Locked On Heat - Daily Podcast On The Miami Heat

We know Giannis Antetokounmpo makes the Miami Heat better. But how, exactly? Wes Goldberg and David Ramil use the numbers to identify the specific areas where Giannis could transform Miami on offense, defense and even off the court.

Last season, the Heat were middle-of-the-pack at generating and converting shots at the rim, getting to the free-throw line and overall shooting efficiency. Giannis’ last healthy Bucks team was elite in all three areas. Can his rim pressure completely reshape Miami’s offense?

Then, Wes and David examine what pairing Giannis with Bam Adebayo could mean for Miami’s paint and rim protection — and compare the potential to other teams with multiple elite defenders.

Finally, Giannis has already changed the Heat’s national profile, including a jump to 25 nationally televised games.

Could Walter Clayton Jr. become available before the season? For the other Memphis names: Clayton is easily the one I’d prioritize for Miami. D’Angelo Russell is the most interesting if you’re purely trying to improve the current team because he provides the kind of ballhandling and shot creation the backcourt could use. But his role and expectations would need to make sense.

Could the Miami Heat still add another All-Star guard next to Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo? Wes Goldberg and David Ramil examine three names Heat fans keep asking about: Kyrie Irving, Jrue Holiday and Zach LaVine.

Which guard is the best fit — and which is actually attainable? Wes and David explain why trades for Kyrie and Holiday are extremely difficult without draft capital before exploring the possibility of LaVine negotiating a buyout if Sacramento falls out of contention.

But what if Miami’s real plan is to wait until next summer? The Heat’s recent financial decisions could position them to use the full non-taxpayer mid-level exception on a 2027 free-agent class that could include LaVine, Jordan Poole, RJ Barrett, Fred VanVleet and more.

How many Miami Heat players belong in the NBA’s Top 100? Wes Goldberg and David Ramil get ready to submit their ballots for the Locked On NBA Top 100 rankings by revisiting last year’s list and figuring out what they got wrong.

Where should Giannis Antetokounmpo rank after joining Miami? Is Bam Adebayo underrated compared to the NBA’s other stars? Then, Wes and David debate which other Heat players deserve Top 100 consideration, including Andrew Wiggins and Klay Thompson — and whether reputation should matter when ranking players right now.

Finally, they look ahead to the Heat players who could PLAY their way into next year’s Top 100. Could Davion Mitchell make the leap? And after an impressive summer, is Pelle Larsson a legitimate breakout candidate?

What would make this Miami Heat season a success? With Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo leading a revamped roster, Wes Goldberg and David Ramil open the mailbag to debate Miami’s expectations and which regular-season experiments are worth sacrificing a few wins to prepare for the playoffs.

Then, who should get the Heat’s final roster spot? Could Miami still reunite with Gabe Vincent or Victor Oladipo, and what could a trade look like if the Heat wait until the season? Plus, can Klay Thompson and Tim Hardaway Jr. share the floor, or would that create too many problems defensively?

Finally, Wes and David play Heat laboratory: Combine any two Miami players besides Giannis and Bam to create the perfect third star. Which combination gives Miami exactly what it needs to contend for a championship?

The NBA hammered the Los Angeles Clippers over salary-cap circumvention involving Kawhi Leonard — and the fallout could have major implications for the Miami Heat and the Eastern Conference.

Wes Goldberg and David Ramil react to the Clippers forfeiting five first-round picks, receiving a $30 million fine and owner Steve Ballmer being suspended for one year. Did the NBA go too far, or was this exactly the punishment needed?

Then, what does the Kawhi situation mean for Miami? With Leonard’s future connected to Toronto, Wes and David examine whether the Raptors could emerge as a legitimate threat to the Heat in the East. Finally, after Miami was previously linked to Kawhi, it’s time to ask: Are Heat fans relieved that Pat Riley and the front office never pulled the trigger on a Leonard trade?

Could Victor Oladipo make a surprising return to the Miami Heat? According to Ira Winderman, the Heat have been monitoring Oladipo’s comeback and cleared the 34-year-old guard to work out at Kaseya Center. Wes Goldberg and David Ramil discuss what Oladipo could realistically offer after not playing in the NBA since 2023 and whether Miami should consider a reunion.

Then, Jake Fischer reports the Heat have internal interest in adding a veteran guard with their open 15th roster spot. Could that eventually lead to Oladipo? What about another reunion with Gabe Vincent? And does Miami even need to make a move before the season?

Wes and David compare Oladipo and Vincent, examine Miami’s backcourt depth behind Davion Mitchell and determine the best approach for the Heat’s final roster spot.

Where does the Miami Heat’s new starting five rank among the best in the NBA? After an offseason that completely reshaped the roster around Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo, Wes Goldberg and David Ramil rank all 30 NBA starting lineups in a tier list.

How much does having an elite starting five actually matter when it comes to winning a championship? Which teams have the best combination of star power, shooting, defense and lineup versatility? And how does Miami stack up against contenders like the Knicks, 76ers, Spurs, Thunder and Nuggets?

Wes and David work their way from the NBA’s weakest starting lineups to the championship-caliber groups at the top before answering the question that matters most to Heat fans: Is Miami’s new starting five legitimately one of the best in basketball?

The Miami Heat have Giannis Antetokounmpo and championship expectations. So who faces the most pressure if this experiment doesn’t work?

Wes Goldberg and David Ramil put Erik Spoelstra, Davion Mitchell and Bam Adebayo on the Heat’s version of the hot seat. Spoelstra is one of the NBA’s most accomplished coaches and seemingly untouchable in Miami — but does going all-in on Giannis change the standard he’ll be held to?

Then, why could Mitchell become the obvious scapegoat if Miami falls short? Wes and David look at previous contenders that upgraded a starter after disappointing playoff runs and whether Mitchell could suffer the same fate. Finally, they examine Bam’s pressure entering the Giannis era and what the next couple of seasons could mean for his Heat legacy.

Nikola Jovic and Pelle Larsson are putting on a show overseas — and the Miami Heat should be paying close attention.

Wes Goldberg and David Ramil break down Jovic’s impressive performance for Serbia, including 21 points on 9-of-15 shooting against Iceland, and ask the bigger question: How can Erik Spoelstra unlock this version of Jovic in Miami? And if Jovic finally puts everything together, could his development turn him into one of the Heat’s most valuable trade assets?

Then, Pelle Larsson is making history. Larsson became the first player ever to score 30-plus points in back-to-back games in the FIBA World Cup European Qualifiers. Wes and David examine what’s different about his game, the expanding offensive arsenal he’s showing and whether Miami might have another breakout player on its hands.
