Locked On Mets - Daily Podcast On The New York Mets

Ariel Jurado and Franklyn Kilome served up some nice BP to the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday, as they crushed them to the tune of 14 hits and nine runs. Can the Mets afford to be giving games away with such a limited amount of time left in the season?

Jeff McNeil may finally be turning the corner, was the 10-game slump he endured simply a product of crashing into the wall to make that incredible catch? Also Robinson Cano would be leading the league in batting if he was a qualified hitter, what will it take for him to win a batting title?

The New York Mets almost stood pat at the deadline, only to make a flurry of moves at the 11th hour. When the dust settled, Todd Frazier was brought back to play with the Mets again and was joined by catcher and Rangers teammate Robinson Chirinos.

Unfortunately the big news was that another top pitching prospect has been sent to greener pastures, as Brodie Van Wagenen dealt last year's minor league pitcher of the year Kevin Smith to Baltimore. In exchange the Orioles traded veteran reliever Miguel Castro to the Mets.

The Mets unraveled over the weekend against the Yankees, dropping the last three games of the Subway Series. Was manager Luis Rojas to blame for some of the poor decisions he made on Sunday?

Also the trade deadline has arrived and the Mets have to decide whether to buy, sell or hold, what will the do?

The New York Mets had an outstanding sweep of their doubleheader against the Yankees, winning both games in dramatic fashion. Pete Alonso, Dominic Smith, Jake Marisnick and Amed Rosario all had momentous home runs, yet that was not even the headlining story.

Steve Cohen has won the exclusive right to buy the Mets and is now very likely to become the next owner. Alex Rodriguez's group pulled out of the bidding process and new era of Mets baseball is about to begin.

The New York Mets and Miami Marlins were supposed to play a game at 7:10 on Thursday night. Instead they took the field and stood together for a 42-second moment of silence out of respect for Jackie Robinson. They then exited the field with only a Black Lives Matter t-shirt draped across home plate left behind.

Michael Conforto and Dominic Smith were just some of the Mets who spoke about this after the game. Listen to here what they had to say. Also GM Brodie Van Wagenen became a story as well, as he questioned the leadership of MLB Commisioner Rob Manfred in a leaked video.

If you have been moved by Dominic Smith's words over the past few days, check out his foundation here to learn about what how he is trying to impact the next generation through baseball.

August 26th, 2020, will be remembered as a pivotal moment in sports history, as the Milwaukee Bucks boycotted a playoff basketball game in protest of the shooting of Jacob Blake. What followed was a day where some sports came to a stop, as other leagues, teams and players followed suit with the NBA and stopped play.

Dominic Smith, one of the few black players on the Mets, knelt during the anthem and spoke out after the game. Listen to hear his comments and the pain behind them.

The Mets were swept in their first double-header of the week, as the Marlins snapped a five-game losing streak to New York with a pair of shutouts. Rick Porcello struggled in another start, but Corey Oswalt and Seth Lugo at least pitched well, showing promise for the rotation moving forward.

As the Mets continue to fail with runners in scoring position, it's fair to wonder if the pressure of expectations is getting to them. What will it take to turn things around before it's too late?

The Mets are set to face their toughest task yet, as they will have to play nine games over the next six days. How will the pitching staff and the rest of the roster hold up squaring off against the Miami Marlins and the New York Yankees?

Also GM Brodie Van Wagenen spoke with the media on Monday about the COVID situation with the Mets and their approach heading into the trade deadline.

With the trade deadline fast approaching, the New York Mets could be buyers to try to win this year. It would be a terrible mistake however to the future of the franchise to deal prospects for this season. Yet with the Wilpons about to sell the team, who knows what they will do in what could be their last year running the team.

Also there have been no further positive COVID tests from the Mets this weekend, so baseball could resume in New York soon. What will that look like for the Mets, as they try to catch up for the time lost?
