Locked On Panthers - Daily Podcast On The Carolina Panthers

After striking out in the veteran quarterback market, the Carolina Panthers got back to basics by drafting their own. The Panthers traded up to the third round to select Matt Corral. How does drafting Corral impact Sam Darnold heading into 2022? Will Matt Corral become the team's starter by midseason?

The Panthers concluded the 2022 NFL draft on Saturday by filling needs at linebacker (Brandon Smith), edge rusher (Amare' Barno), guard (Cade Mays) and at corner (Kalon Barnes). How does Carolina's draft class stack up with the rest of the NFL? Did the Panthers get better this weekend?

Plus, the Panthers added 13 undrafted free agents including another local product in Elon quarterback Davis Cheek.

The pick is in! The Carolina Panthers have selected NC State offensive tackle Ikem 'Ickey' Ekwonu with the sixth overall pick in the NFL Draft. Have the Panthers finally solved their near-decade-long problem at left tackle? Should Ekwonu start Day 1 for the Panthers?

The Panthers opted not to trade back despite having all three of the top tackles on the board at six leaving the team without a Day 2 pick. Should the Panthers have traded back? Can Carolina get back into the second or third round? What could it possibly take for the Panthers to get into Day 2 of the draft?

The Panthers have been aggressive in fixing the offensive line this offseason but have yet to add to the quarterback room leaving Sam Darnold and P.J. Walker as the lone players at the position on the roster. Will the Panthers add to the quarterback room this weekend?

Reports from Ian Rapoport suggest that Scott Fitterer has quietly been targeting Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield. Is it an inevitability that Mayfield will be a Panther by Monday?

Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper finally came out of hiding on Wednesday afternoon as he addressed the local Charlotte media ahead of the NFL Draft on Thursday. Tepper preached patience while also backing embattled head coach Matt Rhule. Does Tepper's change in demeanor signal that he's taking a different approach to how the Panthers are built?

Tepper also addressed the Panthers quest for a franchise quarterback, where unprompted, he praised Sam Darnold for being a "very good quarterback". Is this another sign that Darnold will be the Week 1 starter for Carolina?

While addressing the state of the franchise, Tepper ducked questions about the pursuit of Deshaun Watson, the halting of the Rock Hill training facility/headquarters project, and the Charlotte FC training facility. Was Tepper wrong to not address these issues head on?

Do you believe that Tepper will actually follow through with the promises that he made several years back when he hired Matt Rhule?

Panthers GM Scott Fitterer, assistant GM Dan Morgan, director of college scouting Cole Spencer, and now Tepper have all spoken to the media of that. What does that say about Matt Rhule's standing within the organization if anything at all?

Julian Council starts off the show explaining why he's all in on the Carolina Panthers selecting a left tackle with the sixth overall pick. Should the Panthers also be all-in on finding a long-term pass protector on the left side?

Panthers general manager Scott Fitterer, assistant general manager Dan Morgan, and director of college scouting Cole Spencer all met with the local media on Tuesday ahead of the NFL Draft. The group spoke about the interest in trading back, adding a quarterback this weekend via the draft or the veteran, the top tackle prospects, and more.

One news item that came out of the media availability was Scott Fitterer once again stating the team's intention to exercise the fifth-year option on fourth-year Pro Bowl defensive end Brian Burns. Fitterer also stated that the team intends to work out a long-term deal for Burns. What could an extension look like for Burns?

NFL Draft week is finally upon us the 2022 NFL Draft is set to kick off this Thursday in Las Vegas. The speculation about what the Carolina Panthers will do with the sixth overall pick has been non-stop for months. Julian discusses what he thinks the Panthers should do and will do with the sixth pick if they do indeed stay at six.

NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported on Monday morning that the Panthers are not expected to trade for Browns QB Baker Mayfield prior to the first round of the NFL Draft if they do it at all. The team will let Thursday play out first before any other options are considered. Is this the smartest move for the Panthers? How likely is a trade for Mayfield on Friday if the Panthers bypass a quarterback on Day 1 of the draft?

Plus, CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora pointed out on Monday in his latest insider notes that included a mock draft that Panthers owner David Tepper loves Pitt quarterback Kenny Pickett. Julian explains why he's concerned that Tepper could pull a Dan Snyder come Thursday evening.

Trevor Sikkema, of Pro Football Focus, joined Julian Council to discuss the Carolina Panthers options with the sixth overall pick heading into next week's NFL Draft in Las Vegas. Julian and Trevor discussed how the five teams ahead of Carolina could impact the team's selection.

The guys talk about why they believe the Panthers will be selecting a quarterback at six and if that's the smart play.

Plus, Trevor provides his thoughts on Kenny Pickett and Malik Willis' fits for the Panthers, which of the top tackles he thinks the Panthers should select, and why he's not a fan of Carolina trading back from six.

Carolina Panthers offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo met with the local media for the first time on Tuesday afternoon. McAdoo discussed his offensive philosophy, and what attracted him to Carolina, among other things. McAdoo revealed that Sam Darnold is the Carolina Panthers quarterback only to correct himself a minute later. Did McAdoo reveal the organizations plan at quarterback a week before the draft or is there some missing context?

Defensive coordinator Phil Snow also chatted with the press. Snow discussed Jeremy Chinn staying at safety after new secondary coach Steve Wilks suggested that Chinn could be an All-Pro at the position, the plan to replace Haason Reddick's production at outside linebacker, and what positions the Panthers should target on the defensive side of the ball in the draft.

On Tuesday, David Tepper’s LLC released a statement after pausing construction on the team’s practice facility in Rock Hill, saying it has sent notices to the city of Rock Hill to formally terminate its previous agreements. Effectively ending the Panthers headquarters and training facility for the moment. Who is at fault? Is this yet another sign of dysfunction for the Tepper-owned Panthers?

Michael Gelhken of the Dallas Morning News reported on Monday evening that newly signed Panthers linebacker Dameon Wilson was arrested in Frisco, Texas last week on an assault charge after his ex-girlfriend said he threatened to kill her with a tire iron and destroyed her laptop after a breakup. Will Wilson ever play a snap for Carolina?

Underdog Fantasy's Hayden Winks joined Julian Council to take an in-depth look at 2022 NFL Draft quarterback prospects Kenny Pickett, Malik Willis, Desmond Ridder, and Matt Corral. Does Hayden believe any of these options could be the long-term answer for the Carolina Panthers at quarterback? Who is Hayden's top quarterback?

Plus, Julian and Hayden take a look at the top tackle prospects, trade back scenarios for Carolina, and if Sam Darnold (Hayden's fellow USC alumnus) can be saved.
