The waiting has come to an end. After months of anticipation the Jets made their pick last night, and the franchise has a new quarterback of the future. It is Sam Darnold, the USC product.
On this 400th episode of the Locked on Jets podcast, we break down the selection for the Jets. Michael Nania of Gang Green Nation joins us.

It is finally here. Today the 2018 NFL Draft begins in Dallas, Texas. Every Draft is important for every team, but this year's Draft will go a long way towards defining the next three to five years for the Jets. If they are lucky, it will define the next ten to fifteen years because that would mean they at long last found their franchise quarterback.
You know the Jets are picking a quarterback tonight. I know the Jets are picking a quarterback tonight. So on today the podcast focuses on the quarterbacks.
The conventional wisdom is four quarterbacks are in play for the Jets with the third overall pick. They are Sam Darnold, Josh Rosen, Josh Allen, and Baker Mayfield. On today's show I offer some final thoughts on the four. By the end of the night, one of them will be the next savior for this fanbase.

It is tough to believe, but we are almost there. The NFL Draft begins tomorrow. In one day, the Jets will have their next quarterback of the future.
Before they get that quarterback of the future, two teams will pick in front of them. The Cleveland Browns and New York Giants currently own the top two selections. What the Jets do is dependent on the choices of those two teams.
At this point, it is not obvious what either team is going to do. There are some NFL Drafts where the decision in front of the top two teams seems obvious. This is not one of those years.
At this point, both teams seem to have three paths in front of them. The paths the Browns and Giants choose will influence the pick for the Jets.
On today's podcast, we look at the three potential paths for the Browns and the Giants.

Connor Rodgers is one of my favorite NFL Draft writers. He also happens to focus on the Jets. If you read the predictions he made about the 2017 Jets before the season, it is scary how much he got right.
In addition to writing for Bleacher Report, you can hear him on a couple of podcasts. Stick to Football focuses a lot on the NFL Draft. Connor also hosts a Jets podcast called Stick to the Jets. As much as I appreciate those who listen to my podcast on your commute, I understand Locked on Jets can only cover one half of that commute. If you are looking for a show on the other side, Connor provides a couple of good options.
Connor is our guest today as we move closer to the NFL Draft. We discuss what will happen early, what the Jets will do, and some prospects to watch in later rounds.

At long last we have arrived at NFL Draft week. In three days, the debate about which quarterback the Jets should draft will end. We will move on to the months of hype that will follow the new quarterback.
To help us set the stage, our podcast guest today is Dave-Te' Thomas. Dave-Te' has been a frequent guest to the podcast. If you are not familiar with him, he has scouted professional football for around 50 years. Over half the teams in the NFL have hired him as a consultant, and he usually puts together the league's guide on Draft prospects, which has more information on every prospect than you ever wanted to know.
On today's show we discuss how the top of the Draft will go, what the Jets' options are, the later rounds of the Draft, and how the Jets did in the offseason. And we get a little Stanley Cup Playoffs discussion since Dave-Te' is a Vegas Golden Knights fan.

Next week is the NFL Draft, which means we will be quite busy breaking down developments. It probably will not leave us time to do a podcast mailbag. With that in mind, this week we are adding a second mailbag show to the schedule. Once again, thanks to those of you who left questions.
Today we look at how effective Todd Bowles has been as a defensive coach during his tenure with the Jets, what we should make of rumors that Josh Rosen is falling down NFL Draft boards, how important it is for a quarterback to be able to deliver after taking big hits, whether the respective ceilings of first round quarterback prospects actually matter, and how big of a role luck plays in successful drafting.

We are just one week from the start of the 2018 NFL Draft. In seven days, the Jets will chart their course for at least the next few years and perhaps the next decade plus by drafting their next quarterback of the future.
On today's podcast we will do a mailbag. Thanks to those of you who submitted questions. If your question did not get answered, do not fret. I think we will do another mailbag tomorrow. Next week will be dominated by the Draft so we probably will not get to a mailbag. Thus we will do two this week barring unforseen events.
Today we look at whether any of the consensus top four quarterback prospects is a sure thing or a sure bust, the recently retired Nick Mangold's finest moment in a Jets uniform, whether Sam Darnold or Baker Mayfield ran a more complex offensive system in college, whether Quincy Enunwa's role may change, who the Jets should pick at 3 if they don't choose a quarterback, and whether Saquon Barkley should be considered a viable option with that selection.

As we near the Draft, it is a good thing to understand the value of positions. Positions are not the same in the NFL. Some are more valuable than others.
On yesterday's podcast we ranked the positions on the Jets defense in terms of importance. Rankings on the defensive side of the ball are very scheme dependent. Roles and responsibilities can vary wildly from scheme to scheme at positions like outside linebacker.
On the offensive side of the ball, things are a bit simpler. A wide receiver runs routes and catches passes no matter the system his team runs. There might be a small variation here or there from team to team, but positional value is more universal on offense.
On today's show we rank the positions on offense in importance.

Positions are not equal in the NFL. Some are substantially more valuable than others.
On the defensive side of the ball, this value is to a certain extent determined by scheme. One position might be very important in one system and not as important in a different system.
Positional value matters as a front office looks to put together a roster. It sometimes dictates what resources a team dedicates to a certain position.
On today's podcast we take a look at the Todd Bowles defense and the value each position has. I will rank the positions by their importance and discuss the traits Bowles seems to look for at each spot.
