Locked On Heat - Daily Podcast On The Miami Heat

Miami Heat guard Dru Smith will miss a couple of weeks with a calf strain suffered during training camp, but Erik Spoelstra is calling the injury a “minor” issue. So what does it mean for Miami’s rotation? Wes Goldberg and David Ramil react to Smith’s latest setback and explain why his injury history makes the news particularly frustrating — even if the Heat aren’t overly concerned.

Then, who benefits from Smith’s absence? Ryan Conwell and Tre Donaldson could get more opportunities, but Pelle Larsson might be the biggest winner. After Larsson revealed Miami could use him at point guard in bigger lineups, could he become Spoelstra’s full-time backup behind Davion Mitchell? Plus, Dennis Smith Jr. could provide preseason reinforcements, Gabe Vincent remains available and the Heat don’t appear to be rushing to use their 15th roster spot.

Giannis Antetokounmpo is already feeling the Erik Spoelstra experience. After Day 2 of Miami Heat training camp, Giannis praised Spoelstra’s direct coaching style, accountability and intensity — and had a colorful description for just how fast his new teammates are moving.

Wes Goldberg and David Ramil break down Giannis’ first impressions of Heat Culture and what his comments tell us about the early stages of this partnership. Then, could Kyrie Irving become Miami’s next big swing? New rumblings have connected the Heat to the star guard, so we examine what Kyrie could add alongside Giannis and Bam Adebayo and the hurdles Miami would face in actually making a deal. Plus, NBA officials are emphasizing offensive push-offs this season. Could the crackdown impact one of Giannis’ most powerful weapons?

Miami Heat training camp is underway, and Day 1 offered our first clues about what Erik Spoelstra has planned for Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo.

Wes Goldberg and David Ramil break down everything they saw and heard from the Heat’s first practice, including a brutally difficult opening session that left players drenched — and Spoelstra encouraged by the conditioning his team brought into camp.

Then, we get into the basketball. Davion Mitchell and Bam expect Miami to switch aggressively on defense, while Spo revealed how the Heat could use Bam and Giannis both on and off the ball in pick-and-roll coverages. Could their versatility eliminate one of the easiest ways opponents attack traditional big lineups? Plus, Bobby Portis’ battles, his dinners with Udonis Haslem, Klay Thompson’s eventful practice and the rookie who beat Klay in a shooting contest.

Giannis Antetokounmpo transforms the Miami Heat from postseason question marks to legitimate Eastern Conference contenders. Can pairing Giannis with Bam Adebayo unlock a new era at Kaseya Center, or will concerns about injuries and fit limit Miami’s ceiling?

Wes Goldberg and John Karalis dissect how Giannis’ arrival shifts the Heat’s identity, discuss Bam Adebayo’s evolving offensive role, and question whether Miami’s supporting cast—featuring Klay Thompson, Andrew Wiggins, Davion Mitchell, and Pelle Larsson—can rise to the challenge. Insights include the impact of Giannis and Bam’s defensive synergy, the pressure on Erik Spoelstra’s rotation, and where Miami might stack up in a jam-packed Eastern Conference. With rivals like the Boston Celtics, Detroit Pistons, and New York Knicks lurking, the Heat’s quest for a top-six seed and a playoff breakthrough sparks one key question: Is the window to contention wide open at last?

00:00 – Giannis Transforms Miami Heat
12:35 – Bam Adebayo’s Fit with Giannis
