Locked On Jets - Daily Podcast On The New York Jets

The focus of last weekend’s trade between the Jets and Seahawks was on Jamal Adams and multiple first round picks moving between the teams. The Jets did make a lower profile addition in the deal, acquiring safety Bradley McDougald. McDougald will likely slide into Adams’ starting role. While he will undoubtedly be a downgrade from Adams, he could be a quality starter for the Jets in 2020.

On today’s podcast I discuss the addition of McDougald and what it might mean for the Jets’ team building. Adding him as a throw in shows good attention to detail by the Jets. It also might be another display of how the new front office values positions differently than past Jets leadership. Additionally on the show we discuss whether the Jets should look at add edge rushers Jadeveon Clowney and/or Yannick Ngakoue who are both looking for new teams.

Over the weekend the Jets traded star safety Jamal Adams and a future fourth round pick to the Seattle Seahawks. In return the Jets received two first round picks, a third round pick, and safety Bradley McDougald.

On today's show we talk about the deal. Obviously whenever you give up a player of Adams' caliber there are some negatives, but overall the Jets got an outstanding return. This move could provide the team with the Draft capital necessary to turbocharge the rebuild.

Almost every team has big name players who the fans know.

On today’s podcast I talk about the people on the Jets I feel are underappreciated. Admittedly I’m not a big fan of the underrated/overrated thing. In the internet age with some many people giving opinions about everything, it’s difficult to be underrated or overrated. Somebody has an opinion out there that probably underrates or overrates everybody.

It’s also tough to believe people on a losing team can fly under the radar, but do I think there are some members of the Jets who do not receive enough credit for what they do.

Some of these guys are overshadowed by those with higher profiles. Others fill unglamorous yet important roles. Others just haven’t gotten the media attention for the roles they fill.

On today's show we look at the Jets and Sam Darnold stack up against the opposition in the first four weeks, whether Mekhi Becton will be an immediate upgrade over Kelvin Beachum, whether the Jets should attempt to trade for David Njoku, whether NFL players might begin seeking contracts tied to a percentage of the salary cap, a candidate to have a surprising breakout season, and who will be impacted most by the lack of preseason games.

At this point in time players are scheduled to report to training camp by early next week.

For many players, training camp is not a big deal. Established stars have nothing riding on summer practices. There are some players who have quite a bit on the line in training camp, however. Some of these players are looking to take the next step. Others are competing for a roster spot or playing time. Still others are looking to prove that they can still play effectively.

On today’s podcast we discuss the players who have a lot on the line in training camp for the Jets this season. With a reduced or completely cancelled preseason, the chance to attract the attention of coaches will come on the practice field this summer. Who needs to succeed in camp?

Today we conclude our week of AFC East podcast roundtable discussions. Once more I join Mike D’Abate of Locked on Patriots, Joe Marino of Locked on Bills, and Kyle Crabbs of Locked on Dolphins. Today our focus is on the Miami Dolphins.

The Dolphins overhauled their organization last year after Adam Gase’s unsuccessful tenure with the team. Expected by many to be the worst team in the NFL, the Dolphins got off to an 0-7 start. They had a strong finish to the season, however, winning five of their last nine to finish 5-11. A 5-11 record is typically nothing to be excited about, but given their talent level one could argue they overachieved. Miami was active in free agency and had numerous Draft picks to overhaul its roster. On today’s show we talk about what the future looks like for the Dolphins and where they fit in the AFC East.

If you have been following our podcast AFC East week roundtable discussion, this is probably the day you have been waiting for. After spending the first two days of the week discussing the Patriots and the Bills respectively, today we turn our attention to the Jets.

Mike D’Abate of Locked on Patriots, Joe Marino of Locked on Bills, and Kyle Crabbs of Locked on Dolphins join me to discuss how 2020 looks for the Jets. Generally speaking you will hear a consistent theme. Like much of the fanbase, our rivals seem impressed with the early work of Joe Douglas and think the Jets have good long-term potential. For this year, however, there is skepticism about the Jets mainly because of questions about Adam Gase. Who said rivals can’t agree on anything?
