Locked On Guardians - Daily Podcast On The Cleveland Guardians

The Guardians took three of four games in Oakland to start the 2024 season.

We get into some of the miscues of the Sunday loss and not taking advantage of being given the game, but also the good and the bad from the first three wins of the series.

Shane Bieber's new changeup and best performance since?

Andres Gimenez hot start.

Tyler Freeman settling in nicely at the plate and in CF.

Overall strong bullpen performance.

Struggles with starter length and some early bullpen overuse.

Looking ahead to the Guardians series with the Mariners.

After a long wait the Cleveland Guardians 2024 season finally got underway in Oakland. Shane Bieber looked in vintage form early and the offense got off to a good start.

We weren't able to record reactions for the full game due to the late start, but we discussed the intrigue of the opening lineup, the platoons and flexibility, but also one hitter who should hit higher.

We also discuss the additions of Peter Strzelecki and Zak Kent to their pitching depth and why we think these additions can help in 2024 and maybe beyond.

A few Guardians minor leaguers got cut at the end of spring training, so we give them their due as players and wish them some luck.

As we wait another day for regular season baseball for the Cleveland Guardians, we continue to wrap up our 2024 position preview series with first base.

Can Josh Naylor repeat his 2023 success and stay healthy? Will he sign an extension?

When will Kyle Manzardo arrive? What other first-base prospects do the Guardians have in the system?

Of course, we talk about some of the first base draft prospects in this year's class - Nick Kurtz, Blake Burke, Aiden Harris, Derek Bender, Jac Cagliaone, and more.

It was a big weekend in college baseball with Travis Bazzana and Charlie Condon making headlines with big games. After not being able to get to it Monday, we give a college baseball/MLB Draft weekend update on the battle for the Guardians top pick as conference play begins.

We also discuss some other good performances over the weekend including Corey Collins, Luke Holman, Kavares Tears, and Brian Holiday. We also get into some more interesting Jac Cagliaone data.

And we put our 3rd base position preview for the Guardians into the second half of this episode, because what more can we say about Jose Ramirez other than he's great and how many more great years does he have left? We debate that, talk about the lack of third-base prospects in the system and some potential draft prospects at that position as well.

Myles Straw was reportedly placed on waivers by the Cleveland Guardians as they set their initial 26 man roster to start the 2024 season. How did the Guardians arrive at this move now and what it mean for Straw and other players like Tyler Freeman and Estevan Florial. Also, is the influence in the clubhouse as much as we previously thought?

We also get to why neither Kyle Manzardo and Deyvison De Los Santos didn't make the initial roster.

We're under a week away from MLB (US) Opening Day. We talked on Thursday about roster decisions that were going to have to be made soon. On today's episode, we make those decisions. We try to predict what the Cleveland Guardians Opening Day roster will be, and we also compare it to who we would put on the Opening Day roster.

We also get to your mailbag questions including if there will be another late-spring roster clearing trade, and a few draft questions about a recent guest on the show and the 1-1 pick.

Thanks for your questions and listening! Leave a review and share with a friend!

Opening Day is just a week away. And while we say it's sort of an artificial deadline, it does have some effect on roster decisions leading up to the announcement of the Opening Day roster.

Birthday boy today, Carlos Carrasco, has an opt out in his contract for this weekend and Tyler Beede is able to opt out if he's told he's not on the Opening Day roster. What will the decision be for those two arms with Cleveland's current injury situation?

We also discuss not overhyping spring training performances and taking stats too seriously, and that includes everyone's prospect fixation, Chase DeLauter.

Also discussed is the Twins recent pitching injury news, Guardians minor league injury news, and some recent cuts from the minor league roster in Cleveland's system of significance.

We've talked a lot about the Cleveland Guardians bullpen over the last week because of the injuries to Trevor Stephan, James Karinchak and Sam Hentges.

How will those injuries impact the Guardians bullpen in 2024? We discuss that in our position preview of the bullpen.

Will Clase and Scott Barlow finish the year in the Guardians bullpen? Will Cleveland reduce Clase's workload?

Can Eli Morgan have a better second half?

Who will step up into a high leverage role?

Will Franco Aleman or Andrew Walters debut first?

Which other prospect relievers should you keep an eye on in the Guardians system and in the draft this year?
