Locked On Islanders - Daily Podcast On The New York Islanders

The Minnesota Wild have just signed defenseman Brock Faber to an 8-year extension worth $8.5 million. Today, we discuss the impact of that extension on the New York Islanders negotiations with Noah Dobson who is entering the final year of his contract. Should Lou Lamoriello try to sign Dobber to an extension this summer, or should he be patient and see how he plays this season and how the market looks?

Plus, the World Juniors Summer Showcase is going on now in Michigan. We discuss the play of two Isles prospects at the showcase and how it impacts their development and that includes first round pick Cole Eiserman.

And we break down the Isles second buyout window after the agreement with Oliver Wahlstrom which expired today.

All this and more on today's Locked On Islanders Podcast with Gil Martin.

The New York Islanders avoided arbitration and signed forward Oliver Wahlstrom to a one-year deal worth $1 million. The new contract doesn't guarantee that Wally will still be with the Islanders when the season starts on October 10th. We discuss where Wahlstrom could fit into the Isles lineup and why it's still more likely than not that GM Lou Lamoriello trades him before the season gets started.

Plus, captain Anders Lee spoke about the Isles chances this year and why he thinks this will be a better team in 2024-25.

We'll break that down on today's show.

Plus, we look back at the very first shutout in New York Islanders history and believe it or not, it didn't happen until their third season in the league. It involved a future Hall of Fame goalie and an expansion team. We look back at the first two shutouts in Isles history today.

Plus, we clarify Simon Holmstrom's new contract and where he stands with the organization after agreeing to take less than his qualifying offer.

And we look at the teams in the Metropolitan Division. Who got better this offseason, who regressed and which teams stayed at roughly the same level?
