might be on the top of the Flyers draft board. One thing is for sure, the Flyers are drafting the best player available no matter the position. We also touch on the different ways the scouts had to watch players and how that might’ve benefitted the Flyers draft list. Lastly, we discuss a Flyers connection that could fall in the their lap, depending on their board.

Today, Rachel & Danielle tackle a couple of controversies that hit the NHL this week. First, we discuss the Price to Pay video produced by the NHL that seems to glorify playing through injury, while TSN puts out a documentary on the harm caused to players by treatments from teams to get their guys back out on the ice quickly. ESPN also did some digging into the true realities of the NHL playoff bubble, with some surprising results! Then we switch gears and discuss draft strategy for the Flyers. What kind of pick should they go for in Round 1?
