The San Antonio Spurs are headed to the NBA Finals after beating the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 7, and the result could have major implications for the Miami Heat’s offseason star chase. Wes Goldberg and David Ramil discuss whether OKC’s disappointing finish — and Chet Holmgren’s rough Game 7 — could push the Thunder into the Giannis Antetokounmpo sweepstakes and potentially complicate Miami’s plans.

Then, the guys look at the New York Knicks’ run to the NBA Finals and ask what the Heat can learn from how New York built a contender without tanking. Is there a team-building blueprint Miami can follow as the league changes its lottery rules? Plus, Wes and David open the Cookie Gang mailbag to discuss realistic trade packages for Ja Morant or Kawhi Leonard, the futures of Chris Quinn, Pat Riley and Erik Spoelstra, and the debate around OKC’s alleged flopping in the Western Conference Finals.

It’s mailbag Friday on Locked On Heat, and Wes Goldberg and David Ramil are answering your biggest Miami Heat offseason questions. First, the guys break down the NBA’s new lottery reform and anti-tanking rules, including how the proposed “3-2-1” system could increase the value of Heat draft picks and change the way Miami approaches a potential star trade for Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Then, they get into what the Heat would realistically have to give up for Giannis. If Miami moves Tyler Herro, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kel’el Ware, the No. 13 pick and future first-rounders, how would the Heat build around a Bam Adebayo-Giannis superstar duo? Is there any path to keeping Ware, or would trading the farm be unavoidable? Plus, the mailbag asks whether Miami can find its own version of Alex Caruso, with names like Kris Dunn, Devin Carter, Herb Jones and Gary Payton II discussed as defensive-minded options. Subscribe to Locked On Heat for daily Miami Heat news, trade rumors, offseason analysis and mailbag episodes.

Miami Heat fans face the ultimate "Would You Rather?"—guaranteed 58-win seasons with Giannis Antetokounmpo, or a risky tank and two top-five draft picks promising an uncertain future. Wes Goldberg and David Ramil debate the high-stakes scenarios, from trading Bam Adebayo to hypothetical MVP campaigns, and challenge each other's team-building philosophies.

The conversation heats up with rapid-fire challenges: Would you pick Kawhi Leonard or Ja Morant if Giannis slips away? Is Tyler Herro worth a $35 million extension, or should Jaime Jaquez Jr. be traded for lesser returns? The hosts even weigh the cost of a LeBron James farewell tour if it means inheriting Kyrie Irving’s contract, and whether swapping Erik Spoelstra for Donovan Mitchell shifts Miami’s title odds. Packed with player analysis, franchise-altering hypotheticals, and insights into Heat culture, this episode delivers a must-listen for fans weighing the franchise’s next move.

Miami Heat weigh draft-night options as Labaron Philon’s "Heat culture" credentials and unique guard skills put him on the radar. Can Philon's relentless motor and rebounding vault him into the same tier as Keaton Wagler and Darius Acuff, or will concerns over physical measurables see him slip to Miami at pick 13?

Wes Goldberg and NBA draft expert Nathan Grubel examine Yaxel Lendenborg’s potential as a top-tier, versatile forward and debate the upside hidden in older prospects like Jaime Jaquez Jr. and Kel'el Ware. The episode covers Miami’s recent draft patterns—positional size, rebounding, and versatility—while spotlighting sleeper picks such as Christian Anderson and Isaiah Evans. How might Erik Spoelstra and Pat Riley approach a possible move up the board, and where does Miami’s pick stack up in value amidst NIL-era uncertainty? Insightful draft analysis, team-building strategy, and Heat organization trends come sharply into focus.

The Miami Heat’s offseason star hunt is heating up. Wes Goldberg and David Ramil react to recent reporting from Marc Stein and Bill Simmons that Giannis Antetokounmpo may be most interested in playing for either the Boston Celtics or Miami Heat. What does that mean for Pat Riley’s pursuit of a franchise-changing star, and how realistic is Miami’s path to a Giannis trade?

Then, the guys discuss how the Cleveland Cavaliers getting swept could impact Donovan Mitchell’s future. Mitchell said he believes in Cleveland’s group, but should the Heat still be monitoring the situation? Wes and David play Buy or Sell on Giannis vs. Donovan Mitchell as Miami’s better star target. Plus, the Locked On Heat mailbag opens with Cookie Gang questions: when is the earliest a Giannis trade could happen, and is there any realistic version of a Giannis deal where the Heat keep Tyler Herro? The Miami Heat hold the No. 13 pick in the NBA Draft, and this year’s guard class could give them a chance to add the shot creation they’ve been missing. Wes Goldberg and David Ramil break down the top guards who could be in range — or potentially fall — including Keaton Wagler, Darius Acuff Jr., Kingston Flemings, Brayden Burries and Mikel Brown Jr.

Which of those prospects would Heat fans most want to see slide to Miami? The guys discuss who brings the best scoring upside, who can create offense, and who makes the most sense next to Bam Adebayo as the Heat look to build a more dynamic roster. Then, Wes and David take a closer look at Alabama guard Labaron Philon, who reportedly worked out for the Heat in Miami and has been mocked to Miami by ESPN. Could Philon’s shot creation make him the right pick at No. 13, or are there questions about his ability to run an NBA offense?

Kel’el Ware might be the Miami Heat’s most fascinating offseason question. Wes Goldberg and David Ramil take a deep dive into Ware’s potential, what he showed as a rookie, and how high his ceiling could really be. Could Ware eventually become a top-10 center in the NBA? The guys compare him to the league’s best bigs, including Nikola Jokic, Victor Wembanyama, Chet Holmgren, Bam Adebayo, Evan Mobley, Karl-Anthony Towns, Jalen Duren, Alperen Sengun, Rudy Gobert, Joel Embiid, Jarrett Allen and more.

Then, Wes and David discuss how Erik Spoelstra should use Ware next season if he remains on the roster. Does Spo need to adjust his coaching approach to maximize Ware’s development? And how would Ware fit next to Bam Adebayo long term? Finally, they break down Ware’s trade value. Which players should the Heat be willing to include Ware for? Can Miami afford to trade him? And if the Heat can’t land a star, should they pivot toward building around Ware as part of the next core? Wes Goldberg and David Ramil scrutinize Miami’s roster, debating which talent possesses the elite skills and versatility needed for a deep postseason run.

Heat management’s pursuit of size, length, and two-way ability dominates the conversation, with potential mid-level free agent targets such as John Collins and Robert Williams III. The episode also explores blockbuster trade scenarios—Giannis Antetokounmpo or Kawhi Leonard?—while weighing their fit, price, and availability for Miami’s championship aspirations.
