Locked On Panthers - Daily Podcast On The Carolina Panthers

Despite posting a 0.0 passer rating, PJ Walker is set to start on Thursday Night Football against the Atlanta Falcons. Carolina Panthers interim head coach Steve Wilks offered little explanation outside of it being a short week and highlighting Walker's success against the Falcons two weeks ago. Can PJ repeat that performance?

In the meantime, Baker Mayfield will once again serve as the backup, while Sam Darnold, who was activated from IR on Monday morning, will likely be inactive on Thursday. Wilks has been noncommital on naming a long-term QB for the rest of the season, leaving the door open for Darnold to start following the Panthers mini-bye week.

While hesitant to make a decision at QB, Wilks has had no trouble making changes to his coaching staff, relieving cornerbacks coach Evan Cooper and defensive line coach Paul Pasqualoni of their duties on Monday. Will the Panthers defense turn things around following the latest coaching changes?

Plus, a few more roster moves and injury updates as the team preps for Atlanta.

The Carolina Panthers responded to their crushing overtime loss to Atlanta in the worst possible way, getting routed, 42-21, by the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. Just when it seemed that these efforts were a thing of the past, Steve Wilks Panthers put up the stinker of the season in Cincinnati.

PJ Walker earned his fourth start of the season but was benched after halftime thanks to his two first-half interceptions and 0.0 passer rating. Baker Mayfield finished the game, leading three second-half touchdown drives. The Panthers now enter a short week with Atlanta coming to Charlotte for Thursday Night Football. Who will earn the start, Mayfield or Walker? Could Sam Darnold be an option?

Shaq Thompson and several Panthers players said that they were battling to earn Wilks the full-time coaching gig but after Sunday's effort and a 1-3 record as interim it's hard to see Panthers owner David Tepper being impressed by Wilks' outfit. Did Sunday's loss end Wilks' chances of earning the job?

For the time being, Carolina Panthers interim head coach Steve Wilks is sticking with PJ Walker as his starting quarterback. Over the past two weeks, Walker has shown that he's the team's best option at the position while also showing some future upside. What if Walker reveals himself as "the guy" for Carolina?

In his own right, Steve Wilks has shown to be a suitable option as the team's head coach. Should David Tepper remove the interim tag?

Julian Council answers both of those questions and more in this week's edition of the Weekly Friday Mailbag.

The Carolina Panthers, namely general manager Scott Fitterer, stood pat at the NFL trade deadline on Tuesday, opting to stick with their young core instead of trading them away for picks. Did the Panthers make the right decision in preserving a young roster?

On Tuesday morning, Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer revealed that the Los Angeles Rams were the team that offered the Panthers two first-round picks for Brian Burns. Reportedly the picks would've come in the 2024 and 2025 drafts. Are the Panthers crazy for passing up this offer or are they right for wanting draft compensation that could improve the team during the 2023 offseason?

Now that the deadline has passed, where do the Panthers stand heading into the final nine games of the season? With the current roster, are they more likely to pick in the Top 3 or win the NFC South?

Carolina Panthers head coach Steve Wilks met with the Charlotte media on Monday afternoon following the team's, 37-34, overtime loss to Atlanta. Wilks stated that PJ Walker will once again be the starter as the team prepares to travel to face the Cincinnati Bengals. Baker Mayfield will be the backup while Sam Darnold continues to make progress as he's set to return from IR. Should PJ maintain the job when Darnold is healthy?

There's been much discussion about DJ Moore's unsportsmanlike penalty on Sunday. Moore appeared to remove his helmet following his TD reception to tie the game at 34 outside the field of play. Which, by rule, would not call for a flag to be thrown in that instance. Either way, he was flagged. Setting up the first of Eddy Pineiro's critical misses. Should NFL officials deemphasize flagging players for celebration penalties late in games?

Plus, the NFL trade deadline is set for 4 p.m. EST on Tuesday afternoon. Do the Panthers have another move to make before heading into the second half of the season?

The Carolina Panthers lost, 37-34, in an overtime thriller on the road to their division rival Atlanta Falcons. Panthers interim head coach Steve Wilks noted that the team couldn't find a way to finish on Sunday. DJ Moore's celebration penalty and a missed field goal and an extra point by kicker Eddy Pineiro highlight an afternoon of avoidable mistakes by the Panthers. Did the Panthers let one slip away?

The Panthers offense had its best outing of the season, posting 34 points in the loss. Did D'Onta Foreman prove that he's the best option at RB moving forward? Can PJ Walker play his way into the starting QB gig past this season?

While Steve Wilks has the Panthers playing harder the team is still among the NFL's worst sitting at 2-6 overall, two games behind first-place Atlanta in the NFC South. Can the Panthers remain in the division race or will fans dreams of a Top 3 pick come true?

Following the Panthers first win under Steve Wilks and second within the NFC South, it's starting to feel like 2014 again. Back in 2014, Carolina was able to turn around a 3-8-1 start and win the division with at 7-8-1 record. The NFC South appears to once again be down. Can Carolina replicate the 2014 season? Julian Council answers this among other listener questions in this week's edition of the Weekly Friday Mailbag.

The Carolina Panthers head won I-85 South to face their NFC South division rival Atlanta Falcons. The Panthers are coming off the first win of the Steve Wilks era, as the team dominated Tampa Bay, 21-3, to remain a perfect 2-0 within the division. Can the Panthers make it two straight and potentially leave town sitting in first place in the division after eight weeks?

Julian Council and Locked On Falcons host Aaron Freeman break down the top storylines, and key matchups, and provide their predictions for Sunday's divisional showdown.

Carolina Panthers interim head coach Steve Wilks has Shaq Thompson and the rest of this Panthers roster rallying around him as they try to earn Wilks the full-time job in Charlotte. Following the Panthers most complete performance of the season, what are the odds that Wilks can keep things rolling and apply pressure on Panthers owner David Tepper to hire him?

Through seven weeks of the NFL season there's a lot of meh. Only four teams have separated themselves while the rest of the league appears to be mediocre. Julian Council looks at the Panthers remaining schedule to figure out the path to an NFC South title and a case where Tepper would have no choice but to keep Wilks as the head man.

Plus, Panthers make several roster moves on Tuesday.
