Locked On Nets - Daily Podcast On The Brooklyn Nets

The guys are in fielding fans questions on a Friday Mailbag and fans came with a great collection of curiosities! First up is a familiar topic in Ben Simmons, but with a new angle on what the ceiling of this season. There is, if healthy, a reasonable stat-line to pencil in but along with Doug's tempered expectations - Adam also notes that there could be a fine line between individual and team performance and how that impacts the Nets decisions.

The hosts then look at their favorite offseason additions, and while they vary in players, both agree the youth and prospect off hitting on one or two players would be a huge win for Sean Marks.

Before turning in their FIBA prediction cards the guys also answer the question of job security for Sean Marks and Head Coach Jacque Vaughn. In both cases Doug and Adam would be hard pressed to see anything other then trust and patience in both cases.

Mikal Bridges got going early early and seemed to make eveything for Team USA in their win over Italy in the FIBA quarterfinals. Bridges finished with 24 points on 94% true shooting, outscoring the rest of the starters combined.

The Locked on Nets guys discuss the win and Bridges play specifically. It was just another in the many examples for the 27-year-old in what the Brooklyn Nets got in the Kevin Durant trade.

They also talk about players whose stock has gone up and down in this international play.

Team USA which includes Nets Mikal Bridges and Cam Johnson suffered a rough loss to Lithuania in Group stage play at FIBA on Sunday. It was group stage, but it proved to be something of an eye-opener considering they were facing a team with only one NBA player. Anthony Edwards dropped a ton of points, but it wasn’t enough for Team USA to overcome a huge first half deficit.

The Locked on Nets guys discuss the game and what it means for this group on the world stage.

Plus, they discuss the Harry Giles signing over the weekend and how it follows a similar pattern for Sean Marks and company this off-season.

After an off-season that saw him get a big-time pay increase, Cam Johnson is poised for his best season yet as an NBA player and that should be a good thing for the Brooklyn Nets. Doug Norrie looks at the odds for Most Improved Player (Mikal Bridges is the leader) and how there is a clear path for Johnson to put himself in the discussion.

Cam Johnson is currently at +4000 but there’s room for him to climb. Doug looks at who has won this award historically and how Johnson is in a similar situation to some winners from the past. He looks at some of the stats supporting the case and more.

The Nets are poised for a very interesting season and are at something of a crossroads with their current roster. Sean Marks has some real, franchise-level decisions to make along the way. The Locked on Nets guys break down three of the moves the Nets must make this season and they revolve around veterans like Spencer Dinwiddie, Royce O’Neale, and Dorian Finney-Smith.

In talking about these three, they look at the rest of the roster trying to suss out exactly what the plan should be for the team now and moving forward. It could include some uncomfortable transactions which could leave the team worse in the short term.

The Locked on Nets guys are continuing with Worst Case Week and this time around they are looking at Ben Simmons. It’s a deep dive into what to expect from Simmons this season and how, in some ways, he holds Brooklyn’s short-term future in what he does on the court.

The talk around Ben Simmons has been overwhelmingly positive this off-season which is a very good sign. But what would happen if he comes out and plays much like he did last year? Which is to say, well below the level of his current contract. The LON guys look at it from every angle and talk about how Ben Simmons’ play this season could dramatically affect what happens with the team next season.
