Locked On Islanders - Daily Podcast On The New York Islanders

The New York Islanders open a seven-game homestand tonight when they face the Ottawa Senators. These seven games can have a huge impact on the future of the franchise, not just for this season but for a few years to come. Four of these seven games are against teams the Isles are fighting for a playoff spot against.

If the Isles play well and earn 10 points or more, they are right in the thick of the playoff hunt  and Lou Lamoriello is unlikely to consider selling any players off his roster. If they stumble, he could actually realize it's time to retool.

We also have the latest injury updates and line combination changes and we have a full preview of tonight's game against the Senators.

The New York Islanders won their third straight game for the first time this season by beating the  Utah Hockey Club 2-1. Marcus Hogberg was the surprise starter in goal after Ilya Sorokin came down with an illness and Alexander Romanov missed the game due, but the Isles still played strong team defense in the win. Mathew Barzal, Anders Lee and Brock Nelson provided both goals and were the team's best line.

We also have our hero and goat of the game and discuss how the Isles managed to put together this winning streak.

The Isles alumni also had a good weekend as they beat the Rangers alumni in a charity game at Madison Square Garden with Cal Clutterbuck accomplishing something he didn't do at all in his lengthy NHL career.

The New York Islanders have two 30-goal scorers from a year ago who are on expiring contracts and are very likely to be traded. That's Brock Nelson and Kyle Palmieri. Both are also slumping right now. Nelson has gone 17 games without lighting the lamp while  Palms has 2 goals in his last 18 games. We discuss what this does to their market value and some other possible trade candidates that Lou Lamoriello could and probably should look to deal.

We also have the latest injury updates and roster moves as Simon Holmstrom .lands on IR while Hudson Fasching and Isaiah George will not make the two-game road trip to Vegas and Utah. The Islanders also called up Grant Hutton from Bridgeport.

And we have our weekly Farm Report on all things Bridgeport Islanders as the struggles on the farm continue.

The New York Islanders played a fast and competitive game but the same old problems caused them to fall short in a 2-1 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs. Once again, the team had chances but couldn't finish. Special teams were anything but special and hurt the Isles and they took an untimely penalty late in the game that led directly to the game-winner.

We have our key takeaways from the game including our hero and goat and we discuss the potential injury to Isaiah George and why the Isles failed to stand up for their teammate.

Plus we preview Sunday's game against the Boston Bruins.
