Happy Wednesday! The Penguins were back practicing and as always, there is lots to discuss. Hunter dives into a couple of expected roster cuts that were made on Wednesday before going into a couple of other player performances from Tuesday night. He first touches on Jeff Petry and why it wasn't the best debut for him. He looks at his struggles in the defensive zone, plus his $5K fine that he got from the NHL on Wednesday morning. Was it a play that he actually should've been fined for? After that, he goes a bit more positive with Radim Zohorna and why it feels like it's now or never for him at this point. The second segment then dives into some of the practice lines and how the Penguins are starting to split up the main roster from the WBS roster. Hunter looks at Josh Archibald and if it's right for him to clearly have a place in that group, even though some younger players have looked a bit better at camp (same with Zohorna in a way). He advocates for Drew O'Connor and Drake Caggiula to join that group since he likes their upside heading into the season. Finally, he breaks down the rest of the lines and how it's clear that Ty Smith is starting to become the favorite to win that No. 6 defenseman job. All that, plus much more, on this episode of Locked On Penguins.

Tuesday night wasn't a kind one to the Pittsburgh Penguins as they fell to the Detroit Red Wings, 6-2. Thankfully though, it was just a preseason game. Hunter is joined by Doug Glattke of Penguins Twitter and of ForecheckingTv as they break down the positives and negatives of the performance. They first start with Brock McGinn as he scored a gorgeous goal to open the scoring. How important is it that he has a bounce-back season this year? What plagued him down the stretch last year? They also discuss the performances of Jason Zucker and Bryan Rust as they both continued to look stellar. Following that, they get into some of the negatives, starting with the special teams. What are the biggest issues with the power play right now? What needs to change so that it's more consistent this season? They then ask the same questions about the PK before touching on the D. They both loved Ty Smith's performance but are concerned about where Brian Dumoulin is right now. Could they have to trade for his replacement during the season if his play doesn't improve? All that, plus much more on this episode of Locked On Penguins.

Penguins hockey is back, baby (even though it's only preseason). Hunter starts the show off by recapping the team's first preseason game and who stood out the most to him. He looks at Jason Zucker's goal and how he was able to pull that off, while also hoping that the team gets more of that during the regular season. He also assesses Drew O'Connor's performance, as well as Sam Poulin's. Has Poulin been more noticeable as of late? What does that mean for his chances of making the team? How was Ty Smith in his Penguins debut? He also assesses him and then looks at how Casey DeSmith played in his first game since he got hurt in the playoffs. Following that, he recaps the second preseason game, and yeah, it went the way everyone expected. Was Danton Heinen the best player on the ice? How was Ryan Poehling's debut? Does Josh Archibald need to do a bit more to secure his spot on the team? He then breaks some news about a couple of roster cuts before giving his thoughts on the players that will be playing on Tuesday against the Detroit Red Wings. All that, plus much more on this episode of Locked On Penguins.

We're 2 days into training camp and it's been great to have hockey back. Hunter starts the show with some quick thoughts on who has gotten off to a good start at camp, especially in the scrimmages. He goes into Jason Zucker and how he looks rejuvenated out there, plus how Drake Caggiula is making the most when he's played with Evgeni Malkin & Bryan Rust. He also looks at how it's likely that Rust starts the year with Malkin and Rakell starts with Crosby. Would that be the right move? Hunter looks at the data supporting both to see, while also looking at other combinations that the Penguins have used so far. After that, he dives into Ron Hextall's comments and how the Penguins could still make a trade over the next few weeks. while also giving an interesting comment on POJ. Finally, Hunter ends the show with some thoughts on the two preseason games ahead and a few other players who have stood out thus far.

Happy Wednesday! Training camp is right on the horizon and Hunter starts the show by discussing what he's most looking forward to seeing at camp. Does he want to see how the new guys perform? What about that 12th-forward spot competition? Do any goaltenders need to have good camps? Does it matter if Kasperi Kapanen has a good camp after what happened last season? Those are some of the questions that Hunter potentially answers in this segment before getting to the BOLD prediction segment. He gives five bold predictions for the 2022-2023 Pittsburgh Penguins and yes, some of them may make you spit your water out or have you fall out of your chair. Finally, Hunter reacts to the Locked On NHL Coaching power rankings and whether Mike Sullivan is in the right spot. He also tells the listeners who he voted for before finishing with why it's unlikely Sullivan will again get any consideration for the award, even though he should probably be a finalist for it each season.

Happy Tuesday! Hunter's voice is still a bit groggy but hey, it's a process. He starts the show by going into the Penguins training camp schedule for the next couple of weeks and when you can watch them at the UPMC Complex. Hunter gives the schedule for the first day of camp on Thursday and then does so for the next week before going into when training camp ends. He also touches on how a lot of the top players will be split into different "teams" to make it competitive, especially in the scrimmages. After that, he goes into the lines that we saw for a scrimmage between some of the Penguins regulars on Tuesday (and yes, we are reading into it just a little :). He looks at some lines that you'll likely see this season while looking at some others that could be used that have some potential. Finally, Hunter ends the show by discussing the three players that retired from the league on Tuesday.

Hunter is finally back...again. He's still recovering from COVID-19 but is definitely feeling good enough to churn out content again. He starts the show by going into the Penguins prospects challenge game from Sunday (yes, that happened for those watching the Steelers). He looks at who stood out the most in the Penguins' 6-4 win and if those players can carry that over into camp. He also looks at how Filip Lindberg played in his first game action since getting hurt about 10 months ago. After that, he gets into Rob Rossi's story on the RoboPenguin and thanks him for confirming the scoop (only a little :-), excellent reporting Rob!) He looks at what the jersey could look like and how many games the Penguins could wear it for this season before thinking about if the team will bring an original one back after this one is done. Finally, Hunter breaks down the Sonny Milano to Calgary news and wishes that the Penguins would've done that since it was basically free (until they have to move out space). All that, plus much more on this episode of Locked On Penguins!

Training camp is officially a week away! The season is a month away! This offseason has flown by, and Hunter starts the episode by going into Evan Rodrigues and why he's expected to be a great fit with the Colorado Avalanche. He looks at what he will bring to their lineup and why a select number of Penguins fans will miss him more than they think. Following that, he looks at the battles that could take place during camp and why there's not as much intrigue compared tto the last couple of years. Finally, he looks at how some pundits will pick the Penguins to miss the playoffs and how that's just folly.

Yes, Hunter is on vacation but the content NEVER sleeps. He starts the episode off by touching on the Penguins training camp roster and if there were any surprises that came from it. He also gets into a quick rumor on Evan Rodrigues from Elliotte Friedman before moving to some Jason Zucker talk. He touches on Dave Molinari's report and how the Penguins almost pulled the trigger on a deal for Zucker but decided against it. What did the agreement look like? Was it wise for the Penguins to keep him? Is he in line for a big year? He also touches on how it would hurt the depth if he left since the next winger on the depth chart would be...Danton Heinen. Finally, he goes over the Penguins' national TV schedule for this upcoming season and why it's great for the league that they'll be televised more.

Hello there and Happy Tuesday! We are back to regularly scheduled programming this week as Hunter is feeling A LOT better with mental health and stuff. He starts the show going into the latest on Brian Burke's comments to Dave Molinari and whether or not the team will make another move this offseason. He also looks at what Burke said about if the unit is better this season, plus how teams continue to call the Penguins about their defensemen. Following that, he goes into how the Penguins are still looking at Evan Rodrigues and how they need to clear space to sign him. He also touches on if it would be the right call to bring him back, especially since the forward group would be basically the same as it was last year. Finally, he ends the show with some Ty Smith talk and why he's going to surprise a lot of people this season.
