Locked On Panthers - Daily Podcast On The Carolina Panthers

Carolina Panthers interim head coach Steve Wilks addressed the media for the first time on Tuesday. Wilks laid out a plan of how and why he thinks the Panthers can turn their season around following a 1-4 start. Julian Council reacts to Wilks thoughts.

Panthers GM Scott Fitterer said when he was hired that he'd be "in on every deal". Well, has that turned out to be detrimental to the future of the organization as the Panthers are favorites to earn the No. 1 overall pick and currently only own the rights to four picks in the 2023 NFL Draft? Julian goes through Fitterer's history of trades to figure out whether the second-year GM has more hits than misses. Should Fitterer be on the hot seat?

Panthers owner David Tepper held a press conference to offer up an explanation as to why Matt Rhule is no longer in charge in Carolina. During that session, Tepper failed to offer up any specifics why Rhule is gone and was testy with the media while also insinuating that he brought music to Charlotte. Julian explains why Tepper's latest meeting with the media shows that he's the biggest problem in Carolina.

The Carolina Panthers announced on Monday that they officially have parted ways with head coach Matt Rhule following an 11-27 record through Rhule's two-plus seasons in Carolina. Julian Council discusses why this needed to happen and what things lead to Rhule's demise in Carolina.

While fans will celebrate Rhule's ouster, Julian believes that there are bigger problems in Carolina, particularly as it pertains to Panthers owner David Tepper. Can he get his next coaching hire right?

Charlotte native and Panthers secondary coach Steve Wilks will serve as the interim for the final 12 games of the season. Does Wilks have a realistic shot at his job or will the Panthers issues plague his tenure as well?

The Carolina Panthers did what they do best under head coach Matt Rhule, losing, 37-15, to the San Francisco 49ers in front of a partisan Niners crowd at Bank of America Stadium. Rhule falls to 11-27 overall and has lost 11 of his last 12 games as the Panthers coach. Julian Council finally admits that he's broken by the Rhule-era Panthers and that it's time for Panthers owner David Tepper to move on from Rhule.

The Panthers defense struggled on Sunday in large part because of the absences of Jeremy Chinn, Frankie Luvu, and Xavier Woods. Jaycee Horn was added to the injury list on Sunday after sustaining a hip injury. Is the Panthers defense the only thing holding this team from a total collapse?

When will David Tepper fire Matt Rhule? This is a question every Panthers fan is asking as the team has started the 2022 season at 1-3. Might a loss to the San Francisco 49ers, who boast the NFL's top-ranked defense, be the final straw? Julian Council answers that among other questions in another edition of the Weekly Friday Mailbag.

On this week's Wednesday Conversation, Julian Council is joined by Charlotte Observer Carolina Panthers beat reporter Mike Kaye to reflect on the Panthers 1-3 start. Mike and Julian discuss whether there's any benefit to firing Matt Rhule this early in the season, why Baker Mayfield has struggled through four weeks, what the disconnect has been for the Rhule-coached Panthers, and much more.

Carolina Panthers head coach Matt Rhule met with the media on Monday following yet another loss to try to make sense of the struggles of his offense, Baker Mayfield, and to respond to questions on his job status. For now, Rhule will remain in place as the head coach in Carolina but might he make a change at quarterback in one final effort to save his job?

According to Rhule and several national reports, while Sam Darnold is eligible to return from IR after suffering an ankle injury during the preseason, he still is "not close" to being ready to come back. In the meantime, Mayfield will remain the starter while posting numbers eerily similar to a former Panthers QB. Should Matt Rhule give PJ Walker another chance? When Darnold is healthy, should he take over for Mayfield?

Soon enough, if we're not already there, Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper will have no choice but to fire Rhule. So why is he waiting? What are the benefits of Tepper firing Rhule? What justification could he have to keep Rhule in place?

The Carolina Panthers offensive struggles carried over to another week as the team dropped to 1-3, losing, 26-16, to Arizona at home. Baker Mayfield's issues with accuracy, batted balls, and trust in the offense have held the team back through the first four weeks of the season. Julian Council says that it's already time to admit that the Panthers QB position is once again holding the franchise back and that they'll be back in the market for a QB, and a new head coach this offseason.

The doomsday clock for Matt Rhule is still ticking as Panthers fans call for his ouster. Julian explains what Rhule's downfall in Carolina will be (spoiler: QB play) and wonders if firing Rhule will place the pressure on general manager Scott Fitterer to turn around the organization.

What now? Mayfield hasn't shown that he's the answer but the Panthers can't afford to waste an excellent defense and a vastly improved special teams unit. Is it time to turn back to Sam Darnold when he's recovered from his ankle injury?

The Carolina Panthers host the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday afternoon at Bank of America Stadium for a battle between two 1-2 teams. Both offenses have struggled to get off to strong starts through the first three weeks of the season. Will the Panthers be able to buck that trend this week?

Julian Council answers that along with other listener questions on this week's edition of the Weekly Friday Mailbag.

The Carolina Panthers continue their three-game homestand as the Arizona Cardinals make the trip east. Both teams enter Sunday's matchup at 1-2, who will be able to move to 2-2 and avoid a potential season-crushing 1-3 start? Matt Rhule and Kliff Kingsbury faced off against each other in college before both heading to the NFL. Rhule leads the NFL series between the two at 2-0. Can Rhule continue to cool his hot season while potentially warming Kingsbury's?

Julian Council and Locked On Cardinals host Alex Clancy break down the top storylines, and key matchups, and provide their predictions for Sunday's NFC bout.
