We also watched a lot of college baseball over the weekend and shared our thoughts from top performers that could be 1.1 picks for the Guardians, as well as some other interesting names down the board.

It's a mailbag edition of Locked on Guardians! You guys asked how the Guardians will manage to shake out the shortstop situation in spring training, how to get playing time, and evaluations of Gabriel Arias, Brayan Rocchio, and Tyler Freeman. You also asked about which Non-roster invitees look to be the favorites to make the Opening Day roster. Another listener also asked to predict who the top three offensive performers will be among Guardians prospects in 2024 by wRC+. We also got a great question about how MLB teams evaluate high school and amateur players with wood bats vs. aluminum.

And at the end of the show, we discuss some of the interesting matchup on the opening weekend of D1 college baseball, including games and potential Guardians draft prospects to watch.

We also briefly discuss Devyison De Los Santos as a possible OF option and some of the additional NRI's and extra prospects in camp to get excited about!

Division I College Baseball starts on Friday, so it's time to watch for the players the Cleveland Guardians could pick at 1.1 this July. Baseball America's lead draft writer, Carlos Callazo joins us to talk about how the 2024 class doesn't have a clear-cut option at 1.1 and there are more than just three players to consider with the top pick coming into the season.

We talked about JJ Wetherholt's ability to play shortstop, if Nick Kurtz has what it takes to be worth the risk at 1.1 for Cleveland, other players that could be in that conversation like Vance Honeycutt, Seaver King, Mike Sirota, and Jac Cagliaone.

We also touched a little on Chase Burns and the lack of a Paul Skenes type arm in this class, as well as if the Guardians strategy will change with the #1 overall pick and how they will decide to use their bonus pool.

Baseball Prospectus's Russell Carleton's fun Twitter prompt, picking one player from each season between 1998-2023 (26 seasons) to make a 26-man roster, with no repeated players and no repeated seasons, inspired us to do a draft! So we drafted a player from every single season from 1998-2023 in Cleveland history to build a coherent 26-man roster, without repeating names and seasons. Once a player was off the board, the other person couldn't take another season of that player.

Let us know who picked the best team!

We saw late last week some of the results from Shane Bieber's work at Driveline this offseason. The data looks encouraging, but what does it actually mean for Bieber's 2024 season and what does he need to do to get back to the best version of himself?

There were some silly rumors about the Phillies interest in Emmanuel Clase last week and we touch on that situation a bit.

The Guardians do have a 40-man roster situation is a little cloudy, but does that mean they're going to stash Daniel Espino on the 60-day IL? We debate, and how good the Guardians rotation could really be and why there are so many caveats.

And we are 44 days from spring training, so we talked about some of our favorite Cleveland players who have worn 44.

18:20 Guardians 40-man roster/Daniel Espino situation

23:51 How good can the Guardians' rotation be?

With Corey Kluber retiring last week, we are taking this episode to remember his legacy in Cleveland, how it all started for Kluber after the trade to Cleveland, and his place in team history. We discussed how he started the run of pitching dominance in Cleveland, how he got there, where he ranks in team history, and we shared your favorite memories of his time here.

We're leaning heavily into the MLB Draft this year for the Guardians and were joined by College of Charleson star Cole Mathis. Cole had a breakout year in college in 2023, continued his success on the Cape Cod League circuit last summer, and has seen his name rising among draft circles for the year ahead. He talks about his success in 2023 and on the Cape Cod League, as well as his dad, Sammie, being drafted by Cleveland in 1995, and wanting to coach and be a teacher. We also talk with Cole about being a two-way player, his approach at the plate, his favorite players and team growing up, how he unwinds from baseball, and his pick for the 2024 Super Bowl.

And with 6 days to go until pitchers and catchers report to spring training, we talk about the history of #6 in Cleveland baseball history and why it's up to Brayan Rocchio to restore greatness to the number.
