Locked On Kings - Daily Podcast On The Los Angeles Kings

With Rob Blake's comments after acquiring Kevin Fiala, the picture becomes more clear on what the team's blue line will look like next year. We talk about what it seems like the approach is going to be and whether or not that's a good idea. Kevin Fiala also spoke about his game and how it will fit in on the team. With his defensive game still being a work in progress, will that be a hindrance to gaining Todd McLellan's trust? Plus, with the Blackhawks trading Alex DeBrincat, we look back at the Fiala trade and see if the Kings could or should have tried to make a deal for DeBrincat instead.

The Los Angeles Kings went out and bolstered their scoring by acquiring the rights to pending RFA Kevin Fiala from the Minnesota Wild. As the Wild face a cap crunch, they needed to shed some salary and the Kings were the beneficiaries. On today's show, we look at how the deal benefits both teams and how Fiala will fit in on the team. What kind of season can we look forward to from the 33-goal scorer, and will he be able to sustain that kind of performance?

With the 2021-22 season officially in the books, it's time to look towards next season. Special guest Eddie Garcia (Update anchor for Fox Sports Radio Network, Co-host of the Puck Podcast) joins the show as we talk about the Kings greatest needs in the lineup. With big names like Johnny Gaudreau and Filip Forsberg out there, will Rob Blake be willing to spend big bucks? Or will he get a good deal on a player who can still contribute but won't break the bank? And with everyone saying the team needs to get tougher, what would a guy like David Perron or Nazem Kadri cost?

The Los Angeles Kings organization filled an important role in Ontario, moving Marco Sturm to the AHL to take over as Reign head coach after the departure of John Wroblewski. On today's show, we look at how the Sturm move makes sense from an organizational standpoint and for a developmental standpoint for Sturm as a coach, given his past success in head coaching roles internationally.

Plus we turn back to the draft by taking a look at Finnish forward Brad Lambert, whose draft stock has varied widely over the past season. We look at his performance in Finland this past season, ponder why people aren't as excited about him as a prospect as before, and look at how he could fit in with the Kings.

The Los Angeles Kings are getting down to business with signing some of their players who need new deals. We look at the new contracts for reigning AHL MVP TJ Tynan, as well as defenseman Jacob Moverare and look at where they might fit within the Kings depth chart. Plus, the 2022 NHL Draft is coming up and for the first time in a while, the Kings don't have one of the coveted top picks. With a pick in the 19th spot, the world is pretty much their oyster, especially with how wildly different some draft rankings are. Friend of the program Jay Forster of Locked On Blue Jackets has been doing some of his own research and joins the show today to talk about why everyone is so uncertain about the outcome of this draft.

The Minnesota Wild are in a cap crunch of their own making, and they've got some big decisions to make this offseason about how to fix that. Locked On Wild host Seth Toupal joins the show to talk about Kevin Fiala's career best season, why the Wild might be looking to move on from him, and whether or not his performance is sustainable. With the Los Angeles Kings always looking for more scoring, could Fiala help them out? We look at what the Wild could possibly be after in a trade and go through some Kings prospects who could be on the move if a deal like this could get done.
