Locked On Panthers - Daily Podcast On The Carolina Panthers

Questions surrounding the status of embattled Carolina Panthers head coach Matt Rhule continue as Michael McCarthy of Front Office Sports reported that the organization is "eyeing" former New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton. McCarthy said that the Panthers might be willing to wait a year while the former New Orleans Saints head coach recharges his batteries on TV. Should the Panthers target Payton? Would New Orleans be willing to trade him to a division foe? Is a potential first or second-round pick too much for Payton? Would Payton even be interested in Carolina?

The talk continues about the Panthers potentially adding a veteran QB. Matt Rhule reiterated that the Panthers would not say no to a veteran option at this time. Julian explains why the Panthers need to make a deal now as opposed to waiting to evaluate Sam Darnold and rookie QB Matt Corral if they're in fact interested in adding to the QB room.

Plus, Rhule and Panthers owner David Tepper have recently mentioned a five-year rebuild that was a part of Tepper's pitch to Rhule two years ago. Does Rhule truly have five years to turn around the Panthers? What kind of message does this send to the fan base?

After the Carolina Panthers failed to trade for Deshaun Watson and Baker Mayfield they opted to trade up in the 2022 NFL Draft for Matt Corral, likely ending the team's pursuit of a veteran quarterback. Since Corral was selected in the third round, the Panthers, including head coach Matt Rhule and general manager Scott Fitterer, have maintained that they would like to bring Corral along slowly and that Darnold is the team's starter. Can Darnold make the most of the opportunity given to him in 2022? What happens if Darnold finally reaches the potential of his third overall pick status?

The Panthers filled the need at left tackle by drafting NC State and Providence Day School alum Ikem "Ickey" Ekwonu sixth overall. The Panthers also might've solved the issue at quarterback by selecting Corral. Although, time will tell. What needs do the Panthers still have on the roster as the offseason program starts to ramp up? What free agents should or could they pursue?

If the Panthers do in fact plan to bring Corral on slowly then that would likely take him out of the battle to start Week 1. Despite boasting a 2-0 record as a starter, the Panthers have shown that they don't believe in P.J. Walker as being a strong option as a starter. Leaving no true competition on the roster to push Darnold. Should the Panthers still look to add a veteran quarterback?

Carolina Panthers rookie quarterback Matt Corral is already being dubbed the future of the franchise after being selected in the third round on Day 2 of the NFL Draft. While the fan base appears to be ready to move forward with Corral, head coach Matt Rhule has maintained that the team will bring Corral along slowly and that Sam Darnold is the team's starter. What should the expectation be for Corral heading into 2022?

Are the Panthers making the right decision by moving Corral along slowly as opposed to moving toward starting him in Week 1?

Matt Rhule is likely on the hot seat heading into the 2022 season but does drafting Corral buy Rhule another year? Is it better for Corral to have stability on the coaching staff or move on from Rhule if the Panthers don't show significant improvement in 2022?

While Sam Darnold is likely to be the full-time starter in 2022, how does Corral's presence impact the future of backup QB P.J. Walker? Can Darnold capitalize on his second chance in Carolina?
