Locked On Nets - Daily Podcast On The Brooklyn Nets

The Locked on Nets guys are taking a slightly different approach to this week’s episodes, looking at potential worst-case scenarios for the the team this season. And that starts with Mikal Bridges. He is clearly the most important player for Brooklyn this season and maybe one of the most important in the whole league for an individual team.

Bridges has played every game of his NBA career, but is it realistic to think he can continue doing that? What is in store for the Nets were he to miss time? Or worse, can he keep up the efficiency and scoring he came out with last year following the trade? They look at everything Mikal Bridges and what to expect this season.

With the schedule set for the NBA’s first In-Season Tournament, the Nets know who will be in their bracket and how things are lining up. They will have the Boston Celtics, Toronto Raptors, and Orlando Magic to play at various points this season.

That actually lines up pretty well for Brooklyn and they are in one of the weaker brackets all things considered. The Locked on Nets guys discuss the In-Season Tournament as a whole as well as what the Nets chances are in the grand scheme of things. Plus, they talk about how this will actually play out during the season and why teams will likely be very motivated to compete.

With the latest news that James Harden is possibly refusing to play for the Philadelphia 76ers this coming season, the Locked on Nets guys take a look back at what got him to Philly in the first place. They look at the timeline where Harden is and was concerned and dive into where Brooklyn stands with draft picks and compensation from that trade.

No doubt about it, James Harden did the Nets a favor, in the long run, asking out when he did. Of course, things went south for the Nets after with Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, but there’s increasing evidence that was always going to be the case with Harden specifically.

Cam Thomas has been making some media rounds this summer and becoming more forward-facing about his career and time with the Nets. It’s been a refreshing look at the young guard’s mindset and his expectations for the upcoming season. In a recent talk he mentioned that if he started in the NBA he could average 25 points per game, a big number and yet still somehow believable.

Doug Norrie talks about Cam Thomas’s recent media tidbits and the expectation going into this season. What should the Nets do regarding Thomas this season, is this going to be a breakout campaign and where should his spot in the rotation be?

Over the next many years the Nets will control draft picks from the Phoenix Suns thanks to the Kevin Durant trade as well as picks from the Mavericks and the 76ers. But how should Sean Marks and company use these assets as they relate to Mikal Bridges and some other young pieces?

The Locked on Nets guys take a look at where Brooklyn stands over the next few years, how superstars could become available in the coming seasons (Luka Doncic? Joel Embiid?) and what is the best course of action to secure a bright basketball future.

After Mikal Bridges and Cameron Johnson took part in the first team FIBA scrimmage for Team USA, the Locked on Nets guys take a look at how the two fit into a mix of superstar NBA guys. The early results look good and give some insight into how the Nets could build going into the future.

Plus, there’s talk about the mobile defensive bigs and how Brooklyn has stockpiled some of the league’s best of this archetype with Nic Claxton, Ben Simmons, and even Darius Bazely.

With the Nets roster mostly filled out at this point, a question still remains about how the team will fill out its rotations of bigs at the center position. They got an amazing performance from Claxton last season and his spot is entrenched, but what about the position behind him? Has Sean Marks upgraded enough to alleviate some issues from last season? It’s not clear.

The Locked on Nets guys discuss the play of Day’ron Sharpe from last season as well as the additions of Trendon Watford and Darius Bazely. Plus they drafted Noah Clowney and do have other wings with size. Will this be enough for the Nets this year or will they continue to get dominated on the glass?

In an off-season that saw Cam Johnson sign a bigger-money, long-term contract with the Brooklyn Nets, the expectation now begin to shift going into this next season. The Nets will need Johnson to step up and live up to the contract on the court, needing to take a sizable leap when it comes to his place in the overall NBA landscape.

The Locked on Nets guys discuss the Johnson contract, where he stands in terms of NBA rankings, and the analytics that point to his ability to grow into the game.

The Nets made some major changes this off-season, a couple of which included trading Joe Harris and not resigning Seth Curry. For all of their weaknesses, that does leave a hole in the lineup for pure shooting, ones the Nets will try to fill with the likes of Lonnie Walker and Cam Thomas.

The Locked on Nets guys look at how Brooklyn will try to get spacing this season and whether the likes of Walker and Thomas are enough to replace the elite shooting they already had in place. It’s an interesting trade-off, one that likely works in the Nets’ favor in the long run. But there’s no question that it could be something that crops up this year, whether Brooklyn does have enough from behind the arc.

With the Brooklyn Nets roster mostly filled out at this point, it’s time to start thinking about how lineups could shake out. Mikal Bridges, Cameron Johnson, and even Ben Simmons could give the team significant flexibility when it comes to 5-man rotations and combinations.

The Locked on Nets guys discuss a number of different lineup scenarios for the team and how guys like Spencer Dinwiddie, Nic Claxton, Dennis Smith Jr. Dorian Finney-Smith, Lonnie Walker and more factor in.

For a team in relative transition, Jacque Vaughn and company will have a lot of possibilities to sort out.
